The Magna Carta was issued in June 1215 put into writing the principle that the king and his government was not above the law. It sought to prevent the king from exploiting his power, and placed limits of royal authority by establishing law as a power in itself. The only leader above the law is a dictator.

Alito then insinuates that AGs, special investigators, federal prosecutors, grand juries, judges, selected jurors, appellate judges (including the highest of those: the SCOTUS justices themselves) are all mostly corrupt and would accept political persecution. That he thinks the whole justice system is flawed. Is this because he thinks he might engage in such things himself? Further, if the POTUS is immune, he doesn’t need to misuse the DOJ to persecute the FPOTUS, but can use SEAL Team 6.

Just to be clear, any Trump appointee on this court should absolutely recuse themselves. To sit in judgement of the very person who appointed you is the definition of conflict of interests.

ALL court cases involving POTUS or his sitting cabinet have to go through very special procedures. Look at what the house did against Homeland Sec. House voted to impeach. Senate shut it down. Nothing happens. We have a clear line in the constitution to deal with people that step out of line in office. Has been in place for over 200 years.

Again, I have to say that Allito seems to have no confidence in the judicial system by his hypothetical…being criminally prosecuted is not possible without a crime. Am I the only one hearing this? We watched the whole process these past 2 years. Prosecutors must provide evidence OF A CRIME to a grand jury, who must recommend indictment OF A CRIME. No crime, no possibility of prosecution. So all future Presidents need not fear prosecution, and therefore seek to stay in office by NOT COMMITTING CRIMES. Right?!?

No they didn’t. Biden just didn’t have the balls to push for it the last four years. Hopefully he sees the danger of this runaway Court now. It is absolutely within the power of the political branches to set the size of SCOTUS, and to limit its jurisdiction over the types of cases not enumerated to it in Article III.

This is a very fair and important question. I wish that there was something that could be done, but I just don’t know what can be done at this point. we can try to add justices to the bench which should be done, but at this point it’s going to look like politically motivated balancing which I guess it would be. It’s a scary situation that we’re in as a country, anyone who has had a malignant narcissist close to them in their lives, knows the damage and destruction that that kind of human being will wreak on everyone and everything around them. This time it’s on a national scale and it’s absolutely terrifying.

What justice alito postulates only applies, up to this point in history, former president trump. No other president would have entertained the idea of seeking revenge on his or her political rival. No other president would have entertained the idea of going after his or her critics in the press or media. To call his musings facetious and disingenuous would be a massive understatement.

Frightening alarming times we live in. Yes bonkers. No discussing the facts of the case but hypotheticals instead. 4 justices isn't enough.

Why can’t Biden take out Trump then using “President immunity”

And the third thing that Alito ignored was that the judiciary is SUPPOSED to be ruled by LAW and would not agree to prosecuting a president if he had not broken the law. They can't argue that if a president made an unlawful order to the military, then the military would be obliged to disobey while also arguing that the judiciary would obey a president who was acting out of vindictiveness.

My question is, "Does Trump, or is Trump having any communication with these Justices presently?"

The lesson is don't let a criminal appoint the judges.

No one should be exempt from prosecution when they are involved in money laundering, influence peddling, insider trading, or any number of crimes not in the duties as a President, Vice President, Senator, Representative, or any member of the Legal profession such as Attorney General, Judge or Lawyer.

It's shocking that some justices' remarks are pointedly making their arguments about "generics", unwilling to directly address the details of the current case. Hypotheticals have their place; but at some point, for the sake of clarity for the American people, the actual facts before them, from this case, specifically, need to be addressed.

It shouldn’t matter which side of politics you reside on. The fact that even one justice is contemplating that a president is completely immune to prosecution, forever and no matter the crime, should frighten anyone who loves democracy

We aren't a democracy. I'd say using the DoJ to try and persecute your political rivals is much worse than anything Trump ever did.

The amicus brief needs to be amended to include this: Pose a more extreme version of the SEAL Team 6 hypothetical to SCOTUS we heard in the Court of Appeals, where a judge asked if Trump's theory would absolve him if he used the military to take out political opponents. Take it a step further and tell the Court that if Trump has the immunity he claims he does, a president would be free to order the assassination of Supreme Court Justices who disagree with him, and could not be prosecuted for doing that. Make the impact of Trump's argument unmistakable. Let the examples of conduct that would be permissible under Trump's view of immunity drive home how essential it is for the Court to reject his appeal and send this case back on its way to trial. As a Canadian watching this unfold, this group of corrupt justices in black robes remind me of an evil Council in a Star Wars movie.

If the NY case of election interference is the only trial before the election, the jurors and the judge have to make an important decision whether they stand for democracy or not.

The back and forth at the Supreme Court was useless chatter in relation to what the real issue was supposed to be before the court.
