We have a St. Bernard mix who has saved around six lives by his blood donations. ❤ His Mom works in a vet clinic, and grabs him if they run short on blood.

Veterinary practices generally keep a blood donor cat and/or dog for transfusion needs.

I can see why shes a great therapy dog, hugging all of her fluff must feel wonderful.

To be fair she is a female St bernard so she will naturally be smaller than the male but yes she does look to be a healthy size. People don't realize when a big dog is too fat and think it's normal. Too common of a problem honestly.

I've had 11 St. Bernards. Great dogs! They did do rescue work in the St. Bernard Pass in Switzerland. The dogs travelled the pass in pairs. If they found an injured person, one dog would lie down on top of the injured person to keep them warm and the other dog would go back to the Monastery and alert the rescue team.

I m French, when I was a kid, the St Bernard was always showed with a little barrel around the neck, and in the snow/avalanche, always the rescue dog 😊❤

She has to be the best behaved dog on this channel yet. All Huskies should be required to watch this video to learn proper grooming behavior. Bella truly IS 'BELLA'.

Must be because she doesnt have nearly as much loose, droopy skin on her jowls as most "modern" st Bernards. Which makes sense because you wouldnt want an animal that rescues people in subzero temperatures to be trailing drool all the time.

Bella and her dad Henry are the BEST! They spread sunshine and happiness everywhere! I'm so grateful to know them. ❤️🇨🇦

Visiting the hospice and museum at the St. Bernard Pass between Switzerland and Italy was the best. They had kennels full of puppies and big dogs whose heads were wider than my hand stretched out between the ears. Amazing animals. They had an adoption program but gave big warnings that these were not the dog for small apartments.

Not only is she beautiful but she's sweet too. What a good doggo!

Our German Shepherd used to be a blood donor, too! It’s been nearly ten years since we said goodbye to her, and we still miss her 😢.

When our Great Dane was alive, she served as a blood donor dog (along with several other dogs) for our vet clinic. I recommend this highly if you have a dog that may be a candidate! I'll never forget the time when our vet needed blood for a very sick dog and she was out, so they called us. Luckily, we were able to take our Dane up and she gave blood which was used to save the life of the other dog. The owners of the other dog were so thankful to us and just thanked us profusely and sent us a wonderful picture of their beloved pet whose life our Dane had saved. And it's not so bad for the donor dogs--yes, they get blood taken, but the vet staff spends a lot of time "making over" them, petting them, talking to them, telling them how wonderful they are, and giving them yummy treats.

Cookies and orange juice were the treats after blood donations for me. I used to donate regularly until I was diagnosed with MS, and the meds I’m on keep me from any further donations. 🩸 I don’t imagine that dogs would have been given orange juice!

My working interview at a Veterinary ER was assisting in holding a dog while he donated blood. Firstly they're put on some heavy drugs before they start drawing the blood, and I swear as he was coming off of them, this Golden was having a great time bc there were at least two people holding/petting him the whole time. (He was a regular donor tho, so it's a familiar enough procedure for him.)

I really like the new editing 😊 Bella truly is a hero with four paws 🐾 St. Bernards are the dogs of my childhood. In Bavaria most of the farms I was roaming had at least one. And all of them were incredibly nice, patient and cuddly with us kids 😊

What a fantastic animal! She is very well-bred, not overly corpulent or with extremely droopy eyes and jowls, beautiful coat, wonderful temperament. A perfect angel if ever there was one!

Many people don't teach "shake/paw" to big dogs so that, as they are big, don't randomly slap you with a ton of weight! I'm not surprised if she was not taught to give paw given she's around kids and such. Anyway, she's incredibly beautiful and not too drooly which is nice to see!

My border terrier needed a blood transfusion in 2022 as she had immune mediated anaemia. We, as a family, are so grateful to the beautiful dogs who donate blood because she would not be here now without them (and their thoughtful owners). Regretfully, it was never something I had ever even thought about until then and if we ever get another dog it will definitely be something we will think of doing in the future. Thank you Bella! ❤❤

I have an 8 year old St. Bernard named Clark. He's amazing and I always thought he would make a good therapy dog. He sure is good therapy for me! I am certain you would have had the furnado of all furnados blowing him dry! He sheds more than any dog I've ever seen 365 days year!

I'd love to see good doggos like Bella in as court dogs (basically, therapy dogs for traumatised victims or witnesses who have to testify in court, dogs like Bella go and help/sit by them and help them give evidence or testimony). Bella is absolutely pawesome.

Love to see a donor dog! Since I’m EXTREMELY phobic of animals (in person only), to the extent of stress induced seizures and losing control of my body, and constantly in and out of longterm IP between placements, the therapy dog side personally just makes me too distressed and nauseous to think about-but it’s still wonderful for people who enjoy that and agree to have one visit them. More than anything I would love to hear you talk more about animal blood donation in the future though, because I’ve talked to a lot of people who didn’t even know that was a possibility , and I think a large platform like this is an amazing place to bring some attention to the whys & hows to get more people on board. Bella looked like an angel to work with and I hope she comes back to the channel someday!
