Nothing is more heart-wrenching than seeing a senior dog end up in a shelter, facing low adoption chances and a high risk of euthanasia. Happy's Place- Retirement Home for Dogs steps in to rescue senior dogs from these situations, providing them with a new lease on life. These dogs are either cared for at Happy’s as a retirement sanctuary or, if healthy enough, they are put up for adoption. Senior dogs often come with high medical expenses, particularly for dental care, and Happy’s covers all these veterinary costs. To support Happy’s cause, I am organizing a fundraiser this summer. As a volunteer for a rescue, my speciality was senior dogs and momma dogs at adoption events. Puppies are easy with their cute little faces but the momma dogs and seniors were a much tougher 'sell'. My greatest success, and the dog I still miss, was Rok, a GSD/mastiff mix that was massive, terrified of pit bulls, barked constantly when afraid, and didn't have a tooth in his head. He was a mess, but I spent almost a year's worth of events with him. I cried when he was adopted and was so thankful for the quiet little boy that fell in love with him and wouldn't even look at the puppies his parents tried to get. @snakey319 You are on the right track! 👍 "Dauphine" means the wife of the Dauphin. The Dauphin was the word used to describe the next in line to the French throne. (The UK does not use the terms dauphin and dauphine, but their dauphin equivalent would be Prince William, and their dauphine equivalent would be Princess Catherine). The French followed the law of male primogenature, so unfortunately, women were not allowed to become the monarch in France - they were always skipped over. The king's firstborn son was next to inherit the throne. If that son died, then the throne would pass to the second born son, and so on. If the King had no sons/heirs, then the nearest male relative to the king was the heir to the throne. 🙂

I'm kinda a jerk here. Based on the "Owner cries" I was hoping for a lil more glow up between before and after. Obviously a ton of work went in here and I'm glad puppy dog wasn't in a terrible neglected shape. I was expecting more based on the title but I'm used to dealing with a shih tzu going from long locks to a buzz cut lion mane with tufted tail tip. Totes right though. pro model doggo!

What a credit she is to her owners, She has a beautiful temperament.

Seniors make my heart sigh. You can almost watch them slowing like a watch that needs winding but they are still so full of love and trust.

A friend of mine had a Great Pyrenees puppy when I visited him, and a 19-year-old cat born before his first Great Pyrenees, that survived it and its successor, and was stealing puppy food from his third. It’s sad that they’re not too long-lived.

My first died at 14 years and 2 months. My second at 12 and 8 months, my third at 13 years and 4 months and my fourth will be 10 in June. She's still very energetic and goes for walks of between 6 and 10 km every day. It's not that rare, or maybe it's due to the fresh French air.

the owner and the dog are two peas in a pod. Aging, dignified, a bit of fat in all the wrong places, but full of love. They were made for each other, lol. Both aging very gracefully and kindness has a beauty all its own.

I LOVE THIS DOG'S FACE OMG. I don't know why, her little default face is so funny and cute. She just stands there the whole time without making a fuss (while producing a river of drool). So cute!

leaving your treats unattended wasnt the dogs fault, she just took extra for being "a good girl"😁

Great pys are absolute warriors. Just last year there was the story of one named Casper who took out 11 coyotes, disappeared for a couple days, reappeared missing bits of his tail and cut up all over, but dead coyotes were found all over his mountainside. Casper had fought a one dog war against an entire pack and possibly tracked them back to their den. And, with a bit of veterinary assistance, lived to tell the tale and wear his scars with pride.

It was fascinating watching the change in her facial expression. When she first got in the shower, she looked genuinely afraid, and I think she was drooling a little extra because of the fear. But as the bath progressed, and she saw that this wasn't so bad, maybe even felt good, you saw her relax and her expression become a lot more neutral. By the time she was being blow dried, she didn't look afraid at all, just relaxed. Seeing her rise from fear to mild interest was heartwarming. She was actually smiling by the time you got to the nail trimming🙂

Dauphine was in need of protein to make it through the rest of her spa appointment. What a sweet natured soul she is.

The Owner's reactions made me so happy, what a loving lady with a lovely dog!!

She ate all the treats because she knew she was being a good girl. Great job, Vanessa! Dauphine is lovely.

She's an * amazingly * good girl, so calm and obedient and it's her first professional treatment!

She deserved that entire pile of treats. What a good girl! She was much more patient than I expected for a first-time groom, her owners did a good job raising a sweet girl!

Sweet soul and now she looks as fluffy and gentle as you'd imagine.

I love senior dogs. I have no problems adopting one. They are so mellow. If dogs have one fault--dogs break our hearts when they cross the rainbow bridge.

I kinda loved working on the big, hairy dogs. It was sooooooo much work , especially when they were deep into shed and the fur was flying. But at the end of the day, when you're covered in fur and your arms feel like theyre about to fall off, you look at the majestic beast you uncovered from the mud and mats and it was totally worth the struggle. I love when the dog KNOWS they look good and they feel good and then they get tons of love and compliments from their owner.

She did look a little uncertain at first but by the end of the groom she looked more comfortable. It's pretty hilarious that she stole all the treats. Sounds like something my doggo would do!

I'm glad that you explained about how trimming the fur from in between their pads gives them better traction. I wouldn't have thought of that.

The older owner and the dog are soul sisters. They match each other perfectly. both a little long in the tooth with some fat deposits in odd places but sweet and with a strong loving energy.

You can tell that Ms Delphine is a much loved pup..and she absolutely deserved a pile of treats ❤️❤️

Watching this video brought back pleasant memories! I once rescued a Great Pyrenees who was covered in sheep shit and mats. I had to cut the mats out, since no amount of brushing was going to clear them. When his coat grew back, he was as beautiful as Dauphine!

I always laugh when you put the happy hoodie on them as their faces get smushed in. This dog was lovely.

We rescued a 5.5 year old Golden Pyrenees from the shelter and renamed her "Dolly" and she is really a DOLL. Her previous name was Blanche and while that's a lovely name it's also my deceased grandmother's name so we had to make a change.

What a beautiful and healthy looking dog. No mobility issues by the looks of it, can stand, fantastic! Props to the owners.
