Keep the videos coming Dr Scott! Loving that you have moved from Bondi Vet to embark on your own journey and have your own channel now! 🎉 PS I love that you don't just focus on one type of pet, eg dogs only. Thank you for giving cats some air time as well as dogs and hopefully an array of other animals to come!

Your first video appeared on my KZread. Subscribed. Always watch This Morning . Enjoy when you are on. I'm the owner of 3 cats, 17yrs, 10yrs and 9yrs. I'm very strict with food, only feed them cat food, dry and pouches, cat treats. So thankful no health issues. They receive their annual vaccinations. So tragic watching the cats who would adore a loving home, to be centre of attention, just to be loved on. One of mine is almost permantly on my lap 😊. Let's hope your videos educate cat owners regarding fleas. Applying flea treatment to back of their necks, my female, not so keen, amazing how treats divert their attention 😊. Neutering so important too as i'm amazed how many people think their pet should have a litter first. Owning a pet is expensive is expensive , especially vet fees but it's we, the owners who are responsible to keep them as healthy as we can😊 keep up the amazing work you do Dr Scott. Hope your channel goes from strength to strength😊

I promised my mom when she died in 2014 I would take care of the feral cats she was feeding. They are now 22 years old and still thriving. I hope they live much longer because I will greatly miss them. They force me to get up every morning to feed them. I have a shed out back I have made cozy for winter and summer where I keep food and water for them. They stay in my yard. They don’t wander out of it and it is fully fenced to protect from other animals. I had no idea cats live this long. I have also fed several cats on the street whose elderly owners passed away. They come and hang out in the shed with the other cats. One of the other property owners adopted the elderly cat left there when her owner died. Cats have a difficult life.

I take care of feral cats and they do not live that long typically. 2 to 3 years is an average life sometimes 4. They're living longer because of the care that you're giving them and that your mother gave them obviously. They are probably not considered feral anymore and are probably just semi socialized outdoor cats.

Thank you from all of us❤😊Many, like me, can't physically help because of illness and age. I decided to leave my house to the local no-k!ll cat shelter... it's the least I can do since cats were always the best part of my life 💫💞 (Edit to add: I forgot to mention, we had one kitty that lived to be 24 years old. We had him from a day old. His mom gave birth in the factory where my dad worked, but unfortunately it was in the city and she'd gotten hit by a car. We fed him formula from the vet until he could eat normal food. Anyway, yes, cats can kive along time!❤)

Thank you for supporting older cats. I really love puppies and kittens for about five minutes but they just grow and blossom as they get older. @@pattibooth5797 I understand as I have mobility issues myself. I have 9 cats, ages ranging from 19 to 4. What I have that really helps (my cats are indoor cats only) is the Litter Robot 3. Really takes the hard work out of keeping litter boxes clean and our cats love it and our other automatic litter box which is a PuraMax. They are expensive but they do save on litter long term as you don't waste clean litter. It is always heartbreaking when we lose one of our beloved fur family but as my adult son says "Look to the living". All except one of my cats are rescues so when I lose one I know I gave them the best life I could possibly give. My oldest cat lived to 23, second oldest 22 - we lost him 2 years ago. Our current oldest is 19 and we lost his brother to old age and illness last year. He too is going downhill, sleeping longer and longer but still enjoying his food, being petted and purring. Please reconsider. There are so many cats being overlooked in rescues and shelters that need someone like you to love and care for them. It is also a scientific fact that people with cats live longer because cats have a relaxing effect on us not to mention their purrs are healing.

They are both on medication , my brand new house smells of pee , I smell of pee BUT these two guys are so loving , demanding and they have never left my side. My life will be so empty without these beautifull little cats. Thanks Dr Scott for looking after these beaufiful animals.

Get multiple cat litter boxes and since they are older check out lower litter boxes with one high side which makes it easy for them to get into and one high side so if they pee high it won’t spray outside the box. Rule of thumb is for every 2 cats they need 4 litter boxes. So if three cats they should have 6 boxes. Now that is a lot haha and most don’t have the space for that but if you have two cats and a big house since it’s new I would keep a littler box in any room they enter frequently. If they are peeing a lot make sure to rule out health issues too

Our cat is now 20…she came to us from a feral litter. Walked into the garden and plopped next to me. She was maybe 7-8 weeks old. She’s a bit slower and a little stiff but otherwise continues to rule the house. To get rid of her because she’s old is beyond my understanding…I’d only rehome her if we were unable to care for her. . We only do so with our animals if they are suffering and can be helped. I love black and white cats…tuxedos are very interesting cats. When Sammy passes on I will look for a tuxedo to rescue. What an amazing place!

I found them in a shopping mall in a cart one cold night when they were tiny, was going to turn them over to Paws but didn't, may have been a mistake. But fell in love with them. 2 of them are white with a couple of black dots the other one black and white. The thought of them being stuck in small cages is terrifying. I have a long haired black and white tuxedo cat that will turn 12 later this year. When I was living in Ft Worth, TX doing chemo for my second brain tumor I decided I needed a third cat. I looked at shelter website and planned on going to get a 4 year female calico cat. When I walked in though all the cats and kittens were sleeping, several in their litter boxes except for Gus. He was trying to climb his tiny little kitten self out of the cage meowing loudly the entire time. I thought to myself, he obviously wants to come home with me. He has been such a great cat and he’s so beautiful. I wish we had a place like this where I live now but I live in a tiny little town in west Texas. If we did, I would volunteer every single day. If I were to win the lotto I have always said I would build a cat sanctuary. When people call me a crazy cat lady I’m like, that’s not an insult. Right now it’s even true since Gus is the only cat I have:

Honestly, it's still all rooted in superstition about witchcraft and devil worship. So it's mostly the fault of the Church. It also has to do with medieval superstition that the colour black has to do with death. So that is a mostly Western thing and spread through Colonisation. After all, in China it means prosperity and good health, while in many parts of Africa it stands for masculinity, maturity, and age. In India, black is the colour that protects against evil, and in many parts of Eastern Asia it stands for experience (thus, the highest rank of belt is the black belt in martial arts). Heck, in Ancient Egypt, white meant death, while black was the colour of life and protection from evil! So it is all culture based and unfortunately, there are still highly uninformed people that thusly harm innocent animals :(

Running a retirement village for senior and special needs cats is my dream job. I myself took in a neglected long hair senior 5 years ago. She had a bad infection and ulcers in her mouth that prevented her from eating solid food. Underweight, covered in matts and entire chunks of fur missing. She had survived on the streets for roughly 6 years after her awful family decided they didn't want to deal with her anymore. The vet gave her a 50% chance, but she pulled through and after just a week of treatment she started bringing me mice regularly. She is at least 16 y/o now, still active and playful, healthy as can be, and will plop down on my lap or be my little spoon every day. Best cat anyone could ask for. ❤ Also have a 10 y/o one-eyed tuxedo boy I adopted from a shelter as a kitten. Neediest brat I ever knew.

I was a first time cat owner at 20 years old. I decided my cat needed a bath/shower. I had glass doors on my shower so I took off my clothes and took my beautiful Persian cat into the shower with me. I set him down on the floor of the shower and turned on the water. Much to my surprise and pain he climbed up the front of ME to sit on my shoulder. You should have seen the scratches on my torso. A lesson learned for sure!

That retirement village is simply brilliant thinking! The sheds as little homes do not only provide the cats with homely surroundings, but it also gives them an ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ to experience, most importantly the cats are not forced to be in each other’s face if they don’t like each other, but can retreat to elsewhere in the village, what a wonderful idea! A big improvement upon caged settings in a lot of shelters. P.s. now i secretly want a retirement village in my backyard!

This cat center is doing Gods Work. Thank you for giving to these sweet babies a second chance, the quality of life and the much needed love in their final days. I have had three Gingers give back all the love my family gave them in their last years. We gave them the best quality of life as versus quantity of life. I could never forget the unconditional love they gave, the first family cat taught me how to have unconditional love no matter what ny sibling and I put him through, had the patience of a saint and knew how much we loved him in our own weird way. I paid that forward with the second and the third, the third passing first and the second about 8 months after. The second came from an abusive home, rescued and was a few hours from euthanasia, adopted him and we just loved on him for 10 years, heaped it upon him as he healed from the trauma and ptsd that impacted the first two years of his life. He loved us back ten fold. The third was hard to not love, he was a dork in all sense of the word, never knew the meaning of the word quit and too cute to boot, ten sweet years with this quirky and adorable baby. I will continue on with my Tortie and Gray Tabby, give them lots if love, the best quality of life and see that love returned 100 fold.

When I was in my early teens we adopted a kitten who was found in a plastic bag with his dead mother and siblings. Named him Gizmoe and he was the family cat for a long time until I was in my late teens and suddenly I saw a change in him. He would always sleep at my room, bed and always go where I go, lay on my belly and sometimes get defensive over me. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at the age of 19 where it made sense, cause it has been spreading for a few years without us knowing, well I believe Gizmoe knew cause thats when he started becoming "mine". He started his long rest in October last year and became 17 years old despite his health issues. He was my bestfriend and best anti depressant buddy and I miss him everyday.

Oof, those 4-5 year-olds who were given up with health issues really got to me. I recently had to say my final farewells to my old cat Blitz. She was 14 at the time. She'd walked into my mum's pub 10 years before, emaciated and tiny with a badly healed, crippled leg. They thought she was a lost kitten, but a vet examination revealed that she was 4 years old and had an owner on record. That owner confessed they'd rehomed her a year ago due to an allergic newborn and when they looked into the people who allegedly agreed to take her in, they denied ever having had a cat. The scum had just abandoned her. My family were asked to help find her a good home. Thankfully, my other cat was willing to tolerate her, which is a big deal because my other cat HATES cats normally so obviously I adopted her. They became respectful room-mates and had no fights but were never friends. She was a runt, about 3/4ths of the size of a regular housecat. She loved to cuddle and be held. She had PTSD from what I assume was people who hit or kicked her and was too scared to jump due to the bad leg so needed little ramps to climb everywhere. Eventually, she went completely deaf, so I had to learn to deal with a deaf cat who was scared of certain movements. She was content being an indoors cat and even let me play with her sometimes so long as I was careful to avoid certain movements. Ofcourse, her rough life came with many chronic health issues, as well as a heart condition diagnosed when she was older that required daily medication. Eventually, those conditions worsened to a point of no return. I chose to let her go instead of extending her suffering by making her go through intensive procedures that had little chance of improving her quality of life. She passed away peacefully in my arms where she loved to snuggle most, at home, surrounded by the humans she adored and one reluctant grumpy cat roomie who mourned for her for months after. Sorry for the rant.

How wonderful! What a lovely rescue! Johnny walks so well on a leash! Our oldest cat is 15 and he is the loveliest old man. He was left behind when one of the neighbors moved out. He charmed my youngest daughter, and he moved in with us, we have had him for over 10 years. I hope for another 10 with him! Our two youngest cats were dumped on our property during a cold snap/blizzard and the local shelters weren't taking any more animals in, so now.. they live with us. Had their vet checks, got fixed and vaccinations done. There were only 4 months old when dumped so the owners couldn't have had them long. They are both so sweet and great fun.

@@lifesabitch8012 yeah, I don't get it when people get a pet (or two) and then decide that they don't want them after a few months. Rehome them! a couple of kittens are not going to "make it" on their own outside. Well, one of the two might have, he is a great mouser, the other not so much.

I adopt only seniors-cats and dogs. Two years ago, I lost 4 animals (3 cats at 18, 20, 22 y.o.- and 1 dog). This nearly killed me, but I still adopt those that need a soft place to land until they go. Presently, I have 2 cats (11 and 13 years old) and 1 dog (13 y.o.). Btw, I run a small cat rescue.

What a fantastic place 😊. I love the set up of the retirement village - so innovative and thoughtful of their needs 👏🏻🫶🏻. Johnny is absolutely gorgeous and lovely with his quirky ways 🐈❤️. Walking him on a harness is a lovely idea Allows him freedom to explore outdoors but keeps him safe at the same time 👍🏻💓. So sad that some of the cats were in such a poor state due to neglect and not doing the most simple thing of using a flea treatment 😢🤷🏼‍♀️. The staff at the centre seem to be going a fabulous job and really making sure all the cats individual needs are met ❤
