One piece(its manga) is the second most selling comics of all time with 520+ Million copies sold recently surpassing Spiderman,Harry Potter and Batman and only behind superman(It will surpass in 5-6 years most likely). It starts light hearted but later turns into really dark talking about war, racism,slavery, corrupt government, Cannibalism, family abuse and so much more. It is one of the best story of all time and for me it's best.

I kinda wanna add to this, in that when One Piece "goes dark", It's a little bit different from the stereotypical way you might think from superheroes and other manga, like Batman->Dark Knight, or Dragonball- DBZ. Instead, it's more that the story and the characters stay the same, and even the context is similar, but the lighthearted stuff that came before gets re-contextualized by information you find out later. One Piece doesn't shy away from using death, serious injuries, corruption and slavery as plot-points from the start, but early on we're given very personal and generic examples of those things, that are later expanded into being core parts of the worldbuilding and greater themes, giving them the serious consideration and understanding they deserve, while still contrasting them against the light toned-antics of the main characters. In short, the story doesn't lose it's optimism or it's early draws of adventure and discovery, but contrasts them against a world that is more and more hostile against those things, the further the Strawhats travel.

I always say in the comments when people react to one piece openings: after you watch all the episodes and rewatch the openings...it really hits different. It makes you appreciate everything that the characters went through. You end up not having a favorite opening after that😂

the original is obviously better. the 7th op only appeared on 2 filler episodes where the artstyle was chibi and the episodes were complete nonsense(but fun) I think the voice actors just had fun with it. if you don't know what chibi is search it up.

"zorro" is actually called Dracule Mihawk, Zoro is the 3 sword guy, opening 13 is kinda the fan favourite cause of that arc and the meaning behind it, and a fun fact one piece has 1050+ episodes and 1070+ manga chapters and over 800 named characters and not a single one of them wears a eye patch like a stereotypical pirate would.

Not all of the people in the intros are villians most are neutral or 5 minute friends. Also it’s hard to say who is a villain or not because there’s no good and bad side or all good or bad people. Like the main characters are pirates and are generally known as bad people but the main characters are anything but that

Once you start, you'll get hooked-on! Do not let the number of episodes keep you from watching the greatest show ever made.

Man, this guy is really getting his mind blown by the concept that new people can join the main cast. He just got completely stunlocked by Franky for two entire openings.

Starting such a long series may be intimidating but it's not about catching up, it's about the journey. I started pretty recently and I'm on episode 150, really enjoying it so far!

The fact that this man keeps calling Hawk-Eye Zoro is hilarious😂😂😂. I can’t wait for him to watch the show and reflect on how hilarious this is. I hope he mentions this moment when he finally sees Hawk-Eye in the show😂😂. Imagine Zoro’s reaction if he ever heard this.

Having seen the first two arcs now I already feel silly 😂

Intro 7 was the main characters VAs singing in their characters voices

Luffy (Lou-fee) and there is no love interests among the Strawhat Pirates. *"WE ARE"* is the main theme song and it's in anniversary openings and its sung by different singers each time and by the voice actors in the 5th opening

The guy you kept calling Zoro is called Hawk-Eye Mihawk, the world's greatest swordsman, the one who Zoro(the three-swords user) seeks to surpass.

One piece is my favorite anime, and it is said by someone who saw dragon ball and more than 100 animes first before seeing one piece, it is a story that has so many moments that when you revisit them you feel nostalgic or even have tears, it can look very cartoony but it's just the style, as always the anime and the manga can put super horrible themes with extravagant characters

The once daunting number of episodes very quickly becomes not nearly enough. For the opening popularity, Fight Together (14) and Hope (20) are some really popular ones.

Apart from the openings you can watch videos like: the breathtaking world of one piece (spoiler free it is about the worldbuilding that in one piece is game of thrones level or more), also if you don't mind spoilers you can watch: one piece the greatest story ever told, and also videos like the appeal of one piece, those are my recommendations, many react to those videos because they are really worth it

One piece is dark but is funny too and make you cry but make you feel happy, and many many other feelings

I'm gonna be honest I hadn't really paid attention to the openings I was just excited to get to the anime 😌 Also you mentioned dark themes and while the openings seem light the anime has its share of dark themes. Each character has an arc and a sad past for the most part. By arc I mean a portion of the story that delves into their character.

29:45 "This feels like something very big story-wise happened and the tone has shifted a lot" --that was SUPER spot-on and the fact that you noticed the shift was insanely awesome (not gonna spoil anything tho)...Also regarding your question about how much the tone of the openings reflects what's going on in the story--most of the time early on, not at all :) The more recent ones (around 2018-present) kind of do reflect it better tho. Keeping it spoiler free, some of the happiest-sounding openings occur during the saddest/darkest arcs. But I loved your take on all of these!! It's cool seeing the music style and animation changing over time, especially since this started in the late 90s, we see it improve and get better :) Hope you can watch the show someday soon, I too thought it was long AF and only started watching it cuz my husband was trying to convince me to--and it quickly went from something to check off my list, to my favorite show/manga of all time, that I don't even think it's long ENOUGH hahaha. It's literally surpassed EVERY story I've ever consumed on any type of media, not just anime--the writer Eiichiro Oda is absolutely brilliant, there's a reason why One PIece is the #2 best-selling comic next to Superman, and that Oda is one of the top 10 best-selling writers of all time along with William Shakespeare and is constantly compared to Lord of the Rings. :) It's the one story I feel like everyone should experience at least once in their life.

I actually did start it recently and I'm about 7 episodes in :) I'm probably going to end up doing recap videos for each different arc too! I may even have to get into the manga I've heard so many great things about it! Thanks so for your comment!

One piece is kinda another level type of story. Despite there are so many arcs & characters, the plot never bcm so predictable. It will just bcm more and more interesting. Oda-sensei is genius writer, bcs not many writer put an necessary story for side characters but he makes us love and cry so much for them many times. Well you will also hate some, bcs some characters are just worse than anything. Also imagine the character we met on first arc, they will bcm important in 600+ episodes. I love One Piece bcs there are no unnecessary love interests especially among the main crew, but indeed one-sided crush from outside but it's not going to ruin the story, mostly just funny. One piece opening never spoiled the story, the deepest story still in the episodes. You will find yourself love every characters especially our straw hats crew members. It will be roller coaster journey.

When it comes to the ladies, Sanji is basically Brock from Pokemon, except on roids with the simping. And he always butts heads with Zoro. They just can't seem to get along for long. 10 seconds is their record for cooperation.

The main character Name is Monkey D Luffy. He has rubber power that he got by eating a devil fruit (power system of the show). So he can stretch his body like a rubber that how he jumps from one ship to another

I love the nicknames you give the characters when you don't know their names😂👍. It's very Luffy like😏😌.

Don't worry about the Ace thing, we all go through the same

Luffy had his scar on his cheek since he stabbed himself as a stupid little child because he thinks having battle scars are cool. He was actually trying to stab himself in the eye, but he missed.

This anime has some REALLY dark themes in it. Slavery, human trafficking, racism, murder, torture, peadophilia, and implied rape

@@sharronbrennon899 I don't think pedophilia was the focus. I think the One Piece world is much looser with the ages than our general modern worldview is. But it does highlight how disgusting the situation and people are yes. But One Piece has multiple characters that are in love or have a relationship with underage people(late teens), where the ages of the character is not a subject of importance and even mentioned. It makes sense considering the world, but I don`t think it's correct to say One Piece tackles the subject of pedophilia. But everything else is completely fair yes :)

The top rated intros are 1, 5, 6, and 15

One Piece has an incredibly large, rich and well thought-out world, so a lot of the characters shown in the openings are not villains, but rather side characters that are sometimes allies of the Strawhats (the main group of characters), sometimes characters the Strawhats helped and sometimes just ambiguous characters with their own agendas.

"i cant get the sense of whether there are powers in this show" he says on opening 8, after watching the main character blow himself up like a balloon, stretch his arms like rubber bands, and slingshot himself to another ship. XD

This show has lot of mysteries that make show soo special and even till now there mysteries are add upon the list. People even call this show has mystery piece and goat piece.

You should react to ( Is Starting One Piece Still Worth It In 2023? ) by Ohara. The video has very few spoilers and it highlights some of the things that make the series awesome. It will blow your mind.

Don't be afraid. This series is massive and long but it's worth it. Watch the little but amazingly done "One Piece Greatest Story every told" video.. you will understand what makes it so special.

Opening 4 always gives me goosebumps, such nostalgia

The first opening had multiple renditions of it done the first redo of the song was the voice actors of the show singing the song and yes there are powers and luffys is pretty much like Mr fantastic

The sheep head of the ship is not referring or mean anything except for the person that built the ship got a hair cut and horn like sheep. So as the engineer, he make the ship just like how his appearance. That is one of interesting aspect in one piece, the ship, power, or weapon always reflecting to the person personality, like if his name is bear, so he will appear like a bear or look like.

I´m personally not really into anime because often times its too goofy for me, but OP is definitely something else. I´m not a fan of the humor and artstyle at all... but the complexity of the world is au pair with Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and co. Many different factions, races competing / working with or against each other ( not just plain "pirates"). Topics like Slavery, Rascism, Authoritarianism, Legalism, Anarchy co. are playing major parts in this world. And I even shed a tear every once a while, because when sad moments occur, they hit you like a fricking truck. And thats why I´m still loving One Piece, goofy on the outside but deeply complex and serious on the inside. Keeping you on the edge of the seats after 1000 Episodes!

Opening 1/ 7 will be redone once more for the 1000th episode release and it will be different again by showing all of the crew members they have met over time and wearing different costumes. Even the visuals will be slightly different. It will not appear on episode1001 or any episode after that. It’s a 1000 episode special. My favourite opening is fight together

i know one piece is long is but don't let that intimidate you from watching it, the pacing also is slow in the anime at times I think it actually helps you take in the characters and world building a lot easier. and don't worry about dark themes in one piece, they've got corruption in power, racism, slavery, human trafficking to name a few. and one pieces story is not influenced by the openings because it was written before it was animated and the openings are made along with the story arcs, and because of how long it is you can also really see the animation evolve which is cool. and the first opening is done multiple times sung and animated differently. the first repeat is sung by the voice actors.

The fact that he nicknamed mihawk zoro makes me really happy

1:44 Everyone says that... I did. Then I'm getting to ep 900 and realizing I can't stand the fact that I was almost out of eps to binge watch lol. (Few years ago) I've seen many anime, almost all of the greats... and none of them touch upon the entertainment value that One Piece has. It's a masterpiece with the best world building in any anime and some foreshadowing that is just next level.

One piece is one of the biggest anime out there it has both sides of pirates and Marines. One piece power are consists of Devil fruit power each one doing something different like Luffy. The world of one piece is massive so if you don't really read the Manga you can never really predict where they are going to go every season is a new island has a new villain or has a new story and that's what makes this difference from everything else. It does have dark moments as well so you can expect that and some moments where you'll be more emotional then others. The characters are off the charts so many characters different races so it is mind opening with one piece you can expect the unexpected

I wouldn't say that there's a specific opening with one piece that is considered the best but it's generally believed that the second half of the openings are better than the first by a pretty wide margin. For other anime there is usually a clear standout or at least a couple that are just on a different level than anything else like for example Gintama opening 13 or Black Clover opening 3 and 10
