He was removed from the cast for no reason. He was a fan favourite for being very nice to investors so people speculate he was kicked out to try make the program more hostile like other investment programs

Richard Farleigh is a pretty cool character though, he stayed calm and collected whil Theo and Peter were ganging up

Richard is the best Dragon. Got to love how fair Duncan is at the end as well.

Might be sly but it's clever tatics on Peter's behalf. He will often put the other dragons off and make the pitcher doubt he's product or service when he sees something in it, all so he can secure the deal.

Richard did everything right not only in a classy manner but also very professionally. Hes everything a dragon stands for and is definitely one of the best dragons of all time. Peter and Theo had no business butting in and talking crap. Duncan did well by backing Richard at the end as well.

This pitch was phenomenal. He is to the point, polished, warm, generous. 21 years old, and he’s shown such initiative and commitment since he was only 17. Regardless of where his clothesline went, I know that he will go far in life- he is a true Elle model

Your instincts are true. It's a little known fact that Peter hada dinner party back in 2006, maybe '07? and his partner Tara practically threw herself at Richard. This caused PJ to resent Richard for the remaining time he had on the show and also could have impacted his leaving the show.

The young man showed a lot of composure for his age and in the circumstances. Kudos to him.

Richard's hair looked fabulous in this episode!

theo was on peters side he even said it himself it was cringe he did not enjoy it. both guys felt bad for the boy. Richard suddenly increased his share. while only providing the same amount of money offered. the point was u can be a dragon and absolutely devour certain entrepreneurs but even dragons shd have a code of ethics to some pitchers

If you declare out, you don't interfere with the other deals and that's the way it should be.

Why did none of them ask the most important question of "How well does it work." I can't see that only covering the top of the dryer is going to keep the clothes dry as rain very rarely falls only vertically. On a day with any wind at all, the rain comes in at an angle and as the dryer turns, all sides will get wet. The only clothes that will stay dry are those in the centre which are protected by the others, and as the line is short there only small things like socks will fit. Anything of any size will be near the outside and largely unprotected.

The Dragon's probably don't care if it works, they only care if the people buying it will fall for it and spend money on it. It has an obvious design flaw that's very easy to fix. It just needs to have a 5 sided cube shaped covering with zips at the corners.

His relative inexperience with hanging out the landry shows. When it rains it very often gets redirected by the wind, thus coming in from the sides.

Also, if you're using an umbrella in the wind, you have to point it into the wind or it'll get flipped inside out and broken. This thing will just catch the wind like a sail and launch itself across your garden.

The kid made a good decision. His reasoning that it's his first project so he wants to see it through to the end is key to understanding the mentality. He intends on making entrepreneurship his thing and he doesn't intend to stop at this product..he understands his own limitations, key among them his lack of experience. 60% of a million dollars is better than 100% of a failed business. He gets it. Good choice!

He could've had 80% with Deborah's offer, but Farley and Deborah stitched him up like a kipper. And Deborah kept her investment amount quiet, whilst Farley sealed the deal.

Richard is at another level: is handsome, educated, polite, but a strong negotiator at the same time. Peter and Theo were just jealous. Even they completely ignore the fact that was Debra the one who increased the share to 20%.

There is something finicky about negotiating deals especially when it's the only deal you have on the table which is that you can lose the deal altogether. I've seen it happen many times.

This whole pitch had me scratching my head for that reason. I’m having to spend a period of my life living outside to try to get well from an environmental illness and I’ve tried drying clothes under giant tarps, tents, under cover on verandas. Nothing keeps clothes from getting damp when it’s raining. And I state that with confidence from Portugal, not the U.K.!

To be fair, i think it would still mostly work, just the clothes on the outside would get wet and the rest would be mostly fine. Plus I think this could probably be adapted to have flaps that come down around and then it would be more protected. Granted this would make them dry slower, but idk they could be made retractable or something so you only put them down if you really think ti's going to rain, or you're going out or something

I'm just gonna agree with a lot of people in the comments. Once a Dragon declares themselves out, they should just sit back & let the negotiations continue & not try to undermine the other Dragons. The equity can always be renegotiated if the product is successful & that's two experienced business people this kid is getting on his side. Even if it fails, the kid will get some education out of it. Like Richard said, if Peter or Theo are so concerned, make an offer. Or mind your own business.

I agree. They could ask about changing the terms of the offer if they are interested. If not and say they are out thats the end. They wouldnt be able to sign a contract then negotiate!

I think had it been a more seasoned entrepreneur they would have stayed back. I think his age and him being new to the industry played the factor in the intervention. Doesn’t mean it’s right or wrong on any side though.

Where I come from, there’s seldom rain without wind, so my washing would still get pretty soaked on that thing.

I dunno…I didn’t like how vague Richard’s initial offer was. It seemed very quick and noncommittal (which turned out to be exactly the case since he changed his mind) and ultimately just led to confusion. Peter shouldn’t have attacked him like he did, but Richard was acting really weird.

@@michaelh9649 I don't feel 'Dickkie' was being vague/non-committal. I think it's generally called an "Expression of Interest." (Genuinely NOT being sarccy ✋🏽) With EOI's...the initial 'terms' are fluid. (Hence Richard seeming vague.) The terms are merely a starting point 4 negotiations. Ultimately...regardless of wether Dickkie 'changed his mind' or not...the fact is he @ least made an offer. Peter did not. So Dickkie was putting his 💰 where his mouth was. While Pete was on the side trying 2 influence negotiations he clearly didn't want to be part of. (Get the feeling Peter DIDN'T like Richard. Personally.) Hence trying to stir it up.

I'm surprised that absolutely no one question this product. This can only work it's raining without any wind. If it's raining and windy then the clothes will still get wet.

I like how Richard stood his ground.

21 is amazing, what a brilliant young man. Most 21 year olds are gurning in nightclubs, he’ll even most 33 year olds are, proud of this young man!

Roger is smart. He realises that 60% of something is better than 100% of nothing. I hope his product is doing well

He had 80% with Deborah's offer. But she failed to stipulate how much money she was willing to invest, before Farley stepped in, and took over the negotiation, ultimately stitching the guy up! Deborah was in no rush to step in at that point, because she knew she was going to save herself £42.5k, and STILL get 20% of the business. Fekking Greedy SHEISTERS.

I like how deborah just smartly stayed silent.

Wow at 21 years old, Roger is extremely bright and eloquent. 😄

The clothes will still get wet from wind-blown rain - it doesn't just fall vertically. Maybe an adaptation of this to double as a sun shade umbrella would increase usefulness.

I've never seen Peter and Theo do this to somebody else. Idk why they were ganging up on Richard when they're guilty of being greedy.

I think it was a good decision for the young Roger. He still has 60% of the company, the money he asked for, and not just one but two dragons. That's a lot.

Poor Roger just standing there uncertain what's going on while the dragons spit fire at each other.

If I were Richard I’d have just said to peter well what are you still yapping for when you are now out, you are irrelevant

You can tell Richard was quite shocked. It amounts to Peter trying to sabotage his deal. Likely, Richard would have considered them both business friends until that moment. It was incredibly inappropriate of Peter to do that.

Love to see the confidence roger brought in with him and props to him for standing his ground and making a wise decision though he was influenced by some unseen circumstances

I always loved Richard. He seems very polite and classy. Yes Richard does give criticism, but he doesn’t seem to enjoy watching the entrepreneurs sweat in the way that the other dragons do

That guy was not ready for all the bickering, he looked like he was gonna cry at one point after peter told him to question them :p

As Theo pointed out, Roger was 21 years old here. It would have been very nerve wracking making the pitch and selling himself and the product without the dragons bickering and making things even harder for Roger. As Roger then said, this is his first project and he wanted to make it work so the knowledge and expertise that Richard and Deborah would bring to the table would be invaluable to him. 40% is a lot but fair play to the guy and Richard and Deborah and great contacts to have for future projects.

4:40 helpful of him to mention the exact year. Makes my guess the year game so much easier.

Peter and Theo felt sorry for him because they have children. They can relate, and tried to help him.

Richard nearly got it, but the kid was really lucky none of the dragons questioned how ineffective this product would be in even the slightest wind. The rain would angle in toward the sides. Although this could be resolved by adding another section around the outside which is angled down and about a foot long.

Peter was trying to warn the guy that he was being stiched up. That shows integrity, that the other two SHARKS failed to display.

Peter and Theo are the sort of people who go to a yard sale and complain about all the stuff that is on offer. And proceed to have a go at those people who try to negotiate a cheap deal.

You do realise that water is more dense than those clothes.... and if the wind blows the water in one direction it's going to blow the clothes even more in that same direction. Look how a flag flies even when it's not that windy.

Roger and Deborah both handled it well. You could see Deborah was annoyed and slightly shaking her head at Peter. And Roger was shocked but remained focused and professional. Both Peter and Theo could learn some manners and professional behaviour from Roger!

I'm pretty sure I've seen these around the Toronto area, in people's back yards. That is pretty awesome, I hope this guy is living well

I'm Team Richard all the way. As much as I love the show, the main-cast of Dragons can be huge jerks alot of the time.

Think its just poor editing. This is like an hr+ pitch that they just cut to the air time and then cut even further for these YT clips. So it was probably clearer before. Being that Richard already said he was going half for 15% I assume the other dragons were coming in on that investment unless they stated otherwise.

Everybody’s simping for Richard but honestly the way Duncan stood up for him near the end was really admirable. “Put your money where your mouth is.”
