This chap studied up on his negotiation tactics and it paid off. Notice how a bit of quick mental math let him skillfully imply Peter’s valuation was too low, not by pointing it out as a statement, but rather asking him if he agreed with the conclusion. Asking questions, getting the other side talking, ultimately negotiating with themselves. Not bad.

He almost negotiated himself out the door. He had a better offer that he ignored and he kept bucketing about a lousy 5% when he should have just accepted the offer. And there is the possibility that Peter just didn’t negotiate all that well. He gets the benefit of the doubt far too often

My respect for Peter just doubled. He didn't let ego get in the way of that negotiation and instead saw the entrepreneur's negotiations as an advantage for him as an investor, in the future. Kudos to Peter! Great pitch and battle from the entrepreneur! I enjoyed that!

i don't understand why Jenny cried "goodness" when the guy asks for a salary or negotiats hard. This is exactly the type of negotiating which take place all the time, responsible businessmen (and businesswomen) negotiate down to the last detail, from budget to salary. This is the closest I have seen in this show to a real negotiation with investors which is not done in front of the TV cameras. Peter Jones understands it, and the question whether he can guarantee the order is an important part of negotiating for salary. Good for them, not so good for Jenny.

Except their lack of knowledge hurt them on this investment. This man is misusing kick-starter because he doesn't know how to run a company or invest properly.It will faill eventually because he will never build a website or actually get into stores as a known brand. How do you do two kick-starters and propose a 3rd? Has he even delivered the products promised in the Kick-starter campaigns yet? So many warning signs on this one, he should have backed out.

I agree. Jenny may have been smart enough to turn a failing business into a financial success due to acquisition through liquidation, but that's hardly a resume to merit scoffing a negotiations barter for a rising business with a promising future which was built from scratch. There is indeed a market for Alex's product, and shows huge potential for both it and the savvy, fearless entrepreneur. When Deborah was rubbing her temples and whispering under her breath, "Don't lose it for 5%" my question was whether it was directed to Alex or directed to Peter.

I think they are just shocked that his actually descent at negotiating, the type of people who come on Dragons Den are usually very inexperienced business wise, hence why they always get taken advantage of by the Dragons.

I rate this guy. Must carry his balls around in one of them leather bags. Maybe one ball per bag they’re that big. Could have backfired massively but he held his nerve and it paid off tenfold

She barely ever makes offers and when she does it's always clear that other dragons can bring in more outside of just money. Why would anyone target her? In this case peter has access to tech companies which could provide a connection for the bag company and £200k contract in the immediate future. All jenny offers is money.

Peter understands real business negotiations. He knew EXACTLY what was going on. Which is why he knew if he wanted that extra 5% cushion he’d HAVE to guarantee the order for 200k. Short term loss perhaps but a long term gain. Clever strategy from both men.

Peter’s respect here comes from realising he’d bragged too hard about what value he could add, the kid was smart enough to demand that value is guaranteed

I'm glad he secured a deal. He's an assertive, clever man with great negotiation skills. But unlike so many other assertive entrepreneurs on Dragons' Den, he was respectful to the dragons, and wasn't an arrogant prick. Plus, I like his products. Great guy, hope the business does well

That was the best episode of dragons den I’ve ever seen. Exhilarating, Imagine being in his shoes great business man !

Yep brilliant. I was expecting Peter to go out at any moment but he was pushed just so far but not enough to piss him off.

Hands down, Alex was amazing. He fits the profile of a CEO. Clearly knows where the business needs to be.

That's what I love about Peter and Mark from shark tank. They don't bring emotions or ego when talking business. An egoistic or emotional person would have felt insulted or irritated at this negotiation. But Peter was loving it

Well done mate, that's literally how to do it: You stood your ground, you were willing to negotiate, you threw in new bargaining chips to incentivise them to change, you knew your limit and you didn't allow these alleged big cheeses to bully you into submission. You did of course also come in with an investible profit-making opportunity and a strong starting offer which left you room to manoeuvre. If you get all that right you can win in the den, and part of it is knowing where their edge is, and taking them right up to it so they're touching it. You achieved that by asking questions to see where their head was at. Well done, That's how to negotiate.

This is incredible! This guy knee he had something valuable, he knew he had interest, and he pressed on all the right points for negotiation. Incredible work, good on him!

You can see this guy has read Never Split the Difference. He is using the same tactics haha. Great negotiator, that's the type of person you want to work with. He did not back down and stayed polite, asked open-ended questions to tire Peter. It worked!

I would love to see Peter Jones on the Canadian version of Dragons Den. The Canadian dragons would be completely taken aback by his shrewdness.

My dad used to own a chauffer drive and had picked him up loads and all the drivers said the same thing that he is disrespectful, rude and gave off the vibe that he thought he was better than them no matter how successful someone is it doesnt make them better than the average guy on the street. The guy on the street could be a nicer person thats done way more for humanity

I'd consider this the most educational episode i've come across so far in terms of business. I learned a LOT.

For those wondering, the deal broke down afterwards and the investment was never completed.

Not surprised. They didn't ask him any questions really. I think the show's ratings might go up with more deals made and then behind the scenes the due diligence comes up with bad news.

I respect Peter, but I fear Deborah. Give her a piece of paper and she'll be able to tell you which tree it came from.

He's smart, sharp, confident, ambitious yet knows his limits. I can see why they liked him and why they called him investable. Sounds less like peter was investing in the business and more like he was investing into the guy himself

Peter seems like the only sensible "Dragon" in the den. Everyone else gets pissed off and withdraw their money as soon as they don't accept their offers and start negotiating.

Touker and Deborah are sensible. Deborah hasn't got the funds to invest lots that's why she only does rarely. I've seen Peter pull out because of pride several times.

It made sense for Jenny to pull out. It was clear Peter was his preferred dragon, which is why he went into a tricky negotiation with him even though she asked for less equity in the business. I don't think she was pissed rather realised she wasn't going to get as good a deal as Peter so bowed out.

Max Wicked I beg to differ. Sensible is not the word. Peter is the most narcissist dragons. He is cunning and very manipulative. He uses these tactics all the time and they work. He is quite greedy too, he will always ask for 3 to 5 times equity, always. If he sees a threat then he will try to derail others by misleading them. Kudos for his success but I just can't stand extremely greedy manipulativeness

I'm in awe!! If it wasn't successful I'd almost say he was argumentative. Brilliant display.

Him and Peter will make a formidable force to be reckoned with. Good luck to them both. Entrepreneur had some excellent negotiation skills and very good nerves kept his cool with focus on the target and it was evident Jenny wasn't his target. Peter on the other hand just couldn't hold back. A match made in heaven.

That was my favourite negotiation in the den by far. It's ok for the dragons to say they will do this and that, but putting a proper verbal agreement in place first makes this guy is a rock star..

True businessman not scared to negotiate and walks away with a deal good on him

This was probably the best negotiation that ever took place in the Den. Well done leather boy!

The smartest dude i have seen enter the den. His negotiation skills are top notch. Unfazed, had the bigger picture in mind. That speaks volumes. He won't fail in his line of business.
