Doctor title being prestigious isn’t just Asian thing, but what he saying about his parents seems like more of a Chinese thing, look up Chloe Zhao’s comment about China, they lie all the time and thinks it’s a good thing to step over others to rule over others

I am not a Doctor, I am a financially broke Computer Systems Administrator and I live in the US. It sounds nice that some of the other more civilized countries of the World perform the hard work necessary to get their people appropriate care. Further, my Father isn't worthy of anything from me for free, I've been keeping his incompetent ass from losing his home for lack of payment for a couple of decades now. To be fair though, the healthcare system in China is absolute horseshit. They'll write you up for antibiotics every chance they get just so they can make money off commission. If you're dying and dont got the money, nobody will save you. They completely disregard the sacred oath This has happened several times already. For example, a man carried his sick child on his back for 40km to the nearest hospital hoping to save his life. He was turned away at the hospital because he couldn't pay up. And his child died right there in front of him. What this guy is saying holds a lot of truth in regards to the healthcare in China. It's downright inhumane.

I used to go to a convenience store every morning before school from the age of 9 thru 18. There was an Asian lady there(she was the manager) that I became friends with, she literally watched me grow up. I would help her out at the store in my free time. She taught me a good work ethic. When I started talking about college, she said "You become doctor?". I was unsure of what I wanted to do at the time. Several times she tried to convince me to become a doctor lol. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I now know she said it out of love.

Mum never wanted me and my siblings to be a doctor. She didn't want us to be exposed to sickness all the time for a career so it was weird growing up with other Asian classmates who were so into wanting to be doctors; we'd all been conditioned to think of it as a non-glamorous profession.

Yeah my mom is a scientist with a PhD and she never wanted me to get into the sciences or med school. I also did not have the aptitude for it. Growing up I was discouraged from careers that required too much education because my mom felt like she wasted her youth in a laboratory. They wanted me to get into a career that makes good money without extra education... unfortunately I'm the type who's good at school and not at real life 😂 it was so weird learning from other kids that their parents obsessed over them becoming doctors, lawyers, or engineers. my parents told me those jobs are too demanding and stressful and take too much time to study for lol

I don't know if it is genetic or what, but as an Asian descendant I've seen my family's reluctance to go to the doctor first-hand: once my uncle had just developed an allergy by eating crab, so he was literally dying, but still refused to go the doctor even though the entire family was telling him to go. Well, I do not remember what we said (I'm not sure, but I think it was something to the effect of "Just imagine the problem you're going to cause if you don't go and then die", but don't remember it), but eventually he went to the doctor who later said that if he had taken any longer, he would've died. Worst thing is, my grandma, I think my mom once too, and even I have done similar things (though thankfully, in my case it really turned out to not be as serious as it could've been, which was really lucky on my side).
