On demand pump and 4x4 water bladder

This is a follow up to our first video about preparing the water bladder for use in our 4x4. In this video we have a look at how the pump works with the bladder and where the various parts were installed.

    Interesting video. Thank you. Is the first fitting coming from the water spout, just a push in fitting?

    Yes, it was coated in silocone and then pushed inside the existing tube. Because there is no real pressue placed on that fitting it has worked with any leaks so far.

    I would add a ring tightener on the outside as well. Cheers 👍🏻🙏🦘

    I'm not a fan off the bladder. I'm worried about them leaking but I do think the idea is pretty good. Not sure about using garden fittings though. How many litres do you think you get in the bag and how long do you think you would get out of it.

    Yeah, leaking might be an issue eventually but I am hoping it will last a while before that happens. This one is supposed to be 55 litres and the original idea was that it would be used for short trips in the 4x4 (2-3 nights) but now we are building a camping trailer to tow behind which has 2 x 43 litre tanks so we will be able to do longer trips. The garden fittings seem to be ok so far. If they do leak a bit then I will wrap some silicone tape around them.

    The clear Vinyl tubing you used - is that the Pope 12mm or 16mm 150kPa design pressure available from bunnings? Asking because I am looking for food safe flexible tubing which can handle the Shurflo shutoff pressure of 380kPa (55psi) without having to go with John Guest, or the stiff reinforced stuff from bunnings.

    I will try and remember to check the size when Dorothy brings the 4x4 over tomorrow. (It did come from Bunnings).

    @@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen Thank it looks like that is the Pope 16mm vinyl from bunnings. It's good hose with no taste. Just a bit concerned that it'll burst one day as the 150kpa design pressure is much lower than the pump shut off pressure.but possibly you'll get away with it in your set up if you don't repeatedly shut the pump into that section with a valve or hose end.

    Is the bladder still ok to date?

    Yes, still fine although we have probably only used it about half a dozen times so far.

    How does the water taste after being sat in bladder and through the hose?

  • @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

    @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

    Yeah, that seems like it is going to be a bit of an issue. The water was starting to taste a bit yukky so I flushed it out with bi-carb and vinegar again but I haven't had a chance to use it sonce. It might have been a better idea to go with a solid footwell tank but we are still testing this long term to see how it goes.

    @@WesternAustraliaNowAndThen I've been using 30litre stainless steel underbody and plastic 20Iitre jerry. But we always filter our water with a Brita filter anyway if we are going to drink it. So far so good except we need more storage space and to rig up a pump like you have. Thanks for the video - gives some ideas.
