Totally agree with you, she's heaps better than the others we viewed. The compass is pretty tucked up and to be honest it's really robust. Seem to remember you saying in a previous that the 36ft would be too small for us..... You was right, the 40ft is perfect 👌🏼

New subscriber - we have a 37' Dean Catamaran which we bought as hull deck and bulkheads - took 3 years to build everything ourselves - that was 20 years ago and we have done more than 10,000 nautical miles - love our boat and can still remember what it felt like when we took ownership - will be watching your journey - how wonderful to have your kids so young and with you on this amazing adventure!

Great choice of boat! A very good alrounder. You'll have less headaches than with the older southerly you visited. Thé first fiberglass hull boat to go through the northwest passage was a Bavaria 50!!!

The good thing about the southerly was it’s lifting keel and the tabernacle mast but sooo glad we went for the Bavaria in the end, our friend who’s had Bavaria’s for years told us they are very strong and built to category B same as the Halberg Rassy’s, I didn’t know that one was the first boat through the Northwest passage that’s interesting. When I did the bow thruster, the section I cut out was 3/4” thick hand layed glass, which I’m told is pretty thick for a production boat. Cheers Gav

Great Video!!! I love all the info with Auto pilot.... megga interesting, What year is the boat? It looks lovely and wide. How is the storage? What camera did you use for the end walk? Music levels are just right too....each video gets better....not that they were bad in the first place....by any means! I am green and happy for you! I really feel your excitement.

She's a 2003 and feels really beamy(wide) the storage is unbelievable there isn't one ounce of wasted space, its fantastic! The camera at the end is the iPhone 7 plus on 4k setting. Sailing SV Compromise well if you think about chopping a boat in half and adding 4' in the middle that is a lot of extra space.

hi guys, wondering if you could do a video about what you thought it was gonna cost for ur boat, say the price is 10k for the boat, well since the initial cost of the boat, how much more have you needed, do you need some kind of licence to go to sea and up the coast and whats the process for that please, also like the marina costs or mooring costs.... if you get stuck for ideas... im in uk too, its all good watching american videos but the system is completely different with regards to ports, also how did you learn to use the radio and did you need a licence for that too.... thanks in advance, like the channel

Really boring 🤔 but I said I thought I knew what the boat was but didn’t want to spoil it for you and others. All codes have a key. To decipher what I sent you you would obviously have to know it or just play with what you knew ... BAV ... and those numbers, 22. 23. 02. In this case the key was the date I posted on the 24th. B is the second letter of the alphabet so take 2 off 24 = 22 and so on. God that is boring but at least I WAS RIGHT 👍👍👍👍👍. Sorry, I promise to never waste your time again ... but you did tease us all 😋😋

Hi I enjoyed the video. I see that the control head is installed very close to the binnacle mounted compass? I wondered what the safe install distance is supposed to be and what if any reaction you get when you watch the steering compass as you switch on the power to the autopilot. I would expect to see a big deviation of the compass with it being immediately behind it. I would be interested to know if this is what happens? i know its not controlling the autopilot but both the precision compass installed in the cabin and the Binnacle compass should be reasonably the same

Hi I can report back and say everything is working fine and both the binnacle compass and the Raymarine are perfect. We sailed 16hrs yesterday on almost the same course all day and we set the course using paper charts. I put my iPhone mount near the compass and we got a bit of deviation, so I moved that. Thanks again for watching.

Hi Claire We won't be living on her to start with, we want to get Kyle through school before we consider being liveaboards. Love the idea of it and the boat is comforting enough. We will be sailing almost every weekend and every school holidays. Thanks Gav, Hannah, Liam & Kyle x
