Thank you for your comments. Privately, I would express the view that if you think you are good at something, you can make your point confidently and quietly without making a lot of empty noise.

I enjoy how often you speak about the benefits of the M Zuiko 12-100 F4 Pro and describe how these benefits are accomplished. It is the only lens that I own, paired with my EM1.3. Recently I assigned the Lens function button to the Digital Zoom (2X) feature of the camera. Some may shudder that I'm doing this type of crop in camera with M4/3rds but I'm getting positive results. I enjoy landscape photography and typically only use this on wildlife that is within reasonable reach. I enabled the feature for the fun of it and am glad I have it when I need that longer reach and no other lens is available.

Thanks Derek another great piece of advice. Your pictures is also great!!! BTW, I noticed that you always use spot metering. Can you advise how to use spot metering, like where to point to, etc.

Thank you for your comments. As to where you spot-meter, every image is different. It is a craft that takes time to master and I certainly didn't get it right first time. In its simplest form you spot-meter near a highlight, not on it, and adjust shadows in post-production. That is how the images in this programme and others are done.

As always Derek, very inspiring video. With the weather warming (albeit slowly), I'm looking forward to getting out and shooting. I have the 12-100 as it's almost universally praised yet I my only camera body is the OM-5. It does seem a bit of a mismatch in terms of weight and balance but I've found it not difficult to use when supporting the main weight of the combination with my left hand and operating the camera with my right. I've not shot too much yet with this combination but will do so soon. You're shared photos inspire me. Thank you.

I too am looking forward to Spring, love this time of year. Have booked my trip to Belfast later this month, staying overnight at Carrickfergus. I will probably take both the 12-100 and 12-45 for the OM-5 and slip the E-M10 and 12-50 in my rucksack as backup. Going by air, so travelling light. Just room for my toothbrush!

@@DerekForss, I wish you safe travels. I recently found your video wherein you reviewed the Olympus 14-150mm and now it has me wondering whether, with it's much lighter weight and longer reach, it might be better for the OM-5 than the 12-100 PRO.

I haven't tried the 14-150 on the OM-5, maybe an idea for the future? By the way, the 14-150 is variable aperture whereas the 12-100 is constant.

Great work as always, but if you have the opportunity you might want to revisit the composition at 7:29 with better lighting.

The image quality of your to-camera segment is much improved this week, looking good sir! As a beginning photographer I’m unfamiliar with what “JCB” means, could you enlighten me please?

  • @DerekForss

JCB is the name of a manufacturer of diggers and excavators, commonly used for that type of equipment for moving heavy objects. In full the name means Joseph Cyril Bamford Excavators Ltd.

Great advice again Derek, you have an "eye" for a composition, I do not think that can be taught. Recently invested in the 12 to 40 F2.8 len,s. Superb, might replace 3 primes?

When I ran photo-holidays, I could only offer guidance for composition, like interpretation of music, it cannot be taught and neither can experience. Unfortunately, we live in an age of instant gratification encouraged by technology. I would get students coming for the weekend expecting to be as good as me by Monday acquiring skills that took me 50 years. One student made the comment afterwards 'tutor did not try hard enough'!
