I am so pleased to learn that you are continuing to enjoy looking at my programmes. Thank you for letting me know.
I came here to figure out how to get night-sight style photographs without resorting to HDR and JPEG-only output. Thank you, Mr. Forss - this video is fully illuminating!

Thank you for letting my know that my 'York at Night' programme has been helpful. I have over 200 productions about photography on KZread, here is the link to my Homepage: - kzread.info
Wow, being a m43 and with F4 lens I did not think that it could achieve such amazing results at night, Thank you for the video!

Quite a lot of nonsense is expressed here and elsewhere about M43, it can do a lot more than photographers of other formats think.
Absolutely beautiful night photos and incredibly valuable tips! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

My pleasure!
This is a very educating video. The first part is just visual delight. The final bit has such wonderful insights. And a testimony of the power of RAW. Have to switch to using them...

Thank you for your comments. I am a firm believer in saving to RAW as it gives you far more flexibility in post-production for satisfying a variety of clients requirements than JPEG.
Incredible!! Just goes on to show how important it is to know your camera. Its strengths and its weaknesses.

Thank you, I have done other night-time photography. It is also good with the same combination inside churches and stately homes.

I guess this blows up the expose to the right mantra.
@DerekForss

I have never supported the idea of exposing to the right as you are in danger of creating overexposed highlights on images having a high dynamic range that are difficult to correct. Underexposure is not without its own problems, in particular noise, but at least you stand a better chance of suppressing it. Thank you for your comment.
Wow sir you are a great storyteller, great video, you have my subscription

Hello Roland. Thank you for letting me know. I hope that all goes well!
Hi Derek, I have only just discovered your marvellous channel. I am seriously considering buying an Olympus E-M1X with the same lens at you used in this video. You have unknowingly helped me make the decision to buy what I consider to be the best camera and lens combination available for my needs. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge 🙏

Hello Shane, pleased to learn that one of my programmes has encouraged you to consider investing in an E-M1 + 12-100 Pro Lens. I have several other programmes featuring this combination and you may find my website helpful in accessing them. www.derekforss.com Best wishes and thanks. Derek Forss

I wish to be good as you! I am considering a combo Om-d EM1 Mk2 +12-100. With the mk3 now in the market, I found the mk2 and the lens at a very good price (new). I wanted to know if the combined action of the built in and lens stabilisers would allow lower EV for extra stops, and you confirmed it. Now I am sold

Thank you for your comments. I am so pleased to hear that my programmes have helped you to make the right decision in respect of camera equipment.
Hi Derek understanding you using spot metering meter the whiter area & -0.3 which mode do you use?
@DerekForss
5 жыл бұрын
I am not sure whether I fully understand the nature of your enquiry, but I combine -0.3EV with spot-metering. Whilst the OM-D E-M1mkii has sophisticated ways of controlling the dynamic range of exposure, I tend to use my eyes, an answer that disappoints some photographers! As I believe the programme explains, I err on the side of underexposure risking noise so that highlights stand a chance of correction, a technique that takes a bit of practice and experience. As they say, 'practice makes perfect'!
Hi, Derek, Do you import to Olympus workspace first then transfer to Lightroom. Thanks, Alan.

Alan Lewis I haven’t tried Workspace yet, but I download and catalogue using Viewer, as briefly shown in programme, before importing information into Lightroom.
I like your (very British) storytelling very much, but to me, some of the pictures look "overcooked" ever so slightly. As an example, there's ghosting around the spires at 1:25 - too much "Clarity" maybe? Or perhaps it's just due to the KZread compression? I don't know. Sometimes less is more IMHO.

You are probably right! When working in such challenging lighting, you push things as much as possible in post-production and have noted myself several times that I go too far! Best wishes and thanks.
