Baking the sweet potatoes is the secret! This recipe is spot on, love it!

I've used this pie recipe 3 years in a row. I come back to this video every time. I do make one adjustment, it is a little sweet for my taste so instead of 4 cups of sugar I put 3 1/2 a small tweak for my personal preference but still a great recipe. One other thing I do is instead of 3 deep dish pie shells I get 2 deep dish and 2 regular to make 4 pies instead of 3!

Oh my goodness, this is the best sweet potato pie recipe I have ever used. I made 3 of these tonight for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. My family was eating the pie mix from the mixing bowl. Just made these pies and my childern and husband loved them. I didnt use the lemon juice just the lemon extract. And instead of deep dish I did the shallow dish pies crust. These pies came out PERFECT!!!!!

How did yours turn out K Queen ....... if you don't have the butter extract your pie will still turn out well. the butter just adds a layer of down home goodness ole grandma style. I would suggest that you get it because it can be used in so so many recipes for depth of flavor. Question 1) No, but you can use a spoon or butter knife to smooth you pie out but it will really smooth itself out during the bake. 2) Yes, have your pie crust completely thawed when you bake. At 350 my oven will keep my piecrust golden brown, All ovens are different, so if yours darkens your piecrust too much then bake it longer at 325 or cover rim of pie crust with strips of aluminum foil. OMG!! Delicious!! I doubled my recipe and used 5 cups sugar and 1 cup brown sugar. I also omitted the lemon juice and lemon extract. This is doggone delicious!!

You should not leave those 2 things out. When I tell if you enjoyed your pie without it, you're going to slap yourself when you put that lemon in there. Trust me. Been putting it in mine for years.

Thank you, Meso, for your recipe! I made some sweet potato pies for Thanksgiving Day, following your recipe and EVERYBODY was saying how DELICIOUS they were! I did tweak the recipe just a tad by putting a pinch of ginger and a splash of condensed milk. I also put some eggwash on the edges of the piecrust before baking them. That Saturday after Thanksgiving, all of my family wanted to take a pie home (back to NYC) so I made 4 more pies! Then that Monday I made 4 more!! I will never used another recipe!! I remember the Watkins. We had a salesman that would come by our home here in Texas when I was young coming up. Meso you are taking me back to the good times. Thank you so very much for taken me out of the things we going through here in Texas recently with the storm called Harvey. The house that I grow up in was floated out by the Colorado river. Everyone i heard in town had to evacuate . You can only imagine! I live in the city (Big H) but the picture i received from my home town was surrounded by a river. Seasons of life. My mother was a very great cook back in the days we did not have all the things we have today. That is why I am thankful to God! If I am making two potato pies how would I narrow the ingredient down. Made this pie for Thanksgiving and it turned out great, will be making it again this Christmas. I always use to boil my sweet potatoes, but I see now how baking them really makes a difference. This is one recipe that when people won't follow it exactly I feel disappointed because I know what the end product could be but they are going to end up with just another mediocre/average sweet potato pie. Thank you for this! I have a good pie recipe I've been making for years but I must try this recipe. I bake my potatoes too but tasted good pies with boiled potatoes. Never used flour in my custard. After baking I put my potatoes through a ricer to get all the strings out, hence nice smooth potatoes.

Greetings. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I used your recipe with a minor difference in making the slurry and add another tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. The person I shared two pies with really enjoyed and so did I. Your recipe tastes like how sweet potato pie should taste unlike the Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie, which had a weird aftertaste. Tasting your recipe makes me want to test the recipe with more citrus. It's delicious. I do recommend that the sweet potato mixture be allowed to rest overnight so the flavors become more concentrated. I noticed that difference between the first and second pies. Again thank you for showing how you make your sweet potato pies. Yours even taste better than the Betty crocker sweet potato recipe my relative uses. A huge difference, too.

Sadly I did follow the exact instructions and the pies came out super lemony and very light in color. Also yielded 4 pies. They still tasted good but not what i expected. I told my family it’s lemon sweet potato pie =/

This is exactly how I make my sweet potatoe pies. My Mom passed it on down to me and lemon juice/extract balance out the flavor. I cannot eat it without the lemon flavor. Job well done sister!! I'm gonna try baking my potatoes. I boil them cause I make a huge batch..a canning pot full every year for the holidays. But this year I will try it your way.

Welp! It's that time of year again. This is THE sweet potato recipe to use for Thanksgiving. I use this recipe EVERY year. It's awesome!

Hi Nikki, I am so guilty of that because I really don't measure and didn't realize how important it is to a lot of people to know the exact measurements until I started doing my channel. That's why if I don't actually measure I still give a measurement for the viewer that will make theirs taste right. But people that watch me cook for a while eventually get the hang of eyeballing it. I'm glad you are going to try this for C'mas and if you follow the recipe exactly you will see it is the best sweet potato pie you'll ever taste and I am not just saying that. Your sweet potato pie is absolutely the best

I made these pies like two weeks ago and omg. They were soooo good. It did take me two bowls to mix everything since I don’t have a big bowl. I made it exactly like you said although I was skeptical about the lemon juice everything turned out delicious. I will use this recipe forever. Thank you for this video!
