Sweet potato pie and peach cobbler are the two greatest desserts. Just throw in some mac and triple cheese, fried chicken, greens and a tall glass of sweet tea. I like mine with half a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

So I had to leave a comment. This recipe is so good. I tried for the 1st time this year. The only thing i did differently was I used evaporated Carnation milk to replace the buttermilk and lemon juice to replace the lemon extract. I pre-cooked my crust as well for 5 min because I don’t like the doughy taste and it came out soooo good. Thanks Aunt Vivian!

My mother made the best sweet potato pie! I mean "thee" best! She didn't make it from a recipe. But it always ended up being enough for 3 pies. I would stay up with her until 3,4,5 o'clock in the morning while she baked red velvet cakes, 7 up cake and sweet potato pies. We would laugh and she'd share stories. She died when I was 19. I'm now in my 40's. I miss those talks. I miss hearing her laugh. I miss the sound of her voice. I'm glad I saw this video. This year I'll make this recipe. Even if it's just for me. I've tried eating pumpkin pie on 5 different occasions. It's just not the same. Sweet potato pie is where it's at! Thanks for the recipe!🙂

I have made Aunt Vivian’s Sweet Potato pie for 3 years now for both Christmas and Thanksgiving. It is amazing. I love pumpkin pie but this pie is unique. I had to try it because of the lemon. My grandmothers recipe is similar to your aunt Vivian‘s recipe except my grandmother never used cinnamon and she used fresh squeezed lemon juice instead of the lemon extract. A lot of people don’t know this but the original sweet potato pie recipe never included cinnamon or lemon extract. It included sweet potatoes, sugar, real lemon juice, nutmeg, eggs, and flour and milk. Sweet potato pie is supposed to be a very simple recipe. I’ve seen different variations of this recipe over the years. I’ve see people use ginger and browned butter as well as brown sugar instead of white sugar in their recipe🤷🏾‍♀️. In my own recipe I too include lemon extract and buttermilk and just started using cinnamon last Thanksgiving it did give the pie a different taste that was very pleasant

@@RNR_the_SerialReader You only want to make your crust a little firm, do not cook your crust. Remember it will continue to cook while you are baking your pie. If you do not partially bake your crust, it could be really weak and crumbly when you cut your pie.

There's usually very little variation in sweet potato pie recipes. This one is a little different, and it's always nice to see one made without canned condensed milk...not that there's actually anything wrong with that either.

I put lemon extract in my pies. That lemon flavor really brings the flavor out. U thing ur pie is good now. A little lemon makes it bomb. Com lol...I haven't tried buttermilk but I would because buttermilk does the same thing. I'm going to give that buttermilk thing a try. Buttermilk makes the best cornbread, biscuits etc....
