As a white guy from nothern Germany I have to say that your recipe is quite close to "our" version of potatoe salad. We usually don't use celery (as far as I know, at least), but I can imagine it should fit in very well.....actually, every region here has it's own, slightly different way to prepare it, but RAISINS are definitely a war crime :-D Thanks for sharing and many greetings from Hamburg ;-)

Tip for folks who don't have a sweet onion: if you soak a "regular" onion (red, white, yellow, etc) in cold water for 5 minutes after slicing that'll remove some of the enzymes that cause tanginess/bad breath.

Great and funny personality to go along with the great instructions. Everybody and their momma has posted cooking videos, but yours are indeed special.
Thank you. I kept looking for a good recipe, this being the first time making potato salad, and could not find a good one. They always had some extra weird things I don't really care for. I followed yours, mostly I added green onion instead of chives, and it turned out fantastic. Thank you so much.
This is cookout worthy 👍🏾😊 However every Black family has variations to this recipe but he definitely has the basics down. For instance some Black families would never use Miracle Whip or stone ground mustard. Some prefer Dukes or Hellmann's mayo, and for mustard Goldens Spicy Brown Mustard. Some only use sweet relish and not dill. Every Black family is different but I applaud the fact that Tasty has decided to set the record straight regarding potato salad that will get you in at the cook out.👍🏾😊💗

White guy here - I love potato salad and even though this wasn't the way I grew up eating it (never had any damn raisins though!!) I love this recipe because unlike some white people I always like lots of seasoning, spice, and flavor in my dishes. The last few times I've made potato salad I've used Brian Lagerstrom's classic recipe - he's an awesome KZread cook who has a pretty good potato salad recipe even if it's not for "The Cookout" if you know what I mean. Next time I'm gonna combine elements of his and Jermaine's recipes. I'm definitely gonna try it with hot sauce, paprika, and onion/garlic powder, but I gotta have dill, it's too good, sorry if it's bougie but for me that's a must. And the mayo has gotta be Duke's or homemade. I don't like sweet relish and I'm skeptical about stone ground mustard but otherwise this looks dope.
Omg. It's so simple but I never thought to grate the onion. I can't stand the texture of chunky chonks of onion but love the flavor it brings. Thank you!

He cracked me up. And he's like all over the black family. I like that he's not ashamed of his heritage. My grandma. Some kids now days are so full of hate. Good to see some people still have pride in who they are.

“That in some places is called a 1/4” yeooo🤣🤣
That’s exactly what I said. My grandmother used to make this all the time and it was the best! Now I’m seeking to make this too with the exact, and I mean EXACT same taste.

Now I’m petrified to make potato salad.
I wholeheartedly approve of 'no raisins' in potato salad.
The Chef , Jermaine , was very knowledgeable and funny. He made the video creative yet a bit humorous ! I made the potato salad and my sons loved it ! 👍🏽

I love the simplicity, I love the nostalgia and bringing it back to your what your grandparents made. No capers, no salmon etc. love what "NOT" to put in it.
Loved the video! Going to try the recipe for the weekend. Thanks!
You're not only a good cook but you can even be a comedian! Cheers!
If this becomes a cooking show on tv in the mornings I'd watch it everyday.
