Ah, buffet memories... One time when we were kids, my cousin Josh got a heaping bowl of ice cream and took a big bite before realizing that it wasn't ice cream, but instead it was that fluffy type of butter. And he took a massive bite of it. The whole family laughed and Josh was so embarrassed that he went out to the car and cried. Our family isn't allowed to talk about it to this day.

A large chunk of my childhood was spent at my area's OCB because everyone in the family was still alive/well and we celebrated everything at the restaurant especially birthdays. Ponderosa was plan B, like if we were in the mood but were on the other side of the city at the time. All throughout the 90s I was a 'husky' kid so what did it matter what was on my plate at the time? I'd burn some off while running around in the yard, playing outside, riding bikes with pals. When the locations closed, it's insulting how it happened. Someone from corporate could've at least put out a statement via the news a month beforehand, y'know. It wasn't so much about the atmosphere and artery-clogging food. A little courtesy goes a long way, but nope, hastily typed message taped to the locked doors. My uncle's health center did the same thing. Open for 40 years and they stayed locked up one morning with a note telling everyone to bugger off.
ocb after church hit different
I live in Canada but I remember going to OCB with my family when we would cross the border to shop in the United States. I loved it so much and was such a treat as a kid. My favourite desert has to be the peach cobbler.
“What if we do a thing that’s like BoxMac meets what’s in Junt’s cart…” Love the show. Can’t wait for more.
looking good junt, we can already see the difference!!
I used to love this channel but this new guy just doesn't have the same personality of Franky. JUST KIDDING! I'm so happy for you Franky, great job! Love you guys, take care.
I don’t know why I’m so invested in old country buffet. I’m a bloke in my 40s that lives in the north of England. I have never nor will never experience ocb bur here we are. That was great.
Near the beginning of the pandemic, the OCB near me removed the Buffet from it's sign and just start going by Old Country in an attempt to sell take out food. It did not work.
This brings me back to growing up in Connecticut in the '70s. We didn't have OCB but I sure ate a hell of a lot of Howard Johnson's buffets! I still remember the day-old Jello cubes. You could throw one at full speed and it would still keep its shape. All my favorite department stores (Bradlee's, Two Guys, King's) are long gone.
My brother and I used to BEG my grandma to take us to ocb every weekend. I really miss that place, especially since we don't have any American style food buffets near me.
When I was in high school around 12 years ago me and my friends always called it OCB as well. Great memories there with them.
The green shirt guy looks kinda like John Candy.
Absolutely love this series! Great job!
Wow. I'm not familiar with OCB, but this makes me nostalgic.

Google Buffets, Inc., out of Minneapolis, MN, their Corp headquarters. OCB, Country Buffets, etc. I used to be the Marketing Manager at one just N of Seattle. Totally gross place - rat's, mice and cockroaches in the kitchen -> and I had to promote it, put on a smile when the Corporate President came to town.
I only ever went to ocb a few times and loved it, but it definitely was packed with old people that for sure was always true.
We'd always go to OCB for my grandpa's birthday. One year my cousin ate so much of the red jello from the salad bar that he barfed.

I loved old country buffet. Never heard it called OCB. The only nickname I ever heard for it were a derogatory name I can't repeat here. But I used to go at the end of breakfast to stay through lunch. They didn't care, because it was still the same concept of you can only eat so much.
We had one in Appleton Wisconsin and it too suddenly closed. We also had Golden Corral until that closed with the pandemic and hasn't opened back up yet.
Ouuu I love this kinda content! Shocked to see this very neat different style from you guys!! Love it!
Always love your content guys!
This is the kinda content I need more of on KZread. Informative and entertaining! Loved JuntSNES and love you guys ^^
This is hilarious that you threw in some clips from that old OCB training video. I found it a few years ago and watch it whenever I need a laugh.
I used to frequent the Seekonk locale
The in-hand microphone is an adorable addition. Like you're filming a local news station feature.
We called it OCB in Philly also.
Old country buffet has these huge, fatty ribs.....it was the greatest thing I ever had in my life. From the sauce to how it fell apart. I swear I coildnhave that and their jasmine rice all day everyday
3:20 - woah!
I can feel Jon's pain, showing up for breakfast only to find a sign on the door. I worked at a Hometown Buffet. They are another version of the same chain in my region. I would call Wednesday evening between 8 and 9 pm for my weekly schedule for the week. The week staring immediately that Thursday morning. I normally could count on working Thursday mornings so I did not mind SO much. Wednesday night came and unfolded as usual. Thursday @ 6:30 am I showed up. Ready as I ever was. I found a sign on the door. Paraphrasing, it said something like, "Sorry, this location has been closed. We look forward to seeing you at another location! Team members, pick up paychecks and belongings here Friday @9 am." On Friday all the employees found was another sign. Reading, "Sorry, come back Monday." I do not miss that job.
I went to an OCB somewhere in Illinois, probably way past its glory days. It was just okay. Our local American buffet spot was Ryan's. They were probably twice the size of an OCB if not more. You didn't have to get the buffet but most did. They offered steak and shrimp dinners. Closed pre-pandemic. Now it's a vocational training campus. RIP Ryan's!

In Lynchburg VA, Ryan's was the run down buffet & OCB was the good buffet.
5:00 Dude, same!! The Lechmere in Weymouth had the demo station too, I loved that thing... Sweet nostalgia
Gosh darn it...this place was my go to for their delicious chicken noodle soup and beef rib Thursdays. Sad
This makes me go to the gym
I remember on report card day if we got good grades all us kids in the neighborhood got to go to Chuck E Cheese. When we were too old for Chuck E Cheese, we got to go to the OCB.
We had a place called "JJ North's" or "North's Chuck Wagon" (the older name, I think) up in the northwest. Lots of memories piling up fried shrimp and soft serve ice cream, and making "suicide" soft drinks. Great video, as always

THIS!!! And you're right about the name changes. They had this chunky apple sauce, tasted like a really fresh version of apple pie filling. RIP Our version of mixed soft drinks were either called graveyards or swampwater.
I love a good buffet!! We have one here called Chuck A Rama that we called Upchuck Your Grandma when we were kids, we were hilarious ;) They have the best scones and honey butter and we would take them outside and climb into the covered wagon they had and eat them, pretend we were pioneers or something, I dunno. It always amazes me how much Jon knows about like literally everything! And those training videos brought me back to my Wendy's days - ha ha ha ha!
Worked as a cook, quit after a worker cut his finger n blood went into mash potato mix n they still wanted to use the mix after slightly cleaning it.
We called it ocb also in the 90s
Allllllright~
lechmere and caldor, staples of 90's new england
As someone who works at that movie theater, I can say with confidence that it was formerly a Somerville Lumber before it was a Showcase. But I'm pretty sure it was torn completely down and rebuilt. Love the new show idea. I used to like OCB, too, but we rarely went. We went to Ponderosa more when that was a thing.
I would absolutely hate being that big
Im down 10lbs since your video of how you lost weight came out. Truly inspired me to do it!

Wow, great work Joe!
Old County Buffett even as a kid I just had a disticnt feeling that this was a kind of place most....imma just say "non black" people go but for some reason i felt a type of sudden excitement when I visited this place with family. Their chicken had a distinct taste that is similar to what you would get at todays Cracker Barrell. I only knew about it because I was with family and we have family dinners here afer like, a brothers sports game and sometimes with other extended family members who just so happened to also be there! What a small world! A Small, beautiful world.
This is not the episode of Jake and the Fatman I was looking for.
About once a month in college, my roommate and I would skip lunch and got to OCB for dinner.
I loved it too. I kind of remember it being $8 at one time but maybe I'm wrong. Every time I went I told myself that I was going to have something different this time because I always went for the same old things that I liked the most, and then by time I finished those I was too full to try the new stuff. One time we went with this guy who was a friend of a friend and he wrapped some food up in a napkin and stuck it down his pants to take home. It would have been so embarrassing if he got caught. I want to say it was chicken but I can't remember exactly. And also, why did that one employee murder his boss? What was that all about?
Ah yes, American food buffets. I miss Ponderosa.😢
Alllllriiiiiggtt
Hey Guys, not sure if you'd be interested but I saw a collection of Pfaltzgraff at Gifts to Give thrift store in New Bedford. There were some interesting pieces like soup tureens/ladles.
Builder's Square... Now there's a name I haven't heard in over a decade.
We said OCB also in Wisconsin.
I haven’t been to Old Country Buffet a lot but there used to be a place near my called HomeTown Buffet which is owned by VitaNova Brands which owns Old Country Buffet, HomeTown Buffet, and Ryan’s Buffet. HomeTown Buffet is pretty much Old Country Buffet with a different name.

Yeah, we had an old country buffet in a city I used to travel to a lot for business. It was later renamed HomeTown Buffet, but it was exactly the same. Just a signage change. And I looked into it shortly after and found out it was the same company, and really the same restaurant.
I wonder if OCB is basically Golden Corral?
mmm white gravy.
Everyone has rules and ettiquete for a buffet, I see you were the ones who snagged all the crusty cheese topping ....

You can see those that eat at buffets day and night. I love them too but you got to love your health and physical conditioning more. I still enjoy them but within reason, they are not all that healthy
