Hey I actually know the movie reference! Evocative of the advancement of technology, looks like the creative team behind this music video updated the crane shot to a drone shot. @@wilkeath One visual trick they did use was filming in half speed (or something similar) to buy time for the choreography, then bumping up the speed in post to match the music. I dont fault them for it though, having thousands of people moving at the speed required at full speed would lead to accidents really easily. Half speed gives everyone twice as much time to get into position and sync their movements.

OK Go was so ahead of their time. This will always be a masterpiece.

The fact that this video only has 16 million views is disturbing. This is one of the most innovative and amazing music videos....ever. I really wish I could know how they did some of it. WOW.

Jeffry Fleischer Actually, when shooting green things, typically a blue screen is used. It'd be very very difficult to do the chroma with all this green stuff against a green screen.

AFAIK they weren't able to do splices or many takes, because the weather was so bad in Japan for weeks. It rain all the time and the drone couldn't fly in the heavy winds. They had a very small window where the sun came out for just some minutes. They did their try and succeeded. They trained parts of it indoors of course during the rain, but at the end, it was a real close call. I think you can see all of this in their making of, too.

Not only that. The vid isn't running at real speed. They record and act slow so its easier for co-ordination. Then play the vid at a faster speed. So they have a LOT of patience!

Kudos to the camera drone operator....that was an amazing job.

Not only the choreographic is crazy but also the timing to sync with the song since the speed changes all the time!

This was filmed at Long Wood Station in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. I have filmed a shoe commercial (for a shoe retailer) there. It isn't cheap, but neither is it super expensive. This is a failed shopping mall that has been retained as a film shooting studio and event space.

Yes if you watch the video they are only in zero gravity for short intervals. The choreography was written to hide this.

Still love this song. This was the song my son with autism requested often. He still loves it

watching Ok Go's video always make me emotional. Doesn't matter which one or what the song is ever about something about seeing all the effort they put into their work and all the people that they bring together to make it happen and all the thought that goes into it makes me feel big emotions. Its like imagine how proud every person who participated in something like this feels to pull something this big off. Its like they always put together a great team every time they do something like this and all I can imagine is how good it feels to be apart of something like that

I still can't believe the end bit to this day, that is just absolutely incredible. Best music video of all time.

I actually heard this song in a store the other day and I suddenly remembered "That's the song with that incredible video!" I just stayed a little longer in the store to listen to it while picturing the video☺

I can't explain what this song does to me. But from the first time I saw the video. When the umbrellas started coming In different colors I lost my damn mind !!! It was so powerful. It makes my heart smile. Makes me almost wanna cry tears of happiness . Weirdd ... Over umbrellas. Lol it's more than that though. Like the way it moves me . I'm just so happy listening !!!

I love how you can see the markings on the ground, makes it so much more real and impressive. I have a back ground in theatre and a little in film, always neat to see the work that goes into these

I just discover this video in 2024 & it's AWESOME

I love the rawness in the shots like the characters still in frame, and the position markers on the ground. I feel that it gives OK Go it's own sorta style.

These guys are just artistically genius.

I've read that there is no CGI effects when the drone went high up in the sky. That is purely the beautiful Japan sky and beyond.❤
