Oil Control Valve Replacement FRS

Комедия

How to video to replace the oil control valve on a 2015 scion frs. Had the code P000A, which indicated the passenger side intake ocv was not reading correctly. Troubleshooterd and tested ocv, and it failed. Decided to replace following Subaru guidelines. (Made video for a school project, did not expect it to get any views, sorry I tripped over my words a lot)

    Just a brief search looks like that is more of a circuit electrical issue, than an issue with the oil control valve.

    Bump! Same issue with me as of tonight, TC and Engine Light both came on at the same time, restarted my vehicle and the TC light went off shortly afterwards, maybe like 5 minutes. But my EL remains on and OBD-Reader gave me “most likely solution” as Oil Control Valve (also referred to as the VVT Solenoid).

    I just got my P0018 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 2 Sensor A) Check Engine Light and Traction Control Light are both on. I have an Automatic Transmission 2017 Toyota 86 at 60,000 miles now. I just did an oil change, took my car in to the dealership to see which sensor needed to be changed, and they told me my K&N Oil Filter is the problem... The thing is, I have been using a K&N Oil Filter for the longest time, and the check engine light came out just recently. I want to check my Crankshaft Position Sensor and my Camshaft Position Sensor. Clean them of dust/dirt/leaked oil, test their voltages, and see if I need to replace any of them, but I just do not know which sensor is which and where they are exactly located.

    Some great info in this vid! You said this was DTC P000A, right? I have a permanent P0010 error code and this video was one of the top Google results for those terms. Are these two codes related to the same underlying problem? I'm not very technical so I had a little bit of trouble keeping up with the video (particularly with the interchanging of the terms sensor, solenoid, actuator, and oil control valve). I'm just trying to figure out if my P0010 code would be fixed with the method shown in this video, or if P0010 has less to do with swapping out the entire oil control valve assembly, but rather just replacing the sensor that clips onto the housing.

  • @heatherbergmann7991

    @heatherbergmann7991

    Yeah, my bad. The technical term is oil control valve, but I typically call it a cam sensor. For p0010, it could be the oil control valve assembly on the passenger intake side, an electrical issue with that harness, an ecm issue, or the efi main 1 relay. I would start by measuring the resistance of the ocv. When warm, the resistance should be between 6.85 and 7.65 ohms. If not, then the ocv is bad and do what I did in the video.

    @@innercirclepro11 the resistance should be 6.85-7.65 ohms. So disconnect the connector, and hold both probes of the multimeter to the two prongs on the ocv. If it is out of that limit, replace it.

    @@heatherbergmann7991 awesome. I will check tonight. How about testing the sensors if the ocv check out? When the cams come on (I can see through ecutek and vvht exhaust) the car runs great. So p0011 is bank 1 intake camshaft is too advanced. Causes can be low oil or oil that has clogged the actuator, bad actuator solenoid, possibly wiring issue, or it jumped timing. I would check oil, change it, do the oil flush, clear code and see if it comes back. If it does, you can remove the solenoid and test it, and if that tests fine, start looking for a wiring issue.
