Fogerty wasn't awarded the rights, he bought a majority stake in Concord and now has control over how they are used and can once again perform his own songs without legal hassles.
CCR was so big for a period of time, such great Classics. Congratulations to John Fogerty for his long court battle in winning the rights to His music!!

This song was actually penned in 1923, and the first recorded version came in 1934 courtesy of American folk/blues singer Lead Belly. CCR's version came out in 1969 (less than 3 months after I was born!).

The song was done by the actor Harry Dean Stanton in the classic prison film "Cool Hand Luke" in 1967 so I wonder if that inspired CCR to cover it.
The Midnight Special was actually a train that passed along by a prison in Sugar Land, Texas. The light refers to the beam from the engine car passing through the prison grounds. At least that's the story. Sugar Land is a city southwest of Houston.

My father blessed me with having this music in our home when I was a child. I grew to love CCR and still listen to them to this day. Well, on the night of his death my brothers and I reminisced about our dad, and we played nothing but CCR that night, and when this song came on my eyes moistened and all of us with sad knowing smiles seemingly all seemed to say," yes this is why dad loved this music it touches the soul'. It was a glorious way to say goodbye, together. Thank you for this reaction.

Love all of John Fogerty and CCR s music!!!! All you need to hear is one note and you know who it is!!!💕💕💕 So much feeling to them!!!
Wait until you guys hear "Long As I Can See The Light"! Fogerty's voice is on another level...SOUL. Pure Soul.
My Daddy (who turned 77 today!) raised me on CCR. About 10 years ago I saw John Fogerty was having a concert a couple of hours away and got 2nd row tix for me and my Dad. Awesome concert, but my Dad isn't one to sing along or anything. Song #17 "Midnight Special"... Daddy was singing to that one! We ran into Fogerty at Disneyland a few months after we saw him at another concert years later and he talked with us for about 5 minutes or so. Quiet guy, but that made our day!
Love this song, and the TV show "Midnight Special" was EPIC! I discovered Steve Martin, Journey, Dr. Hook, Peter Frampton, CCR, and the legendary Wolfman Jack!👏👏👏

The "Midnight Special" TV show started out as an election special to get young people out to vote. NBC didn't even realize they had much of an audience after midnight. Rating services didn't tally viewership between midnight and 6 AM. It was as a result of overwhelming viewer mail that the show became a weekly series. They also quickly filled the midnight spot, Monday to Thursday with "The Tomorrow Show", with Tom Snyder. It was the beginning of late night network television. Without these breakthrough shows, there would be no "Late Night" or any of it's competitors today.
I’m a massive CCR fan!! Thanks for putting it on!!

If you watch the Movie, "Cool Hand Luke" from the mid-'60s, about a bunch of prisoners in a southern work prison, one of the inmates in the open bay barracks plays and sings this on a worn out acoustic guitar. It's an old traditional blues song.

Actually, the first time I heard this song was 1983 when I was 10 and it was in the prologue scene from "Twilight Zone: The Movie". I was fortunate to attend three CCR concerts (1970, 1971, 1972.) at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Tx., as a teen. They had everyone up, dancing and singing; this one, in particular. Doug Clifford's drumming, "bum, ba dum, bum ba dum" on "The Midnight Special" was like a call for everyone to jump up. John Fogerty (lead guitar and vocals), Tom Fogerty (underrated rhythm guitarist with a voice much like his younger brother's), and Stu Cook (excellent bass guitarist) set the house on fire. The Coliseum was situated on or near Buffalo Bayou, as I recall, and had a cavernous interior and echo chamber effect that carried the music outside to the streets--my parents who took us and came to pick us up from these concerts attested to that fact. The location made it extra special when they launched into "Born On The Bayou". Houston is known as "The Bayou City".
Just call them “Creedence”, that’s what everyone called them back in the day.
How do you not love that? That's just good music.
When I was about 14 we had 8 tracks. I listened to CCR so much I wore out 3 of their greatest hits 8 tracks! 🤣
There's a few great versions of this song and this is among the best. I first heard it by Harry Belafonte in 1962 when I was 14 years old and I loved it. Little did I know that the guy playing harmonica on the song would become one of my greatest music heroes a short time later, Bob Dylan!
"Bad Moon Rising", "Heard it Through the Grapevine", "Have You Ever Seen the Rain", "Fortunate Son"
Leadbelly wrote this song from the Central Unit of the Texas Department of Corrections just West of Houston, Texas in the 1950s.

Ther guys were actually out of san Francisco in the 60's, another great but forgotten group from there was sly and the family stone.innovators of all you are listening to. Sly may have actually penned the first rap song in 73 or 74 from the fresh alblum.his last hit.it was called if you want me to stay.hall of fame who destroyed his life with drugs.
One of my favourite CCR songs, thank you both. Also recommend their "Someday never comes".
I partied in the day of Creedance Clearwater Revival. Good to be there at the time, it was the best!
CCR there music has a sound that will never get old.
John Fogerty grew up in El Cerrito California near Berkeley. He may have been drawn to music from the South, including blues and country but his roots were West coast. Many bands in the 60's and 70's didn't stick to one specific genre. Jerry Garcia played blue grass and Bob Dylan had a great album called Nashville Skyline.

Eddie Rabbitt - I Can't Help Myself written and recorded by Eddie Rabbitt. released in April 1977 as the first single from the album Rabbitt.
Written and recorded in the early 20's, Lead belly, the iconic Bluesman recorded it. Many versions exist, but this is the one most known.
My daddy showed me all good music, when I was so young, I LOVE CCR!
It’s amazing how much great music and impact they had in just the few short years they were recording together. Their sound will live forever

Definitely my favorite CCR song!!! It’s featured prominently on the Twilight Zone movie…THAT is one flick y’all should check out. Such a badass movie & song 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Its a song about a train that passed by a prison and if its light shown on you, it meant you were getting out.
Who Dey?! 🏈🐯🏈 Winners, dat's who!!!
Congratulations on the Bengals win today! On to the Super Bowl! Always love Amber's reactions to songs - both her actual analysis and her grooving with the tunes!
You guys MUST hit the long (8:40 m) version of "Suzie Q". I just searched your history, and I don't see it. "Suzie Q" was their break-out hit and it really and truly is a masterpiece. The long version is just to die for. It has the most amazing hook and rhythm that you've EVER heard. Nobody had ever done anything like it. The long version sets up a groove that wraps its arms around you and you gently guides you into the sauce -- where you stay lost and comfortable until the end. It is just marvelous regardless of your state of consciousness, and works really well after a little bit of -- well, you get my drift.
Super Song from CCR, my best Song from CCR is Pagan Baby, super Fogerty sing an guitarplay, Spezial Tip !!! Greetings from Germany

Everytime i hear this i think of Dan Akroyd in the Twilight Zone movie..............you wanna see something really scary!!
You really need to listen to them doing "Keep on Chooglin". You will not be disappointed, trust me!
Listening to this (and his other stuff) you would never know that he was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in El Cerrito (East (San Francisco) Bay Area, where I'm from!). As Amber says, he sounds like he's from the Bayou! Love the groove on this. Shout out to Lead Belly, who wrote and played this. This arrangement is awesome!
CCR music has a way of reviving me! Been a fan since 1972.
Alright man! Everything they've ever done! You have picked pure excellence in my humble opinion! 🤟🤟👍👍

Would you do the Beatles Helter skelter?
The Bengals dropped a Midnight Special on the Bills! Complete Domination! Who Dey!
The Late Great Muddy Waters and Johnny 'Guitar" Watson wrote and played the original. CCR asked those 2 personally for permission to cover this song. One condition, just respect the true meaning of the song. And as you hear, CCR put some respect on that song.
The story takes place on the Central Unit, in Sugarland, TX. When the midnight train came through, legend has it that if the trains light hit you, you'd be the next one to be released...

This song is in the opening of the movie, The Twilight Zone, with Dan Akryod. I'm pretty sure, it's been a few decades since I've seen it.
