Oddworld Lore: Morguer

Ойын-сауық

Oddworld Lore: Morguer is a video about Oddworld lore by pupbenny that takes a closer look at the Glukkon in charge of Necrum Mines in Oddworld Soulstorm.
Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

Morguer seems slick and dangerous when he is glaring at others. But when he talks, you see that he still has those wide blunt teeth that all Glukkons have. Just like how when he turns around, his general shape is still Glukkon even if from the front he is unique looking. Still the same species but Morguer is the rare Glukkon who looks intimidating rather than goofy. (Glukkons are dangerous but usually look silly even when in charge of exploiting and genociding the other species.)

@@landonletterman831 Exactly my point. Glukkons are enslaving the Mudokons, mistreat Sligs and other employees and destroy ecosystems. They are dangerous and the effects of their actions are horrifying and scary. ...But they themselves are silly little things that walk on their hands that are disguised as feet, barely do anything with their own hands(feet?) and instead just boss others and are nearly harmless without bodyguards to command. If a killer clown is turning something that is supposed to be silly into a thing of horror, then Glukkons are a horrifying and powerful thing turned into something silly. And Morguer had so much potential (though maybe he survived having taken cover behind Aslik?) as a rare serious threat rather than just an arrogant business boss coasting on the work of others.

With how he didn’t believe the news about Mullock I would’ve loved to see them perhaps team up or perhaps have him be the key to giving Mullock a chance to prove his innocence. Plus with how practical he is he could’ve been a very strong threat to Abe throughout the entire game. Also, stiffing your own security detail? I know he’s a Glukkon, but that just feels a bit too out-of-character.

It's still theoretically possible for Morguer to make a comeback. I mean, if Mullock was able to survive a direct hit from a _lightning bolt,_ Morguer might be able to survive a few bullets. Or maybe Morguer lucked out and didn't get shot at all (or maybe only got grazed) and just played dead until the rogue Sliggies left. Edit: I just now thought of something. When the Brewmaster tells Morguer and Aslik that they've been betrayed, it's possible that by doing so, he was giving them (and himself) an out. I mean, _someone_ was going to have to be blamed for all this, and the Brewmaster is the most likely suspect in this case. So Morguer's instinctive reaction to confront the Brewmaster was likely just the beginning of a wave of investigations. But when the Brewmaster insists that Mullock "betrayed" them, it allows for them to shift the blame back onto him. Like you said in your original video on the Brewmaster, he knows his Brew inside-and-out; he knows damn well it wouldn't randomly stop working without good reason. And the story he told Morguer and Aslik was almost certainly his own theory, which (if you didn't know about Abe himself), would make a lot of sense. It was probably also something of a relief for Morguer and Aslik to believe that they didn't have to blame the terrifying (and still very powerful) Brewmaster for all this ruckus, and could instead pin it on the already-maligned Mullock.

He seemed like a wasted character. It would have been better if he was the sole Glukkon who didn't believe in the nonsense and left Soulstorm Brewery with his (actually loyal) Sligs before Aslik and the Brewmaster gets gunned down. Also I feel like a practical and no-nonsense person like Morguer wouldn't be the type to not pay his security force on time. I feel like he'd be smart enough to realize that screwing over a bunch of guys with guns when you're literally and figuratively unarmed is a stupid idea.

He does come across as someone who should know well enough to pay his own guards to keep them loyal. The slig more or less are only loyal because they might be treated well. But in this situation the betrayal is shaky since both him and the brew master are in a better position at the time. The comparisons to Imperial officer extras is pretty apt I'd say. If you look at Mulloc, the base form of glukkon design, and compare him to Azlic and Morguer, they basically represent the two ends of the glukkon spectrum. Personality wise, Azlic is lazy, haughty, and in his high standing aloof to all the practical concerns of the cartel's business until they start to whack him in the face. Appearance wise, where glukkons typically have loose saggy skin and flopping cephalopod appendages, Azlic has even more exxagerated floppy lips and wide, saggy eyes along with his curved mantle almost dripping down. Inversely, Morguer almost looks like he has a skull supporting his rigid, almost humanoid facial structure, and even has those hardy studs on his head. Being more practically minded and stern contrasts him from his peer, and if that attire does mean he prefers to directly monitor and maintain his business from the ground level it indicates just how seriously he takes his work ethic.

These vids are always awsome and a big part of why i love these games I've never even played. I'm doing Scifi DnD, and I definitely plan on baseing my story on the Oddworld games, offering if any of them want to play as one of the races. If they choose to be outsiders, they will have to decide to either help liberate the Mudokons or take a fat pay day from the Magog Cartel. Who knows, maybe a Stranger or Pale Slig will show up along the way!

I agree, the contrast between a brief somber moment of his personality and the prolonged grumpy presidential caricature is ironic! What a huge change of tone they gave to the Saga! I love it but at the same time it worries me! Despite brutal statements, it is a catalyst for greater depth!!! What a redundancy!

Some people: "Why does the plant blow up in the *BAD* ending? Why do they not get rid of that place in the GOOD ending?" Me: That plant supplies brew, a drink that they'll all perish without, to every factory still "employing" mudokins. If that plant goes away, the production of brew (tainted with the cure) goes bye bye, and all of them don't get the cure, on top of the supply ceasing all together.

@@Morgomir09 some part of me likes to think that a race who can help design cyborg limbs could make/fund an "emergency shut off valve" for something, especially pipes carrying a volatile liquid, to prevent an accident (train crash along the pipeline, accident at any of the connected facilities) from back feeding the line and _destroying it all!_ Case in point, Rupture Farms exploded, and they were either: A) Not connected B) Recognized as a rapidly approaching problem as it happened, and cut off manually or C) The very example of "emergency shut off valves" I speak to, above. Still, even if the fire doesn't make it, _shutting off the "brew" supply would be bad enough!_

@@Morgomir09 word, we're talking about a volatile chemical plant going up. You don't need to live near one of those (like I do) to know that could ruin 1/3 of this country if let go up catastrophically (water table polluting seeping into the general area, and the noxious cloud of gas spreading for everyone else!) Edit: We're talking a good chunk of land tainted, here, and spreading until contained. I would also venture that the real life chemical plant is only _a quarter the size_ of the Brewmaster's operation!
