My dude, 8:40 @mojoplays You're wrong about spectacle rock. Spectacle Rock made its first appearance in Zelda 1 NES. It's the literal entrance to the last dungeon.
You just so casually throw in “a reference to Pikachu” without any backing and with so much confidence I can kinda get how you never questioned it since being a kid. But for future videos, I don’t think doing a little research on these asides is a bad idea.

I don't think it's "wrong" though, I think they designed the kitsune mask to resemble Pikachu, as well as the yōkai trickster foxes from traditional Japanese folklore. Just like how Eggman is based on Mario _and_ former president Theodore Roosevelt, things can be a reference to more than one thing you know.
I wonder how many people realize that Spectacle Rock in Ocarina of Time is effectively the roof of the Fire Temple?

The gerudo guards changing outfits with Link is most likely the game pulling the color of both from the same bit of code. It is interesting that nobody noticed it or cared enough to change it, even in subsequent revisions, but it's likely it was one of those bugs that "fixing" would have caused more unintended consequences than it was worth
The Keaton mask isn't a Pikachu reference. It's a Kitsune.

I think kitsune is right. by the time MM came out, Keaton, Bremen, Bunny Hood, Don Gero and Scents were supposed to represent Fox McCloud, Falco, Peppy, Slippy, and the pig character (forget his name, never played Star Fox.😅)
Damn who pulled off those crazy moves in the Hidden Village for Twilight Princess?
So the Keaton mask is likely not based on Pikachu at all. I have found nothing to confirm this from the developers. Rather, it's based on a kitsune. Kitsune are fox spirits in Japanese mythology who possess cunning and wisdom. They're also known as tricksters. This is reinforced in Majora's Mask, because you find the actual spirit the mask was made to resemble. Another reference for the mask is hidden in plain sight in Majora's Mask. The Keaton mask may be part of a reference to the Star Fox franchise (which has ties to the 3D games as an Arwing can be found in the code for Ocarina of Time). The Keaton mask represents Fox The Bremen mask represents Falco The Bunny Hood represents Peppy Don Gero's mask represents Slippy And lastly, the Mask of Scents represents Pigma.

The Twilight Princess palace extra key is something I found on my first playthrough. You only need one key in the palace, to get inside. However, there are two keys outside. Once you get the first the player would usually burst in and climb only to learn there's a locked door next to the final boss door. The map reveals lots of chests behind it, but unless you went to the bottom again and knew the OTHER side also had a small key you'd likely not know how to get in.

Yeah, it may not have been _everybody,_ but I think a _majority_ of players (as in over 50%) who make it to the end of the game are inquisitive enough to find this secret. Even if they aren't skilled enough to find it themselves, I'm sure it was posted to GameFAQs within hours of release. There's no possible way this took "years" to find.
If anyone remembers the Nintendo Badge Arcade on 3DS, the host bunny was also named Baito for the same reason. And the Japanese word "Arubaito" is a loanword from German, which I believe is "Arbeit". That's especially interesting since the The Wind Waker's Japanese title ("Takt of Wind") also has a German loanword, with "Taktstock" being the word for a conducting baton.
I like the "unorthodox item usage pays off" angle programmed into several boss battles. The Forest Water is a prime example, following the Bug-Catching Net deflecting Agahnim's spells (LttP) and bottles deflecting Ganondorf's spells (OoT). There's also the bit in OoT's Spirit Temple where a statue of a Gerudo can be targeted with the Hookshot only on her nipples. And similarly to the guards' clothes in OoT, Zelda's dress in the first game changed color with Link's tunic (clearly saving memory by mapping them to the same palette).
@rwinslowbutler

Also, in Twilight Princess, during the final stage of the Ganon fight (face to face with Ganondorf) you can distract his attention by casting the fishing line. His eyes will follow the hook.
Yo one that I like is that in Ocarina of Time if you hold out a deku stick near a butterfly, if the butterfly lands on it it turns into a fairy. But I remember struggling in the Igos Du Ikana boss fight, and I never realized you could just make his minions march around.
The ZELDA letters in the second quest were obvious from the get-go. I remember watching my brothers play it when I was 5 and it was the biggest thing we talked about.
The hidden room in OoT Ganon's castle and MM Bremen Mask song working on the king's guards blows my mind.
in addition: 'Arubaito' is the japanese version of the German word 'Arbeit' which also means 'job / work'
@MrNgMichael
13 күн бұрын
no idea how that german word became a Japanese loaner word that became part time work, instead of just "job/work"

12 күн бұрын
@@MrNgMichaelIt likely got warped as time went on and got reinterpreted... Like how "yankee" which referred to Americans later became "yanki" which is now known as "delinquent" Or alternatively, the loanword can get misinterpreted, like the word "kamikaze" is usually interpreted as a suicide attack in the west, but it's really Japan praying to their wind god for success. That "wind god" being the one they personified after a storm helped drive away invaders in Japan's early history... Twice.

Yep, I figured that out as a kid, I interpreted it as sneaking around them while they're "asleep", or maybe them hearing something slowly walking around makes them think it's one of their own... And get alerted if it's loud footsteps of something relatively speedy, AKA; something alive.
Many know about using a bottle to face Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. I discovered the Bug Net works with Aghanim in A Link to the Past BEFORE I learned that the Master Sword worked. The Hammer works as well.
The fact that one of the images on the thumbnail is just one of the small key chests in the well really kills the video's credibility and makes me feel like it is not worth watching.

I was expecting these to be crummy secrets everybody knows, but no... you chose well. slight clarification: Arbheit is a German word. and while Ki-tan is a riff on popular mascot characters including pokémon, he's a kitsune, not a direct reference to pikachu. Kitsune were yellow with black-tipped ears before videogames were invented ;3
The Keaton mask is not a reference to Pikachu. It’s a reference to the Japanese kitsune or three tailed fox…
19 of 20 I never knew about! As for the water on the plant boss in Wind Waker, you kinda spoiled that in the past. Huh... MojoPlays To the Past!
I think the ones where they're comparing the characters appearance to other characters in a different Zelda game is kind of stretching it a little bit but all of that other stuff I already knew about.
A lot of these "secrets" we knew when the games came out. Especially the last example given.
The Hylian book title in The Minish Cap isn't actually "Triumph Forks", but it's likely a reference to that. It uses the same kind of word-corruption that turns "Triforce" into "Triumph Forks", by turning トライフォース (Toraifo-su / "Triforce") into タヤイとホース (Tarai to Ho-su / "Tub and Hose"). So it's more like the Japanese equivalent of the "Triumph Forks" joke.

the lipstick changing colors is probably because they just used a statement to consistently refer back to the value of links tunic initially and planned to change it later but when they went to. Couldn't :p
Funfakt the japanese name in minute 8 cames from the german word Arbeiten it means working. Japan got many words form other countries. For example Ruckusaku (Rucksack) is german to it means backpack.
I actually found the ganon's castle one with the lens of truth just because I accidentally ran through the wall and got curious
Also the japanese word"Arubaito" is actually german and means work (Arbeit)
I already knew the last one in Ganon's Castle.
