Not Even Dell Uses This Cooler Like This...

Ғылым және технология

I use the cooler that comes on most OEM Pre-Built gaming PCs with the hottest running CPU I have. Things got a bit spicy.

In my early overclocking days I would lay a desktop with it's panels off on top of a square house fan then put another house fan on the top of the case, seal the sides and stand the contraption back up next to a window ac unit pulling cold air through the whole system. To be honest, I never knew that Tjmax values could be adjusted on certain model of motherboards. Thank you, gonna tell this to my friend cause his PC cpu's throttling even before reaching 70°C,and both me and him ain't no computer expert.

@Groobs Well, me and my friend are have retard level IQ about PC's, but we're going to check his BIOS setting anyways in a few days. He bought NZXT parts and assembled himself, using NZXT website as the build guide. To make things worse, this is his first DIY PC.This are his parts. MB: NZXT N7 Z590 CPU: i9-10900k GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 UG PSU:EVGA Supernova 850W Gold Cooler:NZXT Kraken X73 (fan top mounted) Case:NZXT H710i (I tried to stop him using low airflow cases, but he won't listen) We're too focused checking on the hardware side (swap psu's/thermal paste/cpu cooler/case fans/checking the connections and wires etc) , but never even thought of checking the BIOS except for enabling XMP. Hope BIOS setting was the cause. I felt sorry this happened on his first DIY PC.

@Groobs I tried my best to stop him from going full NZXT but failed. Ambient room are around 25C to 30C, Cpu's idle temp around 35C~45C When gaming, the clocks ranges from 4ghz~5ghz, but abruptly clocks down to 3.8~3.7Ghz when reaching 70C onwards, don't know if that's normal or not. I tested his Kraken X73 on my PC and my god, it's good (compared to my air cooler, a cooler master MA612).

I have one of those cpus. I absolutely love it. Though, even with a 3 fan aio it still runs at almost thermonuclear temperatures under load.

I have a SFF 9020 Optiplex I whacked a 4790k in... using this cooler. Highest spike temp I've seen under synthetic load is 94 degrees. Fan ramps up rather strangely at times, though. Like if I fire up Overwatch, it is fine, but if I fire up Overwatch, close it, then open it again, it sounds like it's running the delta fan.

I can't believe that this was the exact cooler installed on my HP Omen i7 Gaming Desktop lol. On top of that the case has horrible airflow. I nicknamed that computer the Easy Bake Omen. It would get instantly into the 90's and thermal throttle. After installing more case fans and a Noctua air cooler I was able to keep the temps down enough to keep the throttling at bay. Eventually I got fed up with the Omen and used what parts I could from it and swapped them into a new case. I'd never never go back to a prebuilt.

You should try gaming with just that loud fan and no heatsink at all. I'm guessing the temps will be similar.

I tried overclocking my i5 10600K to 5.0 GHz on a Gigabyte Z590 motherboard with an ID Cooling tower cooler(similar to a Hyper 212) + Arctic P12 PWM fan. Testing with cinebench, temps would shoot above 100C in HW monitor and the PC would cutoff and restart.

See, as per my knowledge, unlocked processors cannot crash, yeah, they can only crash if they drop to very low frequency, but I think there is no thermal overload protection on unlocked processors

When I was a total noob I built a computer that ran 105-115 all the time.🤦🏾‍♂️ It was a Conroe Core 2 Duo E6600 in a home theater pc build. Very popular in the 2006. I Used the stock cooler but the case had little ventilation and it was in an entertainment enclosure🤦🏾‍♂️ Ran like that for 3 mos no issues. I never gamed on it so I never watched the temps.
