After testing with an 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB kit of DDR4, how do a couple games perform at this point in 2023? Well surprisingly, 8GB is enough but there are quite a few issues...
Test System Specs:
- Intel Core i5-13600k (5.4GHz-P, 4.0GHz-E)
- Corsair H150i 360mm AIO
- Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4
- 16GB 3200MT/s TimeTec DDR4
- 32GB 3600MT/s Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
- 64GB 3600MT/s GSkill DDR4
- Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition
- WDB SN770 1TB PCIe 4.0 for games
- Samsung 970 Evo 1TB PCIe 3.0 for OS/Boot
- 650W EVGA PSU
- Resizable BAR was Turned ON for testing
Building a Budget PC can be tough. Not only are GPUs and CPUs so incredibly expensive, but they can be hard to find on a budget... But, there are tips and tricks to finding you your dream Budget GPU, and pairing it with a CPU that will give you the performance you want!

I recently upgraded to 32 gigs. i'm sure 16 will be fine for a good while still, but RAM is cheap enough now to justify the upgrade, and to future-proof your memory a bit

Just buy when you actually need it. It ain't future proof if the component price keep dropping. The moment you actually need it you might be able to get it for cheaper.
8GB is fine if you are still gaming at 720p resolution. Otherwise, go 16GB minimum or 32GB if you aren't on a tight budget. I ended up going 64GB (4x16GB) on my latest 1440p build simply because the 2 empty memory slots on my motherboard triggered some latent OCD. :)

Game resolution use VRAM, not normal RAM. It's almost unaffected.

I went from 8gb of ram to 32gb. If you’re only goal with your computer is to do productivity (ie word processing and schoolwork) with some light gaming on the side then 8gb of ram is ok, just with gaming don’t have anything else open as for me it caused pretty heavy stuttering in moderately demanding games from 4-5 years ago. I’d say 16gb of ram is still the minimum you should have in 2024 but if you plan on playing modern games and want to future proof your pc 32gb is what I’d recommend.

@@RachelAn3 no worries, what I'm saying is general so if your budget allows I'd say go for 32gb of DDR4 RAM. But if you are on a bit of a tighter budget 16gb of DDR4 RAM is perfectly fine still in 2024 depending on what you like to play. If you can only get 8gb I'd recommend going for a stick of RAM that has a high clock speed (ie something at or above 3200mhz if possible) and eventually you could try getting the same 8gb stick of RAM at the same clock speed to then have 16gb of RAM.

Yeah I have 16 gb of ram and at first when I upgraded it in 2021 it was fine but now the current games cause my computer to stutter and at times skip frames despite being “smooth” so I believe I have to now upgrade my ram

I’d say 12 is the minimum for lighter gaming. Makes a huge difference compared to 8, but most likely cheaper then 16

32gb ddr5 5600-6000 is the way to go in 2024 if you are thinking of upgrading ram
Good enough for a short 👍
I never understood how more ram can be detrimental aside from it costing more. 16GB is ok, 32GB just to not worry about RAM for next 5 years or so, I don't see how 64GB ram would hurt performance tho.

Too much ram is not detrimental to a pc. It can be a waste of money though
My 16*3gb RAM Not enough for me😂
Im not running any apps except the browser, which has 10 pages open (1 FB and 9 YT). According to task manager, the browser use 2,7GB RAM, and the whole system is using a little over 10GB RAM. How anyone can run games on 8GB RAM is beyond my understanding. Maybe it would help if i restart my computer - but i got 64GB DDR5 RAM, so i dont need to 😁

Because there’s zero way to dual channel 48 gb as no one sells kits of 24 x 2. So now your performance is worse because you’re using an uneven amount of ram. If you have 48 gb I would downgrade to 32 gb with 16x2 or upgrade to 64 with 32x2
