Inventing is all about creating things from the designs and plans of previous inventors. Since usually no one person can create a ground braking device all by their selves with no help from anyone else, usually inventors base their perfected designs off the rough designs of precursors. Thomas Edison may not have invented the light bulb, but he did perfect it and made it practical.
