I'm seriously wondering what Kubrick would've done with an Adam Sandler movie.

I really hate those people who go on this review and other robin williams movie reviews that NC has made, to complain about how daug should get hit by a truck and feel bad about these. why should he? these are done YEARS before robin died. its not even about these reviews, its because people are hypocrites. their macabre public mourning is not for the dead actor, its for them selves. and thats why they feel need to bash anyone who has ever said anything bad about the dead actor.

I honestly liked this movie a lot. I still do. The criticism about him sleeping with a doll, even at age 10, or sleeping with his parents, while not typical of 10 year olds...his parents coddle him. Treat him like he's even younger than he is. They are protective, and likely didn't follow typical parenting to break such habits. He's their boy, with a rare affliction, and they are trying to keep him young, despite his physically aging body. Yes, the plot is strange. But I don't get the hate for it. It's not bad by any means. His response to the principle were outlandish, yes. Because he has no social skills, Critic. He's been cooped up in his damn house all his life.

4:16: To be fair, NC, I think it's most likely that because Jack was sheltered throughout most of his life, him wearing pajamas and having a teddy bear while being 10 years old (while looking like a 40 year old) isn't really that much out of the ordinary for this 10 year old, considering his age and how he was raised. I agree with the rest of your criticism of the movie though.

The preacher at Jonathan Creek church camp had a daughter with an affliction like this. She grew at an accelerated rate. When I went, about 10 years ago, she was 7, but her body had aged to the point that she looked like a 17 year old. However, even though she physically matured at a much faster rate, she mentally and emotionally matured at a slower rate. If this is the same affliction that Jack has, then it explains why he was so much different than other 10-year-olds.

  • @KnightsaysNi

I don't think I'd classify that as a "doll", more like a "stuffed animal". Which I suppose could be called a "stuffed animal doll", but that's really splitting hairs. Besides, don't most guys refer to dolls as "action figures"? I also knew plenty of 10 year olds who wore pajamas; or at least got popular character themed pajamas for Christmas and/or their birthday every year. If Nana buys it for you, your parents will make d@mn sure you wear it.

Love seeing Stimpy (of Ren and.. fame on Nickelodeon) in his doll form in his 1990s heydey, even if at the end and after Nick terminated it, in Robin's arms. But Doug's right about a 10 year old having this..it's one thing that adult Robin Williams acts like a 10 year old..then even YOUNGER....? This reminds me of F.Scott FitzGerarld's "Benjamin Button" (which, twelve years after Jack, and ten years after Robin Williams's Patch Adams and What Dreams may Come (both from 1998), in 2008 got made into a Brad Pitt moive), because of reverse aging, y'know.. [[blah]]..enjoy the holiday seasons, friends!

Robin Williams was an incredible actor and comedian. The Nostalgia Critic never said anything contrary to that. Movies like Jack, Flubber and especially Patch Adams shows how much directors and screen writer can mess up someone's brilliant career. The NC says at the beginning of most of reviews how Robin Williams is a talented performer, but the problem came from these lazy, confused and awkward scripts. He doesn't criticize Williams acting, but his lines or what he is forced to do by people who don't understand the man's gifts. When you give Robin Williams the opportunity to truly act, you get movies like the Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. When you don't, Jack happens. It's the system that's at fault, not the actor. And I think the NC has always appreciated that.

Look, Robin Williams being dead does not make the Critic a terrible person for criticizing his performance in movies. Whether Williams is dead or alive has no effect whatsoever on whether this or Patch Adams or Flubber is a crappy movie. Yes, it might seem like the Critic is showing disrespect for the dead, but think about it: these reviews were done *before* Robin Williams died. How can they show disrespect for the dead if the subject of concern was alive at the time? Unless the Critic is a time-traveling monster who looked into the future, saw that Robin Williams was going to die, and then wrote negative reviews for his movies simply because of that, I don't think he did a single thing wrong. We all need to remember, he only critiqued Williams' acting in some of his films; he never actually insulted him as a person.

Well... this is kinda awkward... On one hand we have a mediocre movie trying to desperately play on our heartstrings with a leading role by a recently dead actor that was good and likeable in his core... on the other hand we have a several years old movie review by an indie comic, that cynically points out major flaws in the most insensitive way possible... Look... I'm pretty sure Doug liked R. Williams as an actor. Heck... he even said it in some of his Nostalgia Critic reviews. NC had no idea this man would commit suicide YEARS LATER after this satirical sketch, so please contain your comments to a reasonable level... thanks.

Exactly. Besides, there's no reason you can't talk about dead people. Robin Williams was a fantastic actor, but he picked some bad movies. Simple as that.

Insult comedy and black comedy is insulting by default. NC's criticisms of Jack are valid and make sense - Robin's trying so hard to be perfect and innocent that it just makes him look moronic; Robin's actions don't make sense even for a highly-sheltered 10-year-old kid.

Yeah, the idea, has potential, I mean, Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome is a real disorder-though it's very different to how the film portrays it. Which wouldn't be a huge issue considering when the film was made and the people that would have wanted to see it, but Williams doesn't play him like a ten year old as NC points out, it wouldn't have been that difficult for Williams to actually spend time with his younger co-stars and take on their traits, like Tom Hanks did in Big.

And here comes the morons that say "Doug should feel bad for making fun of Robin Williams" This is like Michael Jackson all over again when Williams was alive, it didn't matter if we made fun of the BAD movies he was in. But now that he's gone, it's like, a sin to even make fun of a bad movie he was even in I'm greatly upset that Robin Williams had pass away in the most tragic way possible and he's a comedic gold, but even the most talented actors and actresses are in BAD movies, and we will make fun of them even if the actor/actress is dead or not. Robin Williams was in good movies, but also bad ones, just like every other actor, right? that is all.
