Like you, I grew up on the NIV. I think I had the 1984 update. I still love it to this day, though I have switched to NKJV for my daily reading. I grew up with this cover around the house. Floods of nostalgia. Thanks for highlighting it!
I was raised on the KJV, but as soon as I got a Living Bible for christmas around 73/74 I read that until the NKJV came out around 82. I read many translations now, but the Living Bible still holds a special place in my heart as I read that daily as teenager. The NLT took it's place these days, but I still go back. Thanks for sharing

I eventually got over my youthful suspicion of The Living Bible. I mean, at least it's not The Message. (Joking! I'm joking!)
Also nostalgic from the 80s: that shade of brown in everything from wall paneling to ash trays and Bible covers! The NIV was huge in my church too but I also haven't stuck with it.

Seems like you maybe had this exact Bible and showed it on your channel. Or do I misremember?

@@ma-mo I definitely remember something like this, might have been an NKJV though. But definitely the same era and aesthetic!

And maybe the ubiquity of ash trays explains why everything was brown: not because the tobacco tar coated everything (which it certainly did) but because decorators just accepted that and made everything brown from the start.
...here I am, stuck in the middle with you...

On second thought, count me among the jokers.

I'd say, at this point, I definitely still read the KJV more than any other version. And since no one is forcing me ... Must be the KJV! Runner's up: RSV, ESV, Jerusalem.
Do you ever get into fountain pens?

I've owned one fountain pen in my life: a cheap Hero my mother bought me, which was a quite capable pen. My daughter owns it now, and still uses it, though she has collected many more expensive pens. I accompanied my daughter to the Ohio Pen Show last fall, and it was fun. But for me, I'm probably sticking with pencils. I
