    If you're going to zoom out on Ruth, don't forget who Moab was. Back during the Israelite's journey through the wilderness it was the king of Moab who hired Balaam to curse the Israel (the whole talking donkey scene) and when he could only bless them, Balaam told the king of Moab that he could get the Israelites to curse themselves by lining the road with all the hottest babes in his kingdom and seducing the men of Israel into committing adultery. And even before that, Moab is descended from Lot (Abraham's nephew). After the whole Sodom and Gamorra thing, Lot's two daughters despaired of getting husbands and so they got Lot super drunk and slept with him. That's Moab. And yet, if you flip to Matthew chapter 1, there's Ruth the Moabite listed by name in the genealogy of Jesus. God can take the ugliest and dirtiest people and redeem them and do amazing and beautiful things.

    When I first read the Bible straight through, I came upon the incest of Lot and his daughters. I was so freaked out that I put my Bible down for a few days before I picked it up and started reading it again. Yes, the storey of Ruth is amazing, especially when you read Matthew 1.

    @@stevenward3856 oh wow, wait so the part of Ham sleeping with and impregnating (possibly rape?) the wife of Noah while Noah was drunk didn't bother you...why Canaan was cursed but Lots daughters repeating the same type thing did? Why was that more upsetting I wonder? Or maybe you didn't understand it because the explanation of to "uncover the nakedness of the father" is explained later and most people assume Ham had the same mother as his brothers or that Noah's wife was the mom to a son when that is not actually stated. .Well I hope you figured it out later that Lot's daughters probably got the idea from hearing about Ham and from desperation. . Anyway, this stuff repeats itself a whole lot, the people.of the Bible do some odd things because of rules and culture like Tamar and Judah, but she wasn't so low as it seems she let him have a choice about how to handle his child with her, the issue, until she couldn't and was desperate too. It happens over and over because people do dumb and despicable things when they are envious, afraid or desperate. Ham was envious and the unmarried daughters of Lot were desperate. They had no protection if Lot died is what they were taught from that city. Sin comes in many forms and we all have it messing with our spirit and decisions. We are totally wicked, even the most moral is still corrupted by God's standards and we must have a Savior and Kinsmen Redeemer in Christ. Thank God He provides!!!

  • @stevenward3856

    @stevenward3856

    Жыл бұрын

    @@amandachilds5290 I'm not sure what type of bible you are reading where Ham had performed incest with his own mother, but it is incorrect. Ham only looked upon his father's nakedness and told his brothers. They went in and covered him up without looking upon him. After the Flood, brothers had to marry sisters or cousins to repopulate the earth. Canaan was cursed by Noah because the curse would come back on his father, Ham. If Noah had cursed Ham, he would have been cursing himself. Following the creation of the Mosaic Law, the population of the earth was getting to where the genome was becoming more fragile, and there were risks involved with cousins and siblings getting so involved. David was not as involved with his many children through wives and concubines to the point that Tamar was tricked and then raped by her half-brother, and David didn't do anything about it. Absalom, her full brother, took matters into his own hands, which I will not get into. As far as Lot and his daughters go, I read this when I was much younger, and it surprised me because it was the first time that I found out about it, and nothing else. It was merely anecdotal and nothing more. Be careful about reading into the text something that isn't there. And be thankful that you have been corrected in love. If you are familiar with Sigmund Freud's theories on sexualities, he once said when someone asked what the meaning was with the cigar which he was smoking "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." You may not have a grasp on what is metaphysical and what is not. Scholars who get into the nitty-gritty of the Bible are usually schooled in the original Hebrew and Greek, as well as the meanings of words and phrases common to the period of when they were written..

    yeah, not everything. its more like a lot of things are connected, then there are a second cluster of another lot of things that are connected but not connected to the first cluster and then there are many clusters such as these and what thsi does is it allows for conflict of stories and the purpose of this conflict is that it allows for people like you to put your 2 cents worth and make up the connection between them when no connection exists. so some things in the bible are connected, sure, but it also doesn't mean just because they are connected that they are factual there is always one big point that christians always WANT to overlook no matter what THE BIBLE IS NOT GOD'S WORD it is literally a sin to follow it and yet at the risk of their own salvation they still do Now, isn't that weird

  • @nataliejones-eq1og

    @nataliejones-eq1og

    Жыл бұрын

    @@martinkuliza There are many different ways to connect things in the Bible. Some are obvious but others are more subtle one thing we know by reading the bible is that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, that is true from the Old Testament through the new and now. We also know that through the entire Bible the Lords people are saying the same thing, turn from your evil ways and turn to God or there will be consequences for your actions. The Bible is the inerrant Word of God and He said in his word that "If you love me you will follow my commandments", His commandments are in the Bible however following them will not save your soul from hell. You must be saved through grace by faith and choose to follow Him. The Lord Jesus Christ took all sin on himself so that we could gain salvation because the wages of sin is death. Since the Lord cannot sin nor would he command us to sin by following his commandments, following the Bible cannot be sin or cause you to lose your salvation. If the Bible were just some book and not the Lord's Word, Christians would have nothing because the word teaches people how to live godly life that honors God, by God himself.

    The more I dig into the bible, into context, history, into deeper understanding, into connections between the books of the bible, the more fascination I feel, including the awareness that we always can learn more and how awesome it is that those old scriptures are still so important and up to date in their wisdom for us modern people and always will be. It definitely does my soul good to find your content and how you share your joy to discover the bible.

    I’m 74. Retired fireman I wake up early with a lot of pain usually about four. I turn to the Bible and even though in pain I praise his name. I was blessed with a job. I always wanted that was a Firemen but with that job comes a lot of injuries. Anyway, enough about me. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge your anxiousness to learn something new. It’s a beautiful thing. With age your memory gets a little messed up. When I was your age, I could retain anything in my brain. Now I reread different parts of the Bible and after about three times I retain it pretty well anyway, I appreciate your knowledge and your interest in it. We need more young people like you.

    I first saw the foreshadowing of the cross in Proverbs, when I began reading the Bible for myself. It was like a new revelation that God was personally revealing to me; and although I know God reveals these things to all honest, deep thinking seekers, I still felt blessed that God chose to reveal such things to me. God is such a personal God!

    All are creatures of God.....All are NOT the "children of God." Recall Jesus words to some of the religious leaders of His day (scribes and Pharisees), "You are of your father, the Devil." To become a child of God, one must be born into His family -- via the "second birth......being "born again." John 1:14 --"For as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name."

I was going to read the 1st chapter of Romans and got stuck on the first verse. I asked the Holy Spirit what the word was for a book that gave you more insight. The word commentary came to mind, so i looked it up and read it several times. Now your video comes up on my phone for the first time. I think He is telling me something, so i subscribed. May the Lord bless you in a mighty way. ❤
