Norway Gun - Part 2
This is part two of the blank-firing gun I designed in Norway. Well, blank-firing, toy...whatever you want. I learned some very important lessons about the ergonomics by 3D printing my parts.

I think Oshkosk is the biggest event of it's type in the world.....I think. What you are saying about 3D modelling does make a lot of sense, on screen vs reality. I actually read an article at least 20 years back, that was discussing this phenomenon in terms of car design. The auto industry was trying to move from modelling cars in clay mock ups to doing it all on the computrer. The argument in the article was that as good as 3D modelling is, you don't get the same sense of how the end product is going to look until it's in front of you. I thought the argument had merit.
Gun guy over Fisk, rock your wings! OSH '23.
Thanks for sharing your ideas Mark.
I dig it! Glad your trip to Oshkosh went well. Glad you're back.
Always looking forward to a new vid. Keep em coming, at your pace. Love ya!
The CZ-38 is a tip up barrel handgun. It’s the heaviest .380 handgun I’ve ever held, next to the MAC-11.
Sweet, cant wait for the next chapter!
As a kid I volunteered at the Oshkosh fly-in! What an amazing assortment of aircraft.
Got to get in quick to see the Mark Serbu videos before they get removed

Diving into c&rsenal primer series, on revolvers taught me that often times stuff is ripped off and people credit a rip off or someone who even sourced and paid for patents, but the original idea maker is almost always misattributed or forgotten. Often people have similar ideas at similar times based on whats around and the tech of the time. Cool other example of a tip up barrel to show just that you gave.. people think the thing they know a feature from must have originated it (heck i've been guilty of this many times myself) but in reality, firearms have a long blurry history. And it can be quite hard to say exactly who and when stuff truly happened for the first time. I like your perspective of just having fun, and designing it. I also totally agree something can seem great on paper, or in CAD, BUT in reality just not feel right. So many cool lessons taught in such a short video. Your stuff always gets my mind working. Thanks for sharing!
I used to live just north of Oshkosh, only 4 people died this year, thats less than average so that was something....
I love the Videos on "making", my favorites are the GB22 and this one. I also enjoyed the videos with Royal Nonesuch. The meeting of horrible and professional was such a contrast. I would love to see more videos on "making" with low tech tools. I don't have a 3d printer, CNC or even a lathe...yet.
My professional Aviaton advice. No matter what, don’t forget to fly the plane. At least until you choose to exit the plane. Check your fuel level BEFORE takeoff, and don’t try to immediately U-turn to the airport when something goes wrong. I witnessed a guy stick his plane in the dirt because of both those reasons. Happy motoring 🐅
Never made it to Oshkosh, but flew into Arlington every year for a few years. At the time, Arlington was the 3rd largest fly in in the country. Directions were to fly to a large bonfire a few miles from the airport, then head for the airport single file and no talking. There was some separation in altitude for faster aircraft. I was never comfortable flying into that zoo, but survived. It was worth it.
I really like seeing your creations bro 👍 ❤🇺🇸
Great design
Got a revolver design in my head using the squeeze bar trigger and a thumb safety. A pocket pal for intimate occasions. Feel free to go with it or rattle my cage for the napkin version.
Great Work, I like the small Mauser 1910/14 and 34. They try to make one in .45 ACP. Youre model remember me an a france pistol the Policeman made by Manufacture Francaise in .32 ACP. I like the small models in .22 / .25 / .32 ACP. Greetings from Europe.
The Oshkosh airshow is pretty awesome, I drove over there for a day this year, would be cool to fly in though.
You have a special kind of way to awaken national pride 🇳🇴🇳🇴
It is so cool to see Mark Serbu 🤘🏼
Maybe wrap Plasticine or Bluetac around the handle of the odd feeling grip and then hold it to form the ideal shape. Can either measure it or 3D scan it . I know this is a just for fun one for you, but if you released some of the STL files, a bunch of us could test print and give some feedback if you wanted to. I mostly print in resin and have printed a few replicas as wall hangers .

The idea of scanning in bluetac and printing out your own fingerprints as part of the grip is a bit humorous.

Love EAA AirVenture. Live in Wisconsin and have been there many times.
Pretty cool
It's nice to see you, not blowing up O2 bottles. However that's cool shit, with the M60 and all. Nice little piece. Don't stay away for so long... God bless you and your loved ones Godspeed
Taurus PT-25 has the tip up barrel. My x wife when she first started shooting pistols, She seen this an want it. What is didn't like about it was it held I believe it was 6 25 acp in the magazine. But you had to put one in the barrel first before you can shoot the other ones out of the magazine.
I guessed it was the cricket from Men in Black. So I recommend keeping the full size grip on that, since lightweight guns tend to be Extremely flippy!
Everyone talks about reverse engineering, rather that copying. A place for some semblance of reverse engineering, is your grip design. Drive into town and head to a place that sells blocks of modeling clay. Add clay to the outside of a plywood core smoosh and squeeze it until you like the feel. It is a certain method of sizing a grip to your mitt. The remainder of the pistol would not lend itself to long hours of range time. I wear xxl gloves, and assume that no grip will “fit”. It does look interesting so far.
EAA FTW! Was my first year, damn it was hot!
The smurff canon looks good 👍

Others mentioned CZ-38…That’s one more tip up I was thinking about… Sootch has Beretta tip up collection videos that are informative… I have a Sheridan Knocabout (I always thought my tip release lever forward of the trigger guard was bent forward, but it matches the images shown??) The sear is worn… I mean really worn… 1910/1914 in 25acp seems closer to your design’s first grip than the 32acp version which seems closer to second grip… Thanks and take care!
If the grip and trigger guard were farther forward or perhaps angled more? Then it might have the look you want? (Just trying to make you wonder...and you will. 🤓).
Id love to see a .22 short kolibri
I hope you look at the colt 1903 for your next inspiration. I love the way it comes apart. I feel im love with those and rhe ruby copies but 32acp is hard to find. How about something like that with cool disassembly. I don't really care about the size or ammo but the fact that it is so different and still no tool required is what hot me hooked on old colts and brownings and rubies.

I agree. Pocket guns need to make a comeback. With all the compact, subcompact, and micro bullshit I'd have thought someone would be making a decent mouse gun these days. 32 and 25 auto are actually useful.
A revolver style grip would probably be perfect

Those old Mausers do look cool. As long as your experimenting with grip shapes why don't you try that rounded grip from the early Remington derringer or try the wider rounded grip from the High Standard derringer the D-100 model. To fit with that short frame you got your probably going to need to chop it off shorter. The Mauser Bolo length grips might also be about the right length. Your upper could be modeled to resenble a Hans Solo blaster which was based off a broomhandle Mauser. Granted you don't need the magazine well of a broomhandle for a single shot but you could use that space to build in a 22 caliber upside down Pez dispenser. It would look kind of like a mag well but would pivot slightly to dispense spare 22 ammo.
Hey Mark 👋 have you ever thought about building an airifle ?
Hello. STL files are available somewhere?
I didn’t know you were at Eaa but I was there as well so I guess it is a small world
Hi Mark, I've almost finished a jaco western that I would love to show you. It is said to be a popular design in the 70s but I could never find a good picture of one
airventure is so fun tho
So is it gonna be a semiauto when you find the sizes you like?
You know, seeing the grip on the introduction, I instinctively thought: "It's a Glock." I have to be honest, I didn't expect to hear that it was based on a Glock. I guess I got lucky. 😂
Why don't you add some side plates like the 1911s to the first grip? Maybe it will make it feel better in the hand and add a little bit of flair
So a tip-up single shot, or are you thinking a repeater?
Reminds me of The pretty boy's pocket pistol from Team fortress 2.
Are you going to sell the plans/files when completed?? 🤞
needs a 1911 grip officers model 😁🤠

Because it’s not really compatible with standard Browning-Whiting action (note the vast majority are .380 and under, things you can use in simple blowback, or non-repeating instead of 9x19, which is a super majority of the market) and turns one of the most critical parts of the mechanism into a moving part which is never a great thing in engineering. Might work with something like gas delayed blowback, but the slide of a Walther CCP is already easily manipulated due to its alternate mechanism so it’s a bit redundant.
3d printing has come such a long way, that's why "they" want to try and ban that everywhere next.
3D print some grip panels like in 1911 that will make it fill in your hand better😢
Barrel should be lower.... About where you point your giger to go pew!
Dude...that was my first thought...my dad had a Mauser 34...I.lost it to pawn in 84..dumbass me...Ibl wasn't a collector atbthe time...
Fosscad it !
Someone should build something like this around the Romanian AK front grip known as a Donky… well… you know.
fun little idea to save some time: 3d scan your hand and import it into models to get a fit idea. wont give the whole picture but it can give an idea that you can reference right on the end of your arm!

That'd make it a smoothbore pistol and an NFA item, so not ideal for if he wants others to do it. He could do an extra long .45 Colt chamber which fits a .410 Bore shell, but those guns always really suck at being .410s
