North Carolina has "Looked at the Big 12" as Expansion Option, but Big 10, SEC Are Realignment Goal
Спорт
If North Carolina were to join the Big 12 Conference, it would have several implications and potential outcomes:
Geographic Expansion: North Carolina's inclusion would extend the Big 12's geographic footprint into the Southeast, providing the conference with a presence in a new region of the country. This could open up new recruiting territories and fan bases for the conference.
Athletic Programs: North Carolina boasts strong athletic programs across various sports, including football and basketball. The addition of North Carolina would add another competitive team to the Big 12, enhancing the conference's overall competitiveness.
Conference Realignment: North Carolina's move to the Big 12 could trigger further conference realignment in college athletics, as other conferences may seek to adjust their membership to remain competitive. This could lead to changes in conference affiliations and the overall landscape of college sports.
Increased Revenue Opportunities: North Carolina's addition could potentially increase the Big 12's revenue opportunities through television contracts, sponsorship deals, and other revenue-generating initiatives. This could benefit member schools financially and help support athletic programs and facilities.
Rivalries and Matchups: North Carolina's inclusion would create new rivalries and matchups within the Big 12, particularly in basketball where the Tar Heels have a storied history. These matchups could generate excitement and draw attention to the conference.
Overall, North Carolina's addition to the Big 12 would bring both opportunities and challenges for the conference, reshaping its competitive landscape and potentially strengthening its position in college athletics. However, any decision to join the Big 12 would require careful consideration by North Carolina officials and conference administrators, taking into account factors such as geographic alignment, conference culture, and financial implications.

lol, imagine NC, Duke, and Gonzaga going to the Big 12. Even just one of those teams and the Big 12 would probably be considered a G-League. Just imagine, Houston, Kansas, Baylor, Arizona, Duke, NC, and Gonzaga…for starters. I cannot imagine the NCAA allowing that even if they all wanted to come to the Big 12 right away.

I realize you're dreaming, but BAYLOR isn't an actual basketball brand.
Of course they’ve looked into the Big 12 option, but let’s not kid ourselves. That’s for benchmarking other options-not as a serious plan.
College football is wrecking college sports just so big conferences can get an nfl style league with playoffs. It will ruin basketball and all the less attended sports, forcing ridiculous travel schedules. Its putting 5lbs of crap into a 1 lb box.
The B1G presidents have a rule governing expansion deals--they must be additive. UNC doesn't have the football eyeballs to clear that hurdle. FSU has been on the B1G's target list for more than two years. They will be the #19 B1G school. If I had to guess, I would say Miami will be their Plus 1. That leaves Notre Dame as the last school on the B1G's target list. Pete Thamel has reported that UNC is at the top of the SEC's target list.

@@wally8787 I agree from a "football" perspective they are not additive, but they will absolutely be added as a full member. Both SEC and Big 10 want UNC in their conference because of their brand, footprint, academic stature etc. UNC is 1 of 1 that this regard. Both ESPN and FOX want UNC so the SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 will throw everything at them to join. NC State may get left behind.

UNC would be invited to SEC or B1G. Their problem is state politics, a certain Wake homer State Senator, a BOG of NCState boosters, and a certain Wolfpack Backpack
Big 12 homerism at it's finest.

@@SportHawk717 Trash talk, ignorance and/or arrogance from a typical unimpressive FSU fan? Not recognizing peers and betters is one of the things that may land FSU in the new BIG12, in which it can play CINCY, HOUSTON & UCF.
To where is CLEMSON going if UNC stays? The BIG12 is the worst (by far) P4 in athletics, academics, prestige and actual media value. If UNC stays for whatever reason, only FSU likely leaves. UNC is not going to give up its position of power/influence even in a lightly depleted then Tier 2 ACC to downgrade across the board in the new BIG12. The State of NC isn't going to force anything if that means such a downgrade and the end of the ACC as a conference of some relevance.

@@SportHawk717 a) FSU agreed to be an ACC football tentpole. b) Though the ACC's history, CLEMSON has likely been carried more than carried. UNC just made the Sweet 16, was in the title game 3 years ago, and remains the biggest overall brand in the ACC. FSU is pathetic by comparison. I suspect FSU's failure to respect peers and scorched earth tactics was a factor in the CFP snub.
