Why SEC, Big 10 Want to Take Expansion Big 12 Teams: Utah, TCU, Kansas Rumored Exit in Realignment
Спорт
If Kansas were to join the SEC, it would have several notable implications for both the conference and the university:
Enhanced Basketball Prestige: Kansas boasts one of the most storied basketball programs in college sports history. Its inclusion in the SEC would instantly elevate the conference's basketball profile, adding another powerhouse program to the mix and potentially increasing viewership and revenue opportunities for SEC basketball.
Football Challenges: While Kansas has historically been stronger in basketball, its football program has faced challenges in recent years. Joining the SEC, known for its competitive football landscape, would present a significant challenge for Kansas football. The Jayhawks would face tough competition week in and week out, potentially impacting their win-loss record and recruiting efforts.
Geographic Realignment: Kansas' move to the SEC would result in a geographic realignment, as the school is located in the Midwest while the SEC is predominantly comprised of schools in the Southeastern United States. This move could lead to changes in scheduling, travel logistics, and regional rivalries for both Kansas and its new SEC counterparts.
Financial Impact: Joining the SEC could provide financial benefits for Kansas, including increased revenue from television contracts, sponsorship deals, and bowl game payouts. The SEC's lucrative media rights deals and strong financial position could offer Kansas greater financial stability and resources for its athletic programs.
Recruitment and Conference Dynamics: Kansas' move to the SEC could impact recruiting dynamics, as the school would be competing against different opponents and recruiting in different regions. Additionally, the cultural and competitive differences between the Big 12 and SEC conferences could influence the way Kansas approaches scheduling, coaching strategies, and overall program development.
Overall, Kansas' inclusion in the SEC would bring significant changes to both the conference and the university, impacting basketball prestige, football challenges, geographic alignment, financial opportunities, and conference dynamics. It would be a major shift in the college sports landscape with far-reaching implications for all involved parties.

If players become paid by the university, the university needs to have contracts that lock players into the university. Why pay the backup QB 1,000,000 just so he can transfer to Texas his second year?

There’s no way the conferences go to 30-40. I’ve kept track of the Big Ten conference realignment pretty closely for a long time. There’s one main key to keep in mind to guess what will likely happen next: What yields the conference the most money in the long term? The Big Ten and SEC aren’t going to add just any teams. They are cherry picking the teams that will add the most revenue in the long term. Keep this in mind, the universities in those conferences want to make more money per school, not less. Beyond a certain point, adding more schools will not increase the profits per school. And the most profitable in the long term doesn’t necessarily mean the biggest championship schools right now. Champions come and go. Clemson for example flashed for a few years in football, but they are unlikely to repeat that. On the other hand, the Big Ten brought in Maryland and Rutgers to add 2 of the biggest tv markets to the conference. For the Big Ten, #1 on their list is going to be Notre Dame for the huge national following. The most fought after school between the Big Ten and SEC will likely be North Carolina. They have a huge following and it adds a big TV market. Another potential big add for the Big Ten would likely be Miami. North Carolina helps both the Big Ten and SEC expand their market area outside where they already have it. Why Miami to the Big Ten? First, why would the SEC want to add Miami? They already have stakes in the Florida tv market and they risk upsetting Florida. Miami doesn’t really add value for the SEC. For the Big Ten, Miami has huge value. First, ESPN currently completely controls the Florida tv market. The SEC tv deal is with ESPN. The Big Ten is making deals with the rest of the major networks like CBS, Fox, NBC, etc. and it would allow them to pierce the Florida tv market and it would give the Big Ten access to the high school football talent in Florida. There’s a far bigger market in Miami than northern Florida with Florida State, even though Florida State is the better team. Clemson has a small market and they likely aren’t going to win again like they once did. So Clemson likely won’t get added by the Big Ten. I think Georgia Tech because of the Atlanta market and access to Georgia recruits or Virginia is more likely. I think the Big Ten will stop somewhere between 20-24 schools. The BIg Ten and SEC will cherry pick the ACC and the Big 12 will try to grab up most of what is left, especially good basketball programs. The Big 12 doesn’t have the money to compete with the Big Ten and SEC. So the Big 12 is trying to specialize in basketball since they can’t offer as much cash and keep up in football. I think the Big Ten will eventually win the long game, because the SEC is sticking more to its region. The SEC has to continue to win the most football championships to stay ahead of the Big Ten because the Big Ten is pulling ahead in tv viewership and money. And with more viewership and more money comes better players, especially with NIL. And if the ACC falls apart, there are few pieces to add that grow the SEC tv market. On the other hand for the Big Ten and Big 12, they are in a far better position to gain. The Big Ten can invade SEC territory and the Big 12 cleans up the scraps while the SEC might have to somewhat go on the defensive. And I think it’s stupid to see people list Stanford as a school that the Big Ten might add. If the Big Ten was going to add them, they would have when Stanford and California were practically begging to join. If the ACC starts to dissolve and the SEC and Big Ten grow, that will likely force Notre Dame to no longer stay independent. Why? Try scheduling decent home games. The bigger the conferences get, the less outside teams they will play. And what few outside games they play, which I think is already getting reduced to 2 in the Big Ten… they are going to want home games. I think if Notre Dame doesn’t pick a conference they are going to have a tough time putting together a schedule (especially quality home games) that allows them to have a shot at a national title. The Big Ten and SEC are already wanting to take much larger control of the college football playoff. And if you’re Notre Dame, it makes more sense to join the Big Ten. They have most of their established rivalries, far less travel distance, etc.
To join the Big 10 you need to be an AAU member. So Utah is fine, but FSU, TCU, and Clemson aren’t Miami is fine as well.

As long as TCU has to contrive ways to prevent other teams from buying tickets to prevent them from overtaking their stadium on gameday, I can't see how they make a lot of sense as a B1G target. If utah gets an invite it is simply to give USC and UCLA a shorter flight once year for their teams.
TCU doesn’t bring the Texas market lol. That’s like saying Riverside College in Los Angeles brings the LA market. If you want Dallas market you get Texas Tech. DFW is ruled Texas Tech, UT, OU, and some A&M. Tech has over 40,000 students. Where do you think most of them come from? DFW area

This talk about the House case being worth $Billions strikes me as ridiculous. What is the Value of a swimmer? In my view the entertainment value of swimmers is pretty much limited to Olympic medal winners. Some people want to pay Ncaa division 1 football players an average of over $200,000 each when half of them just sit on the bench and when the Professional Canadian players are getting $100,000 or so after proving themselves in college and professional play. I have no idea if TCU is being considered but on the field they have done more than anyone else in the current Big 12. Won the Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and even though they were destroyed in the National Championship game they still got there. They have been ranked in the Top 10 several times. They may not have the alumni base of the other bigger schools but they do offer other schools the opportunity to play in front of one of the most talent rich areas in the nation.
