REPORT: More Than Just Florida State, Clemson Leaving ACC, Expansion Big 12 Seeks to Add Schools

Спорт

If Florida State and Clemson were to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), it would have significant ramifications for both the conference and the schools involved:
Impact on ACC: The departure of two prominent football programs like Florida State and Clemson would weaken the competitive strength of the ACC, particularly in football, where both schools have been dominant in recent years. The conference would need to reevaluate its football scheduling, championship structure, and overall brand identity without these powerhouse programs.
Financial Consequences: Florida State and Clemson are major revenue generators for the ACC, particularly in football. Their departure would result in a loss of revenue from television contracts, bowl game payouts, and other conference distributions. The financial impact could be substantial and could affect the ACC's ability to compete with other Power Five conferences.
Recruitment and Talent Pool: The departure of Florida State and Clemson would impact recruitment efforts and the talent pool available to ACC schools. Both schools attract top-tier athletes, and their absence could make it more challenging for remaining ACC schools to recruit and compete at a high level.
Conference Realignment: The departure of Florida State and Clemson could trigger further conference realignment across college athletics. Other conferences may seek to capitalize on the opportunity to expand their membership by inviting the two schools, potentially leading to shifts in conference affiliations and power dynamics.
Impact on Rivalries and Traditions: Florida State and Clemson have longstanding rivalries with other ACC schools, and their departure would disrupt these traditional matchups and rivalries. The loss of these games could diminish the overall fan experience and historical significance of ACC football.
Legal and Contractual Considerations: Florida State and Clemson would need to navigate legal and contractual considerations related to their departure from the ACC, including exit fees, media rights agreements, and scheduling commitments. Resolving these issues could involve negotiations and potential legal disputes.
Overall, the departure of Florida State and Clemson from the ACC would represent a seismic shift in college athletics, with far-reaching implications for the conference, the schools involved, and the broader college sports landscape. It would require careful planning, negotiations, and adjustments for all parties involved to navigate the transition successfully.

Jim Phillips took time to insult Florida State & gave Clemson a punch in the noise. Then saying everything is great with the ACC. After Judge Cooper of the 2nd Judicial Circuit in Florida ordered 120 days of Mediation: The ACC has refused to Negotiate at all, per Judge Cooper’s instructions. FSU filed their amendment to the complaint. Which, now includes ‘Sovereign Immunity” as a primary reason in their case against paying the ACC $1 billion to exit the conference. Judge Cooper Ordered a Court Mediator & encourage a settlement be reached. The ACC refuses to budge! With no settlement insight it would not shock me to see Judge Cooper rule in Florida State University’s favor based simply on “Sovereign Immunity” clause. The ACC gets nothing & a template for Clemson, UNC, and the rest of the other Public University’s that want out. Otherwise, Discovery in a FSU/ACC Case will reveal every dirty secret the ACC & ESPN are seeking to hide. Should FSU or Clemson leave the ACC on or before June 30th 2024. Then the Composition Clause of the ACC/ESPN Contract kicks in leaving the ACC without a tv contract. SMU joins the ACC July 1st of 2024. Should FSU & Clemson leave the ACC on or before July 31st 2024 then the Composition Clause kicks in & the ACC has no tv contract. Stanford & Cal are scheduled to join the ACC in August 1st 2024. *The GOR is a penalty but it cannot prevent a University from leaving.

Die hard Utah fan here, I can't overstate the fact that the vast majority of Utah fans are grateful to be in the big12 and are excited to get to know the big12 fan bases. Every fan base has THOSE fans and those fans typically show out when expectations are high and yes I do believe the expectations should be high for this year's team. We love what we have coming back to SLC and we feel pretty good about how we stack up. I can't deny the favorability of the schedule, missing both the Kansas schools, West Virginia, and Tech plus most of the tough programs on the schedule coming to our house makes me feel like we caught a huge break and undeniably part of why many national pundits have Utah as preseason favorites.

FSU and Clemson - as the premier football powers in the conference - have landed a fatal blow on the ACC. No matter what ends up transpiring with the litigations (and how long they take), it’s safe to say both will end up in the P2 and remain competitive power programs in the new world order. On a related note, it is sad to watch the “Tobacco Road” heritage diminish before our very eyes. It’s truly one of the more unfortunate casualties of the evolving college football power structure. The harsh truth is that basketball and other revenue sports do not have the mass to counterbalance the remarkable and ever-growing value of college football. Programs like UNC, Duke, Kansas and others will in all likelihood take on tier 2 status in the coming P2 framework. While the P2 may end up accommodating some of these programs, they will only serve as chum to the alphas in both the SEC and B1G. What remains to be seen is how basketball and other sports fare within the coming landscape. The internal struggles and financial problems in Chapel Hill make this all the more evident.

Oklahoma State sure was pissed about not being invited. With the new playoff rules you really do not need to win to get in. As a FSU fan, I think the ACC and Big 12 can be harder because if you go undefeated it doesn't even matter. Even close wins like FSU's vs BC are picked apart but Bama's close win vs USF is ignored by ESPN. Couple keys. 1) There is a difference between wanting to leave and left. The difference is going to take the lawsuits and money negotiations. 2) Will ESPN do the opt out in 2027. 3) North Carolina, as a State, has grown and is growing in population, heading towards a top 8 or better populated State, with multiple good sized cities. That would support 2 SEC teams not just 1, should UNC stick with NC State. Big Ten would like FSU, Clemson, Miami, but Big Ten fans would prefer Miami really over Clemson. Notre Dame will go to the Big Ten when ready, not the SEC. Utah could go to the Big Ten. Kansas could go to the SEC or Big Ten….. but it’s a stretch. That’s pretty much it at the moment. It hinges upon the lawsuits, if the ACC wants to speed things up, and if ESPN plans on opting out in 2027.

North Caroline may being growing but its not Florida! The B10 and its tv partners top targets if the ACC fails or realigns is 1A Notre Dame and 1B Miami and FSU as a pair! Miami and FSU offer the same thing, USC and UCLA offer the B10 and its tv partners. They are located in the 3rd largest state which grows daily. Florida has 5 top 25 tv markets. Miami and FSU are national CFB brands. Miami and FSU over the last 38 years has as much history of winning big in CFB outside of Alabama! Both have played for at least 7 national titles and won 3 or more. California has large alumni and fan base. The same applies to Florida. I'm a Miami fan, who lives here in West coast Central Florida who is a Chicago native. This state top to bottom is full of Midwest and East coast transplant which means many B10 alums and fans! Florida is needed for recruiting! B10 having Miami and FSU in the B10, it means more recruits for the base B10 schools not out West. Miami and FSU are EST! That means something! Miami particular has big game history with Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame. Miami and FSU rivalry can be argued to be the best national and most impactful since 1980. Miami/FSU versus USC means two more national matchups!

I agree with everything you say except for that the Big Ten fans would prefer Miami over Clemson. The Tv numbers from B10 country do not show that over the last decade. Clemson TV viewers from that area are far greater than Miami over that time period. There was also some epic games between Clemson and Ohio State and I could understand why OSU fans wouldn't want Clemson with Clemson holding a 5 and 1 record over Ohio State. However could you imagine Clemson playing in the Big House or Penn State playing in Death Valley?

ND is stubborn and loves their independence and the B12 might be the only one willing to be a dance partner. ND keeps their independence B12 gets ratings exposure by playing ND. You also include NBC into the B12’s TV package by them playing 6 B12 schools a year.

As a Miami fan who is originally from Chicago but lives in Clearwater Florida, yes, historically or the last 50 years as whole, the SEC does have more better teams than the B10! It became even more with OU and Texas joining the SEC. I judge CFB programs on history, potential of winning, history of winning big, recruiting base, national recruiting capability and a few other things. The SEC currently constructed has more of those teams. 50 years ago is 1973! Since then, these are the current teams in the B10 and SEC who have won national titles. In the B10 USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Washington! In the SEC, Texas, OU, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, UGA and UF. How many of these teams have won multiple national titles! In the B10 USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, In the SEC, Texas, OU, LSU, Alabama, UGA and UF. When, it comes to playing for national titles, Its not close! Its the SEC schools I mention by a wide margin! The B10 added USC for a reason. Basically for the reason I mentioned judging CFB programs chances of winning!

Also, Texas has only won a single natty since 1973. Next, Auburn claims non AP/Coaches poll titles in the 80's and 90s. If we are claiming non AP/Coaches poll titles, then lots of teams like UCF can also claim titles. Auburn has 1 legitimate title since 1973 and it is one of the most controversial in history because its top player admitted he got paid to play for the school.

@@arronfrazier7873 Yeah, my point was more sarcastic as the poster made a claim that the SEC is vastly superior since 1973. He/she then went on to state several falsehoods easily checked. Texas only has 1 since 1973 and so does Auburn. Auburn claims ridiculous non AP/Coaches poll titles =UCF style. The pro-SEC poster conviently "forgot" that Nebraska has 3 titles in the 90s. So instead of a 7-4 SEC advantage, it's actually 5-5 for multiple legit AP or Coaches poll titles since 1973. So SEC teams with 2 plus AP/Coaches titles since 1973 are Bama, UF, UG, LSU, OU= that's 5. Big teams with 2+ AP/Coaches are OSU, UM, Nebraska, Penn St., USC= 5.
