I had spent an entire year depressed after I split with my ex and no longer lived with my son. He was my world and I could barely function. I spent that year rebuilding myself and consuming all things Norm in my downtime. His comedy was the greatest escape from my deep pain and kept me from doing anything stupid to myself. When he passed I wept. It’s weird how someone you’ve never met can have such a profound impact on your life, but his comedy was inadvertently an integral part of regaining myself. Thanks Norm. Your comedy is one the greatest things in this world and I am truly grateful for you and your life.

I watch Norm MAC-Donald clips daily. Of course to have a good laugh, but mostly to just smile. He really made me smile because he seemed genuinely sweet, and his eyes sparkled ✨ , especially when he knew that Dave delighted in his company, as all of us delighted in sort of his company. His mannerisms I know by heart now, all as fetching as the day is long. And yes, he was oh so handsome. I'll miss Norm forevermore because he was 1-of-a-kind, truly. P.S. Yeah, you'd have to say the farm boy stuff is really quite laid on, since Quebec City and Ottawa are medium-sized cities. Both are also capitals, both, even back then, with the better part of a million residents. Both did probably have a lot of people only a generation or two off the land, and maybe the Macdonalds were among them. But then, if you consider not only Norm's success but the success and repute that his brother Neil has attained as a globetrotting journalist, in a career made up of the most difficult assignments his profession has to offer (decades in the Middle East and Washington DC), it's hard to suppose they really came from rustics. I'm guessing you already thought all this; I just wanted to say it anyway.

Yeah but you'll notice in the first few years he didn't even get to sit in the chair next to Dave and be interviewed . Then the first time he does get to sit next to Dave where he's wearing white pants you see they don't have time to interview him it's just time to say goodbye and you see Norm's legs moving up and down pretty fast kind of nervous like . Although you would think comedians felt they hit the big time when they get on these late-night shows but the truth is that usually didn't consider it big time until they got to sit next to the show host and get interviewed and that didn't happen to him for a while from what I can see here unless they were left out but I don't believe they were . So if he didn't get to sit next to Dave for several years it makes you wonder if maybe it first Dave was a little bit standoffish towards him and then maybe started to like him after a while

Wow. His first appearance may as well have been his last. A pro, right from the start. He already had his signature cadence and joke writing style down. I can't say that about ANY other comedian I've seen. They all seem so wobbly in the beginning, trying to find themselves. Norm was one of a kind.

You are in for a treat! I remember him from SNL and was born in 82 so I remember seeing him and never realized he was so funny. Then after the Turd Ferguson stuff I got more interested and rediscovered Norm. Now he's probably my favorite ever. Genuine good dude. Seeing him tear up on Lettermans last show and how he didn't want to roast Saget because he was his friend. I'm glad he's around.

Most comedians do the same bits over and over. When you see a comedian on a talk show they are probably just testing a standup routine that they're working on, then they do the same standup routine at different clubs every week.

I think one of the smartest things about Norm is he would make bits that nearly anyone could relate to or easily understand, and thus very little of it is dated.
