With a pitch variation spanning up to 4 octaves, these avian maestros exhibit the remarkable ability to mimic over 35 native and introduced bird species, as well as the sounds of horses, dogs, and even human speech.
In the footage captured, the predominant calls are identified as "carolling," a distinctive vocalization employed for advertising or defending their territory. Typically initiated by one bird, additional magpies join in, creating a harmonious ensemble. Preceded by warbling, carolling is characterized by a pitch ranging between 6 and 8 kHz and comprises 4-5 elements with slurring, indistinct noise interspersed.
