European magpies have no relation to Australian magpies. The name is based on the black and white colour. Its the same with most Australian birds, they are usually completely unrelated to anything in the Northern hemisphere but the early settlers usually just named them after birds from back home Some exceptions are our water birds and raptors which are actually not very distant at all from northern birds.

My goose flock doesn't sing to me, but some of them, when they are eating what I've brought them & are happy, will make squeak sounds like a dog toy. Some of my seagull flock will chirp like songbirds after flying to meet me, while escorting me to the feeding site.

Oh I know that noise with the ducks! And do they wag their tail as well? We used to have ducks and the wild ducks often visit but make different noises. They're adorable.

He's probably telling us about his adventures his deepest contemplations about the meaning of life, but all WE hear is his chirping. So, who's the wise one the human or the magpie? I suspect- the latter. God, give us the wisdom to be able to listen and understand the birds and animals around us...

@@BackyardBirdsofAustralia I ask because (I swear this is real) a friend's girlfriend had an Iguana as a pet, & at a certain time of the month, each month (girl time), it would get super possessive of her. He would get really aggressive to her friends. It would even get a bit aggressive towards her.

@@cluelessbeekeeping1322 Haha that sounds slightly scary. Yeah I spoke with a vet once about something similar and apparently it can be an issue with pet birds but not as much of a concern with wild birds.
