If Dalinar ends up becoming a Fused from losing in his wager with Odium, "The Death is my Life" seems a good analogy for what he'll be: A ghost who possesses folks to live. And to echo both your points, his strength would be exploited as a general and his journey as a radiant would end.

I think it's far more literal. All the heralds have had their death become their life, and all their greatest strengths turn to their weaknesses. The king turning into a drunk, the beautiful destroying her art, etc

The visions are interactive to an extent, the actors will respond to Dalinar's actions. It's just Honor's lines which are strictly pre-recorded. It's also a pre-set sequence of visions which loops

I was binging these and slightly disappointed when I noticed I was caught up now. Always fun to listen to these, guess I can look forward to the next one and get back to reading.

Jimmy did a great series of spoiler post-read discussions on KZread for each book in the Malazan Main Ten with great guests like Library of Allenxandria, A Critical Dragon, Philip Chase, Johanna etc. They were great fun and Erikson himself sometimes dropped in!

Just started Malazan, got to chapter 10, absolutely clueless, There are so many points of view, and absolutely 0 exposition. So I went to the youtubes, as you do, and I got a tip to read the chapter summaries from Tor, wow game changing tip. I restarted and I have so much a better grasp on what i'm reading now

I think you guys over thought Nohadon. I think it was foreshadowing of how Dalinar too was a violent warrior who became a philosopher

Kaladin and Dalinar are great examples of forcing a transformation in a system by "being the change" and living as examples. In Daoist philosophy, we talk about "investing in loss" to create something new and better. We must keep losing at the game that everyone else is playing if we choose to play by different rules. 💙

If I remember correctly it is not that Adolin does not have a thought about his mom. He literally treats the Duals as his purpose and his pre dual routine involves carrying that necklace into the dual. Not only that, just because we don’t know much about the mom at this point does not mean Adolin had not spent years already thinking about what had happened (which we know was fairly traumatic) and at the moment just living his life as he sees it in front of him. I lost my father as a child, nowadays I might think of him once or twice a month. If I was Adolin, with an active war zone being where I call my home in the last couple years, there are other things on my mind besides the past to keep me occupied

6+3+1=10 is an important number in Stormlight, makes it sound less arbitrary

Isn't the ch. 60 death rattle the climax of Oathbringer? The death of his wife had taken over his life. The Blackthorne is his weakness. His journey is over. The death rattle is dubious because in the event Dalinar rejects this ending, something Odium/his unmade hadn't planned for or expected.

A Malazan podcast on the detail level of the 1-2 chapters you're doing currently would be intense haha. If you're interested and haven't seen them, Erikson has a few essays on writing, but there's an excellent one dissecting Tattersail in the aftermath of the Siege of Pale that is awesome. I'm not sure about the shardblade/plate idea beyond the referencing of spren wanting to imitate what they saw with the honorblades and the surges there for the heralds. The half shards (can't remember if this is confirmed or headcanon) i always thought was an aluminum base that does the investiture interference like other worlds....**Cosmere Spoilers** and then i extended that to wondering if the Ghostbloods get a foot in the door by trading that from Scadrial. I've been up with kids since 430 this morning (now evening in Sydney), so i may have made some of that up haha.

I must say I don't like the Daliner turn to Odium theory. His ark in OB was not becoming Odium champion, but I think he will sacrifice himself to stop Odium somehow. Also, the spern turned to Shardblade after mimicking the Honor blades, not sure if the Heralds had Shardplate

I could see that deathrattle as taln in like book 10. Dying over and over is his life, his strength could become weakness, and his journey could end

Dalinar relives these visions multiple times. Which one influences the timeline? Also didn't Gavilar see the visions too? I dont see a way for this to be timey whimey stuff.

I don't think the ceiling design is the radients symbol. Dalinar sees the symbol and recognizes it in a previous vision (chapter 19, the Heb vision).

All the Nohadon visions are a little strange compared to the others and is more comparable to the Tien vision. Maybe Dalinar or Nohadon is forging a connection since they are both bondsmiths

"The death is my life, the strength becomes my weakness, the journey has ended." Holy shit this being dalinar killing gavilar makes so much sense than i expected. Dalinar literally changed because of his brother, who was his strength. Gavilar was/is Dalinar's whoe life. and the journey has ended can be a nod to how gavilar introduced him to the way of kings where nohadon talks about journey. goddamn that's a very good theory.

@@LostinDiscovery good point. I don't usually correct people on name pronunciation, but that name is an actual word in the English language.
