I get that. Sometimes the best way to fall back in love with a book is time apart from it. If you stare at a canvas too long you'll start second guessing everything. Stepping away from a piece of art lends it fresh perspective. Nobody should ever take anything they write so seriously they can't bear to write something else; that's the kiss of death for any author.

@@thenumberoneyoungthug7477 yeah, as unlikely as a series or movie is though, an animated version, specifically anime, would never happen. There's this thread of an ex editor or advisor (idk can't remember) talking about it. Basically the person said that not only would it be expensive, but for an anime business to take it on they'd have to make sure that there's a market in Japan too. Idk why, the specifics faded with the times, but that was a huge point.

The biggest dilemma with adapting WoK, is that the world is so alien. Almost every scene would need to be CGI. I don't even think Game of Thrones budget would be enough. Also, Stormlight is planned to be a 10 book series, and we're only on book 3. We don't want the show-runners to catch up and make up their own fan-fiction. I hate to say it, but better to wait until the 2040s once the series is complete and CGI technology is more advanced.

In my opinion, Stormlight can't be filmed live action. As you said, it's too alien. Also, the action is really creative and would be extreme to film. I think it would make a great Anime series with western style character design.

Two points. One is that Brandon Sanderson is fast and consistent with his writing so having the show-runners catch up is somewhat less of a problem. Secondly the 10 books are actually split into 2 sets of 5 with a time-leap (of 15 years or something) in between, just if you didn't know.

I'd watch the behind the scenes of the Mandalorian. That show used some very interesting techniques to look like they were on alien planets. No greenscreens but not on location either. they put CGI background onto massive super high-resolution screens and filmed on set. This technique would work well for stormlight.

I'm not sure. A show needs a whole cycle of climaxes every hour or so, depending on episode length. The action in Stormlight is more gradual. If it's done well, it might work, but I fear that it might ruin sections, particularly Kaladin's depression and suicidal thoughts. My biggest fear is that they'll turn "Way of Kings" into a two hour, pg-13 rated disappointment.

I haven't even watched the video and I know Mistborn is the damn answer. Like dude, steel and iron's blue lines are pretty much a videogame visual cue, you could have coin shooting, you could push yourself around the city, emotional allomancy would be another "stance" completely since you rarely use it at the same time as physical allomancy, tin would let you zoom in and hear shit, pewter will double your health and could have like a red glow and stuff, and copper and bronze would also be super easy to show visually, and atium would look so goddamn cool yo... And honesly, all these things would look better in a videogame than in a live action adaptation. It's a no brainer.

@Haku infinite Hmm. Im seeing a combat system more like a cross between Prince of Persias acquisition system(picking up and using random weapons and debris as they drop from enemies, then throwing or "shooting" them at enemies before switching back to your obsidian knives) couple with the Force Unleashed style power system, being able to master and improve skills in each specific "metal", and being able to combine certain skills for new effects and abilities, like combining coinshot with pewter for a "power shot" or a more powerful jump/"ground slam" etc. The emotional allomancy skills may be useful in dialogue or for inciting and deterring certain enemies, now crossing more into Dishonored Territory with the different enemies complimenting each other and negating your abilities("music boxes" ) and sensing you when you use your skills.

The main issue with the Stormlight Archive is they wouldn't necessarily translate well into movies because nothing can really be skipped without the story or character development being broken. I mean, I understand the appeal of his other books as games/anime/shows, but Al is just so ridiculous sometimes, and I would love to play a character who can break anything. Though, being able to play as David Charleston would be pretty incredible, too. (Either with his rifle or his powers.)

It would be interesting to start out with Kelsier and Vinn training on basic powers, then expand to social events like old school bioware interactions as you gain influence and try to ballance your sooths and riots in convos with out being detected... Then as the game progresses you start working on the houses and have to ballance them to go to war at the right time. Of course, "There is no Kelsier level" secretly hidden after the end of the first "book". Though honestly, it would probably be hard to program all that into one game and it would be better to have a stand alone story with unique characters placed in a separate era.
