NOAA holds briefing about upcoming severe solar storm
Officials from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) held a media briefing on Friday to discuss the upcoming severe solar storm, which is forecast to arrive on Friday night.
NOAA has issued a Severe (G4) Geomagnetic Storm Watch, the first one since 2005, after a series of moderate to strong solar flares. A severe solar storm can disrupt communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations.

It is science, not the conspiracy guys... In order to find the magnitude, you can watch the coronal mass ejection, and guesstimate the amount and direction. But it is first at Lagrange point 1, about 30-60 minutes before it hits Earth it can be measured, Well, it has been going on for nearly 24 hours, and all is well. Nothing to see here, go on to cry about something else...

Well, that's the truth of the matter. We're all on our own in this one. What can we do at this point? You can't change the sun. We could have been hardening and preparing our infrastructure for years. We know this is cyclical, and I've heard warnings for years about how this cycle could be especially dramatic. But no one is interested years in advance, so we all have to just wait and let it come when it does. This isn't even the fault of the government alone. No one speaking has been listened to - our national pastime.

No, it didn't. Reports at the time said that operators could use some telegraphs without providing power, which meant not all lines were "burnt up"

@@anonagain Well, just google the Carrington event. Seems like there were several fires from the "melted" telegraph wires and sparks. The current was greatly increased by the length of the wires. Some people in close proximity to the telegraph machines were injured.

There is a spot between south America and Africa. Very weak. The things floating around up there like satellites could be there and loose malfunctions. The poles have been slowly moving as well. And are due for a pole shift. Flip. We still are protected from solar winds but our magnetic field is so weak a kitchen magnet is way stronger. We live in a fantastic world.

Looking at the graph on space weather live it seems to indicate a g5 very severe storm.
We apparently hit G5, not G3 as they assumed, shortly after this. Still 3 or 4+ more waves to hit. They danced around any question about possible negative effects to our utilities and infrastructure.

At solar maximum there are many solar storms. But the effect on society is microscopic. This is the strongest storm since 2003, and nothing is broken. My HF radio is more or less dead today, but that is perfectly normal after a strong Kp9 disturbance.

Sure enough, Ben has an actual update on Suspicious Observers, first wave hit while they were talking, and it is confirmed a level 4. This was a one-hour waste of time; I get twice as much info every morning and it takes five minutes or less. Ben's update was a minute and a half long.

I loved the question about "Is there anything the public should do to be prepared for this?" And the response is that everyone should already be prepared with weather radios, batteries, and generators. No! My neighbors are not prepared. Everytime we tell them they need these things the media says there wont be any impact from the sun. This would be a great time for the media to tell people what they should have on hand, NOT what we assume they already have.

If our power grid went down I would guess we would be in total chaos in the cities within 7 days. Most people are not prepared in the slightest to be without power, gas, or communications.
Above a certain level, our magnetosphere can be overwhelmed by incoming solar radiation & plasma. It can also affect people w/heart &/or nervous system weaknesses. Strong enough incoming radiation can affect all life on earth. Not to forget the solar energy also enters our magnetosphere through the earth's poles (enhanced aurora borealis's) & is transferred into the plasma within the core of our planet whupping up telluric waves which in turn can precipitate earthquakes (seismic) & volcanic activity AND intensity!

We should not expect much from MSM types who have zero understanding of what's going on. I noted that the guys answering the questions were extremely careful to not mention the current state of our magnetosphere and the pole shift. Very telling indeed.

@@WonderfulPretzel-gc8xd The Carrington event was a double CME strike but maybe X15 in strength, but with a much stronger magnetic shield protecting 0ur ancestors. This event may consist of multiple strikes that beat down the shield before it can recover. The Earth's magnetosphere is undergoing a polarity switch thus lowering its strength. Also, everything now relies on a much higher level of technology.

Carrington 1859, telegraph offices burned down. The only wires at the time. 1883, the first city was wired for electricity. How much has the field strength of our magnetosphere weakened since 2005? I have a rough idea, somewhere between 15% and 20% weaker but then they stopped reporting on the weakening of our field around 2017 because they don't want anyone to know how bad it is.
dont forget that the levels are exponential. So 4 is way bigger than 3
I packed my iPad phone,laptop, ect in my faraday bags, unplugged my car battery, unplugged other items in the house. I have inverted generator with tanks of propane and gas, propane heater, stove.
