An Extreme G4 Solar Storm Train, Eight Storms Race to Earth | Space Weather Spotlight 10 May 2024

The first solar storm in this train has hit! The storm is quite fast so the initial impact caused a momentary G4-level response.

00:18:29 | Summary
Right now we are sitting at G3+ levels due to a strong, but wildly fluctuating magnetic field. This is expected while we travel through the "turbulent" outer envelope of this fast-moving storm. Aurora views will likely grace the skies tonight through the weekend as this series of storms hit back-to-back. Learn the details of how this solar storm train came about, learn where and when aurora will be visible, discover how these storms are impacting communications and navigation around the globe, and find out how they might impact you.

I’m from northern Canada. When I was a teenager, I used to walk home in the dark with northern lights above me and I would be afraid of them when I was alone 😂 Ppl used to say if you unzip and zip your zipper, like from a jacket, fast they’ll come down. My mother told me just yesterday that the older ppl believed northern lights were ghosts of the past dancing.

I'm happy and pleased that there are modern advancements and people that obviously excell in their fields. It's just very impressive, really. Reminds me a little of the guy, character that follows geological earthquakes here on earth. Has a similar graphic presentation style, great access to official data, though predicting earthquakes is obviously difficult. Interesting - The 1859 Carrington Event "On Thursday, Sept. 2, 1859, at roughly 11:18 a.m. in the town of Redhill outside London, Carrington was investigating a group of dark specks on the sun known as sunspots, when he detected what he later described as "a singular outbreak of light which lasted about five minutes." I'll be watching the skies of Colorado tonight and tomorrow for the Auroras and telephone lines.

Yeah I’ve heard in northeast MS we might even get a glimpse of the aurora. If we see it that will be unreal! I’ve always wanted to see it but I can’t handle cold weather. Who knew I might see it here! 😳 I’m not sure if it’s just amazing or amazing & scary! I’m on the other side of the state the last time this happened then the new madrid had 3 estimated to be around 8.0 earthquakes over a 3 month period with tons of little ones and aftershocks. It’s all fascinating and something to be conscious of.
