No Nodes Procedural Environment in Unreal Engine 5 - Dash Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this tutorial, Galen goes over how one can easily create procedural cliffs and a full canyon with the help of Dash in Unreal Engine 5. To achieve this fully editable realistic result he used Path Scatter and Surface Scatter together with a spline and masking features in Dash.
Combining the tools in Dash like this makes sure the results are very flexible and can be easily re-adjusted to fit any possible design changes.
If you end up trying this yourself, please share it with us, either on our Discord or by tagging us on social media, we love to see how you are using Dash in UE5.

@@polygonflow Thank you! Yes, sure. I was already playing with it, and I have a few scenes in UE that are in progress. I want to implement Dash's helpful approach there. Honestly, I don't know why Epic hasn't already bought it from you. It is a must-have tool that should be in UE by default.

Really cool! Similar results to PGC. Why those assets have no nanite checked?

Does this method play well with performance? All the elements seem to be static meshes, are the extra copies instanced and thus do not cost extra calls? Great vid either way!

Our scatter tools uses HISM, the same as UE foliage painting, or PCG. So similar performance-wise :) Thanks!

Is there an option to use displacement with materials/textires instead of just placing assets and scattering them? Ir if I want displacement do I have to do that outside of dash? I’m new to unreal engine and trying to understand everything

Yes you can both enable and adjust the displacement through Dash. Some more info is available in the Discord FAQ: discord.com/channels/826908885024636989/1203998749295120384 I hope this helps, otherwise, feel free to send a message in our discord: bit.ly/DashDiscord :)

How do yo make the two sides of the canyon to face one to each other instead than facing both to same direction?

In this video Galen did two separate Path Scatters, and then he changed the rotation of one of them. If you are struggling, please send a message in our Discord and I can get you a short little video showing it 👋

Very hard to help without having more information :( bit.ly/DashDiscord If you can't join Discord, please send me an email and we can try to sort it out there! info@polygonflow.io, getting a video showing the problem and having the UE output log open would be a great start! :)

It's neat, but it would be a real trick to have cliffs generated based on slope detection in places where a cliff would naturally fit. That's what all these different spline based methods still fail to do. There's also just far too many subscription services out there these days.

Thanks for the suggestion, we do actually have an Angle Mask in our Surface Scatter, but will not down the request to add it to the Path Scatter as well! :) We know! That is why we decided to introduce a perpetual plan for Dash a while back! :) Available at our website, polygonflow.io
