Gaviota 5 now seems like a natural competitor with the new wide platform Kayano 30. Also, can't help but think the success of the NewBalance More v3 might have helped influence the direction these 2 model updates took. Would love to see a very stable NB update along that wide platform 'More' line. Since Hoka is aiming at a segment with a lot of wide, flattened feet, they really should offer an accommodating 4E width.

Nice review and comparison to the 5. Couldn't be more excited to hear about the room in the forefoot, glad to see Hoka making this update and listening to its fan base. It would be great if Hoka continues this with their other shoes. Great work.

Thanks for the review. I enjoyed the great breakdown. I am an avid Gaviota user but just can’t get over the stiffness of the 5 so I scooped up some 4 from the net for backup lol. Thanks again!

Thanks for the review. I own the Arahi 5 and 6 (wide) and looking for a new pair. Even the Arahi 6 wide took me some weeks of blisters to settle in. Looking into "upgrading" with the wider Gaviota. Will go try it on at a store soon. Many thanks!

What drew me to the 4’s was the late stage rocker. Especially after my podiatrist told me I have Hallux rigidus, left toe. G4 was the only stability shoe that I was able to find with a late stage rocker. I may try the 5’s when price drops. Until then I have purchased a couple pair of the G4’s.

These look so much cuter! I’m in between getting the arahi 6 or gaviota 5. I’m a woman so i have a different experience but i hope the women’s doesn’t have too wide of a toe box. I thought i had wide feet until i started wearing hokas and realized they were normal lol my feet slide around in my hokas unless I’m wearing thicker socks.

It looks like they've improved the tread design for the 5. I have had two pairs of 4's now (I love them!), but the black treads on both have come unglued from the base on both pairs after a few months of daily wear (5-6 miles per day). I will definitely give the 5's a shot!

ive got the 4, what is good about it? Its not really that cushions and has no comfortable squish, its very firm. But then its not springy or bouncy its just firm (hard), so its not good for quick runs as it slaps the floor, its not good for recovery runs. Its just a firm shoes that can be used in rotation.

For me, it is hard to raise my monthly mileage since I'm a slow runner . My average pace at 10km in my best PB is around 5:35 min/km, and 5km average PB is around 5:10 mi/km using plated shoes. Do I need to first improve my speed before I raise my distance? Because I don't have 2 hours plus available every day and I would need much more than that be able to do a ~30km run . Thanks

Landing on heal is not cushioned enough. Even walking you can feel the hard surface.
