I am glad you showed what worked and what did not work on your trees to get rid of the pests. It is good to have something that works. Seems like the organics work the best for you since the chemical ones are too harsh.

The dwarf definitely looked better before you hacked it up. There’s no need to always be so aggressive with bonsai pruning. Sometimes that just messes up a good thing a waste so much of the time the tree spent growing.

Truth! You completely hacked up the dwarf. Looks Pretty close to the large one that lost most of its foliage. Or that larger one you killed with the spray. Intentional? Smile. Seriously, you are way too pruning impulsive. But enjoyed the video.

I’ve used that safer’s insecticidal soap since I started keeping plants. Its gotten me through many mealy bug and spider mute infestations! Its also helped with thrips too

I had a mealy bug problem a few years ago.. I had to redo everything as far as repotting and getting using soap water... i finally took care of it tho

Thanks . (subbed) Just got a sick Fukien tea from a big box store at the end of the season. Getting cold here. Took it in and cleaned it up killed the spider mites on it and now I need to learn to take care of it.

I seem to be fighting a battle with mealy bugs on my trees. The first spray I did with neem oil was a bit strong, all my teas dropped their leaves. Now when I respray I just keep adding water to the mixture. I seem to have the bugs under control and the leaves are slowly coming back.

Hope you get the rest of those buggers in control and away! Nice looking fukienssss! The dwarf would look better on that other angle :) Fingers crossed the big one comes back with vigour!

🌟The little one seems fine since I soaped and sprayed. I mist it daily as well, and it’s under a grow light. The cheap $60 Feit from Home Depot.

Fukiens is a mystery to me. I havent seen one long term healthy tree in Europe. But it seems that there are some of them in your side of the pond. Dont understand why. Nice pruning and nice vid.😀👍

🌟Thanks Magnus! I think Fukien is a mystery everywhere. Some say easy, some say hard. Most say they are finicky, and most say they attract pests like crazy… I am starting to agree with the last two.. 👍

I have been looking for a long-time for a pyrethrin aerosol spray. I was just able to make out the ingredient in Dr. Doom and verify it online. Did you know that pyrethrin is made from Chrysanthemum flowers? A certain species known as pyrethrum daisies. When I first googled Dr. Doom, I got the Marvel comics character. lol. One reason your plant may have dropped its leaves may be frostbite. The temperature of the spray from an aerosol as it comes out of the aperture is well below 0C. When using a spray can, you need to hold the can at least a foot away from the plant. Spray cans used to have a warning about this on the back.

You sure give the fukien a thorough bath with that Doom stuff. :) You just spray it on and don't have to wash it off later? Good to see that large one is bouncing back after the involuntary defoliation.

🌟Hi Stefan! Yes, the Doktor Doom can just spray on and leave. There is a similar brand that uses oil as the carrying medium.. you can’t leave that one on. Trust me, I learned the hard way. 🤣
