We have some mimics near me. They mimic car alarms, police sirens, fire alarms and ambulance sirens. Police sirens appear to be their favourite by far though. They really like the police sirens apparently 😂 Blackbirds I think? Not sure. We've got a lot of birds near me so not sure which ones are doing the mimicking.
Woo hoo! A pruning smorgasbord!!!
Trying to catch up on videos with the iPad. Took 3 days to watch this video. Now all good on iPad to watch the Bonsai Master at work. A belated Happy Birthday! Great video!
Nigel, Citrus needs Fertilizer with higher Iron (Fe) percentage to get greener leaves.
I love these tree by tree sessions. I always chuckle when you try to predict how long it may take you to prune up your forests, and you are usually off by many hours. I’m getting a taste of forest management, and I love it, as long as I can pepper in quicker individual trees that need attention. Love your trees Nigel.
I believe it’s an deficiency, I will use iron night. I had this problem with my lemon tree and I used it and it greened up.
As I was working in the garden today, I noticed some strange sounds. Some snapping and almost bullet like banging. Our neighbor was out working with some machines too (he always has s machine going when he is around, most often the lawn mower). So, I thought maybe the strange sounds came from whatever the neighbor was doing. I stayed weeding in the garden for a good while and from time to time there were more snaps and bangs. Until there was a biiig THUMP💢. An old birch fell down. Just like that; there was almost no wind. We have been watching a group of old birches that can come down any moment. Today was one of those moments. Nobody got hurt and nothing valuable was broken. It was a cool THUMP.😎 A lot of timber to clear now...

@@gayefanner731 True. And it felt like I had been chosen to be the only guest at the funeral of an old tree. A holy moment. That birch was older than me (close in age to Nigel) and to its last moments it had green leaves. It is actually one of a triple trunk and two trunks are still up. The fallen part broke from a spot about 4 meters high, so the thick trunk is still standing.

Yep, that’s got God written all over it 🥰
Nigel you mentioned how the monkey ear trees don't survive the winter. That is a common phenomenon with tree propagation. Mike Dirr the famed propagator, Professor, Author, talks about that same issue with other woody plants. You're in good company with your efforts!
👍👍👍👍👍
The pot on the bougainvillea is nice!
Think the two larches look nice as they are the two different angles compliment each other, look very natural.
Great work Nigel
Hi Nigel. I think your lemon tree need's some liquid iron, i had the same problem with my lemons and iron really helped.
Maybe try some Iron Chelate on your lemon tree, that's what I use when they go a bit yellow. Works a treat.
Happy Bonsai summer time
Awesome row of updates and pruning! Am little worried for the lemon tree as you had that sick/dead grapefruit tree? Best wishes on that and keep yer videos coming.😀
So much inspiration to get from all different trees in this video. GREAT!
A lovely little tree.
So many cool trees! Great video Nigel! That was a lot of pruning! It was pruning more like what we beginners do! Smaller, not so developed trees! Great for learning!
My Brazilian rain trees dont have thorns and are just sticks lol. I am trying to do a broom style with one and i want to do a multiple trunk one. They are a little bit less then a year old but they are thick. Excited to see them in ten years.
I love the pot that your Pink Pixie is in!
Step #1 Hit like button. Step #2 watch video. Step #3 learn bonsai techniques. Step #4 Take a drink every time Nigel's wife appears in the video. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

Wouldn’t be long before we were under the table✌️
I've disovled a teaspoon of magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) in my watering can to help with making the leaves more vibrant. After one or two watering I've noticed an improvement and bounce back
I haven't stepped into the bonsai zone for quiet a while and I'm glad I'm back! Lovely to see your trees after a long time

Great pruning. I hope the Monkey Ear Tree will do well!
Love the elephants, hope they work for you. You always have such good ideas.
Blue Ash get their common name from the blue dye that was made from their bark. Their botanic name references the shape of their buds. Correction the shape of their young stems. It's not easy keeping track of all this trivia! LoL!
The first tree is so tiny & adorable
Nice, I’m a big fan of your Pink Pixie Buggy 🙌🏼 great work master 👌🏼
Foliar spray with iron should green it up
👍👌👌
Your videos are so calming. Your boganvillia looks wonderful ❤ I like the ideas of the dividers
Hello Nigel! 6 years ago you did a video with 5 tips for beginners it was more on the “sentiment” side, do you have one on the practical side? Like what kind of pot to use, soil, tree, tools to use etc etc….i also notice (at least on the videos i have seen) that you do not use wire to train the branches, why is that? Regards from Peru.
What a brilliant find - those elephants. My son makes a point of searching the thrift shops for similiar stuff as christmas stocking gifts for me. I love the pot of that Boogie. The movement in the raintree is so natural looking as well - looks great. I have given up on lemons after my last two died this winter - clearly Grantham just hasn't got the climate it likes. I shall just have to enjoy the species vicariously through you 🍋 You got the heights spot on for the cutback baby forest too. Cheers for keeping my rainy Saturday interesting :)

I just love that Bougainville bonsai of yours. When does yours normally go into color up there in Canada?

It usually flowers mid to late summer and continues until winter.
The two most common causes of yellow foliage in lemon trees are over watering. You want to let the surface 5cm or so dry between waterings. and the other is that your soil is too alkyline. You need to have a Ph of between 5.8 and 6. These are acid loving plants.
Lovely bouThe Brazilian rain tree is one of the nicest I've seen. Well done! The Lemon tree is interesting. Was the yellow hue on the leaves a function of the lighting and the camera? That Larch from Xin is, as you stated, nicely styled. I don't like that the trees are growing away from each other, but that's just my opinion. I think I would make them more like a "father/son" planting. Nice ash. Haven't seen any here in s.e. Florida.
I have seen people with similar issues with their lemon trees. I’ve heard it might have something to do with an iron deficiency.
Hi Nigel, i wonder how your Scots Pine in the unusual pot is doing. And how your JBP japanese black pine is back budding after you have pruned the long shoots of. Will you do a pine video soon?
My understanding of lemon trees that are grown in pots with pale colored leaves. It means that they need more direct sun.
@dk2614

Just for the sake of discussion.... I have a bunch of Citrus in full direct sunshine all day. Some are dark some are light green. All get the same fertilizer at the same times. Interestingly Bojrn Bojrholm gave a recent video about watering noting specifically how genetic clones can behave differently from parent trees. Many variables come into play concerning the health and behaviors of bonsai. I think ultimately overall health should be our first indicator. If Nigel's tree were stunted or dying then maybe it would be of concern

Yellow leaves often indicate an iron deficiency. That might be the case here as well. :)

From my experience with lemon trees, it means too much sun 😅
@dk2614

@@lordgrubbin9394 Since Nigel fertilizes with every watering that is highly unlikely. However chlorosis is more closely associated with a ph imbalance where magnesium is simply easier for the plant to uptake than iron. Chlorosis is usually light colored leaves with a dark midrib and veins.
Is it better to prune that sprout earlier so the plant doesn’t waste energy on a large sprout?
@TheBonsaiZone

The growth builds up the flow of sap to the area, once the branch is pruned off, it quickly grows new shoots to replace it and continue the growth in that area!
O cimento de borracha que você fala no vídeo. Você está se referindo a cola silicone para vidros?
When you say to fertilize heavily, do you mean more often or more fertilizer. Won’t more be likely to burn the roots?
