Nissan 300zx for $200 | Was it worth it?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Bought this sad 1988 Nissan 300ZX at an auction for $200, saving it from going to the scrapyard.
It sold for cheap because there was no car title. Lucky for us, we found it buried under piles of miscellaneous crap in the Nissan.
Watch as we dig through the piles of garbage to see if this thing has any life left in it.
It's Z TIME baby!!!

    Word! It hadn't been on the road in years, but I'm not sure how long since it was started/moved. Fluids looked and smelled okay, but I was still surprised that it started and drove as well as it did.

    @@theonomicsbuilds6133 to be honest I was surprised that you were happy to start and rev the engine like that, from cold, without being started for so long. Glad it ran and hope that didn't wear anything (no time for the nice old thick oil to distribute around the engine so metal on metal lol) Got me looking at ebay now for a zx again (in the UK)... One on there for £225 ($288) - tempting! Gonna go check if there's any updates on this car now :D {Edit: No update :( }

    I have a lot of friends in the Z community. Know people that have done everything from carbed 302 swaps in them all the way up to 750 horsepower RB swaps. You either get the cheap ones that have a lot of problems. Or the over priced ones that are too mint for people to want to mess with. Seems like we had both struck out on our deals. Mine sat in a back yard for 6 years without being ran. After a new battery and starter with some fresh fuel, it started right up and I drove it out of the yard and 8 miles home.

    Oh- this hurts my heart! This was my car in high school in ‘86. We ordered it because I got the extended wheel base so that it had the little jump seat in the back so one more friend could ride with me. It was gunmetal gray with a gray interior and I also got the digital dashboard, and they couldn’t find one with those specs in the US- so I had to wait 6 wks or so for it to be made and shipped over from Japan. My God I loved that car. But I kept mine pristine. So sad this one is so filthy. I drove it all the way through college, through my early twenties, when I got married, and until I had my first child and it just wasn’t feasible to put the car seat in the jump seat. Although for awhile the car seat was in the passenger seat (no airbag) and my husband just couldn’t come along. I cried when I finally had to get something the kiddo could fit into. If I’d had more money, I would’ve just kept it. It was SO fun to drive. A girl could not have had a better car in her youth- I was so lucky!

Just fit right into their own unique slot .... personal ... luxury sports car. It was a statement of who you were ... for me anyway ... sporty with the accent on quiet smooth comfort.

    I had that same car back years ago. I did 147 mph in it. I loved that car. Remove the T-Tops and cruise. Reliable car. I had it 16 years and only problem was the fuel injectors which nissan replaced for free. I now own a 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo which I bought brand new. That 1987 brings back fond memories.

    the '84 -thu '88 300zx (Z31)still has the sleekest body shapes of any Sports Car, and for those who bought new and kept it in running shape, have histories of 280K mileage with no body damages but may have experienced head gaskets blown and replaced. I know of another '85 that had good engine block at 245K mileage and then rebuilt his Heads as NEW, and cruzzzezz the beaches of California in his 2 + 2 and burns up the highway to Mammoth Mountain in Winter carrying full SKI equipment inside and still has room for passengers. city boys like the Clutch models to show the ZIP from red light to red light, EH? Look at dropping a Toyota 1JZ into it, they make the engine mounts and bellhousing conversions, then you have plenty of room in the engine compartment to work on it with relative ease.

    @@b.luong2 you are so clever! did you think that up all by your self? Bad Vicious - wow can not see how you pulled that out. Not sure what sort of message you are trying to convey with that line of emoticons - I will just chalk it up to tourette's. I noticed that you had nothing substantive to add to the conversation, other than make an admittedly BRILLIANT play on my screen name. So again, I think they have medication that can help with that run away string of emoticons. You should try meditation - lower's the stress level and improves mental health. And maybe just maybe (there is hope for you .. I mean Bad instead of Brad - truly inspired) you might post something that adds to the conversation. Good Luck!

    Hey, this video has pretty much randomly popped up in my youtube home page but am I glad that I have clicked on it! I think (after converting $200 to my currency) that this was a total bargain - the interior looks pretty decent, just needs a few fixes there and there, the chassis looks good from the outside, but the engine bay is rusty (undercarriage and other parts probably too) - but hey, the engine runs! I am not that familiar with 300ZX overall, but I think that you might spend another sum of money on repairs - the same amount for which you could get this car in a decent condition - but still, a total bargain imho. If you have handy body-repairers (friends) and car guy friends then I think that you might even repair it very cheaply, mabye overall price could be like $1000? Anyways, I hope that you will fix it ASAP and turn it into a proper beauty! ;)

    My neighbor down the street has one FS also, but around here, I fear the prices are outta my ballpark. For $200 though, I'd be knocking 😄 Car scrap value around here usually goes for around $300-500 depending on weight so any car for $100-200 is a win.
