Nirajakshi- Kamakshi, is a composition in Raga Hindolam (hindustani classical calls it Malkaus) by the Carnatic saint poet composer Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar. Dikshitar who was an ardent devotee of Sri Lalitha, composed several krithis unparalleled in their beauty on Sri Kamakshi, who is considered the only "sthula" or manifestation in material form of Sri Lalitha. In the Krithi he describes Kamakshi as - 'ka' is Lakshmi and 'ma' is Saraswati (or Sharada) and the one who has Lakshmi and Sharada as her two eyes is Kamakshi. The emotion of Bhakti and internalization in the composition are palpable and has been an intense experience for us to record.
Malkaus is a major raga in the hindustani classical system and is said to have an esoteric element to it. It is a serious meditative raga and is seen to come into its element in the lower octaves. Considered by many to be an esoteric and enigmatic raga, it is unique in its appeal "balancing structural simplicity with an unfamiliar tension".
Nirajakshi Kamakshi is a track from the album Iti - Dhrupad Meditations (now available on all straming platforms li.sten.to/lis... ) on Dikshitar along with a traditional Dhrupad composition in Malkaus. 'Iti' is an album of Nibaddha gaan or closed format singing embellished by rhythm on pakhawaj in a typical Dhrupad sound canvas.

Excellent rendition of Sri Deekshitar’s kruti… this is taking back to golden days of Sri Deekshitar most probably singing in Dhrupad paddhati.. Thanks a ton for your devine efforts in bringing back memories of Deekshitar and Dhrupad connection…🙏💐💐 Also Malkouns was earlier called Mala Koushika… 🙏 and much more historical background it has… I would call as queen of the Ragas…my very soul stealing raga 🙏
