Keep in mind PS2 only did so well because of a built-in DVD player. DVD video was brand-new at the time, and most DVD players were upwards of $500.00 USD. But with a built-in DVD player on this console that could be used for movies, and not just games, and only costing $300.00, people finally had an affordable way to watch movies on DVD like *The Matrix.* Switch 2 would need to do something like that to compete with PS2.

DVD players were not $500 in the year 2000 it was more like $200

The fact that they delayed the console tells me they've learned from the Wii U, and probably are looking to learn from their mistakes, having a better launch line up. Also, the Wii was a more casual console, so most people didn't carry over to the Wii U, but the Switch has a much stronger community, and it's still selling really well. Even if the console doesn't exceed the switch, I doubt it will be even close to as much of a failure as the Wii U.

Even though the WiiU was quite a big failure the game lineup was crazy. - BotW (ported to the Switch) - Mario Kart 8 (ported) - 3D World (ported) - Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (ported) - SMBU (ported) - Pikmin 3 (ported) - smash bros - Mario maker - Splatoon - Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (ported) And even more amazing games. The WiiU brought so many new franchises & gameslines with it it’s crazy. Most of these games haven’t even gotten a release on the switch. - no new Donkey Kong - no new Mario Kart - no new 2D Mario up until this year Imo the WiiU was a very solid console the only thing that sucked was the marketing. Hopefully they won’t do that exact mistake with the switch 2 and market it badly

Wii u was a different case it confused so many people. Most of og wii's consumers were "casual gamers" meaning nursing home and elementary school/daycare audiences . So many people didnt know wii u was a different console. Switch returned back to hardcore gamers. And were all saying if its not broke dont fix it. Switch is an amazing system we just need it more powerful and they will get the win. They snatched all the 3rd party support sony used to have. Especially the Japanese 3rd party support that sony abandoned. If they create a system strong enough to port these new final fantasies. Its a wrap. They will reclaim dominance in the gaming realm again

Props for Nintendo sticking with the design and perfecting it with the switch. I think the best console they could ever make for their final console would be a switch with two screens, ar cameras, and a way to play every single game they've made for every console. Bonus points for upscaling the graphics

The Wii U had a very underwhelming library too. The only new ip that did something was Splatoon and that wasn't a game most people would buy a console for. It had next to no third party support after it's first year and only being able to use one gamepad at once hurt it's multiplayer. Most of Nintendo's most popular ips were remakes (Zelda), no shows, weren't received well or felt like spinoffs.

this feels like they nailed it, yknow? and now they're dead set on just making the hardware better. no more gimmicks, no more peripherals , just good games.

I'd like to see some of the features from the original Wii be reintroduced with a more modern take. Mainly the Mii's, I mean they are there on the switch but not in the same way. I'm not really sure why they don't seem to care about them anymore, they made the Wii feel like a whole ecosystem. Also the little things like the Nintendo channel and Everybody votes channel. These stupid little features were fun when you felt like taking a break from your game. Also give us back an internet browser, the Wii U had the best console browser to ever exist and they just ditched it.

I can see this being less like a Gameboy to Gameboy Colour situation and more of a DS to 3DS situation or like you said the Gameboy to Gameboy Advance, It'll retain it's portable nature but have much better specs AND if the leaks are to be believed, the console might have DLSS 3.1 built into the Chip by Nvidia as well as Ray Tracing Support, though I can see that being used sparingly as even the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have a hard time doing Ray Tracing

I really enjoyed this video, as well as all of the videos of yours that I’ve watched. 🙂 With that being said, I hope this does not come across as rude or disrespectful… It’s not meant that way. I listen to some of these videos, I’m saying to myself, did they not see the launch for the next switch? Because on that stage, he actually went over many of the brand new games that are going to be released on this new console. And I wonder if maybe you’re not mentioning those because Nintendo has not given any extra information on them yet…. Such as Mario journeys, Splatoon four, Mario kart X, another new Metroid, and maybe a few others I cannot remember… It also mentioned the backwards compatibility, with the first switch. So I kept thinking of these things as I was watching the videos and just wanted to speak up 🙂 God bless your channel

Nintendo needs the switch two to be just as powerful as other hand helds. Preferably with the ability to support higher graphic AAA games.

With WiFi and Bluetooth tech as it is today, would not surprise me at all if Nintendo went back to the drawing board with the Wii-U game controller setup, that had let you see some of the games, right off the controller, wile the Wii-U ran the game at a distance. Only this time, all games would be displayed on the controller display, on a 8" full 1080p display. Think of this. A system the size and shape of the GameCube, very portable, running all the games, using similar but new tech than the Switch has, a built in light-bar, similar to what the Wii has, but set in front for the same kind of tracking the Wii has for it's controllers, and a portable wireless display that the controllers can attach to. It would still be a Switch of sorts. But with all the raw compute power on a system you can carry, either on your back or on your side, and the display is just a wireless display that you hold in your hands. The idea is not that old. And could work better than in the past, with today's tech. Here is the real neat thing. If the compute power is not in your hands, and the display is just wireless, this means there is a chance of them also in time, making a very light VR display, such as the VITURE, or XREAL display glasses. This would let you play Super Mario Odyssey, or Breath of the Wild in their built in VR mode, but in a way that would look far better than it did on the Switch. If done, would also open up the option of seeing more Switch 2 games, in full 3D. All made very light, and very portable. And the new Switch controllers, could also double as VR hand controllers. None of this needs to compete with the likes of the Quest 3 as a new possible VR system. But if the visuals are at least as good as the Quest or Quest 2. And still made very affordable. Perhaps $500 for the entire thing. System, wireless 2D display, Switch like detachable controllers that double as VR controllers when un-docked, and an optional VR glasses display with 720p or 1080p per eye, all for $500. It should be as some would call, a game changer. And even if it all would cost $600 or $700 for everything. I would still get such a new Nintendo Switch 2 system. ^.^

Switch 2 is the best idea. Why? Because Switch 1 had the best features as a console from all nintendo console family. They have to stick around this idea and make it better. Imagine to play breath of the wild at 4K with locked 60fps..! Who is gonna deny to buy this console? I remember that I have played assassins creed black flag on switch and couldn't believe what perfect graphics I had on a handheld console. Put this at 60fps again. The perfection in your hands! Switch 2 for sure!!!

Give it the ability to have a browser with open downloading so your not locked down to just Nintendo but could use steam or epic, give it a magnetic keyboard, and a track pad. All of that could make it compete with windows handhelds which can do so much more then a switch

The GBA sold so much less than the og Game Boy because Nintendo cut its lifespan short by Launching the DS after just 3 years because of the PSP. The Gameboy had over a decade on the market, and the GBA was a monster to sell 81 million units despite its successor coming out so soon. Given 5-6 years as the only Nintendo handheld on the market it could have easily matched the Gameboy's sales. Like how the Switch would have sold tens of millions of units less if it was replaced in 2022 instead of 2025.

So I read their Q and A report which they have on one of their official accounts it was someone interviewing Nintendo’s president and one of the things he said was their has been a delay in hardware development and it has caused them to move back the switch successor release to early summer to late spring of 2025 due to the fact that the shipments and production of semi conductors has been incredibly slow to the point where they don’t have an exact release date at this time but they will be holding a meeting sometime in August to discuss plans for next year also they said their will be some games announced this year that will end up being on the switch successor you will know if it does not claim to be releasing on switch or if it doesn’t have a switch logo

I just hope that Nintendo markets this system in a great way and not like the Wii U and how that was marketed. I just hope that the Switch 2 or whatever it’s going to be called can have 4K when running on the Tv, 1080p when running on the handheld, Eshop & Menu music & Menu themes and that the Eshop runs smoother too. Also for the Switch 2 for the consoles name I either want Super Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Power.

In a way, alerting consoles completely doesn’t seem to always work right off the bat. Just look at the Gamecube, which, partially due to all the strong 4th gen competition, really suffered in both the sales and reception during that era, and sold fewer units than its predecessor.

I hope Switch 2 will do really well then what Wii U cause hopefully we can get some new games like a new 3D Mario game, a new Mario Kart Game, a new Mario Party Game, a new Mario Sports Game, and a sequel for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and we can hopefully see the GameCube Library come to Switch 2 as well so I hope this new Switch 2 Console will do much better then Wii U.

I feel like the new Professor Layton game that is still being worked on might actually be moved to the new Switch. I still see the "as of now they're aiming for a 2025 release" whenever I'm searching if there's more new info about it. I also hope that the new Switch also gets something like Streetpass again with even bigger minigames and more cool puzzles to collect again

I’m still sad about the LED screen rumors.

I am just hoping that its at least backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch. Quite a few games actually suffered from either huge FPS loss or long loading times because the games were not optimized for the system's hardware. Not to mention the games that were completely unplayable due to crashes.

We already knew this much.

This will be a DS-3ds situation in both sales and hardware, the only way for it to be more succesful than the switch is by having the rumored Xbox game pass on it, because at this point only nIntendo IPs are relevant at this point on the switch, there is also low interest for the third parties to develop in a low spec hardware, so cloud gaming might be a solution here unless the power is superior to the other pc-handhelds

If it has GameCube and Wii games in some sort of virtual arcade I'm getting it. If not, no thanks. They already confirmed no OLED at launch...

I'm sure the Switch 2 is going to have the best graphics technology that the year 2021 has to offer.

Maybe Splatoon 3 and Smash ultimate will get a next gen update, where they make Switch 2 versions of them but if you have the Switch 1 version it will automatically download the switch 2 version for free. And maybe smash and splatoon will get a content extension for switch 2 only to encourage people to buy the new system because they have games to play on it

It's not just easy to make a sequel to a game, and probably not when it comes to Smash Bros. Probably more easier for us to say it though as we could basically add whatever we want and all but probably not that easy for Nintendo though.

I don't thing the Switch 2 is going to do better than the original Switch. I think it's going to be more of a 3DS situation: better graphics, some new features, but nothing fundamentally different that would make most people who have the original Switch want to buy the newer model.

Splatoon 3 isn’t at the end of its update cycle yet so I think that if there is a splatoon 4 I think it would be at least a third year game

Y know I never did get idea behind calling it the switch 2, I mean there is already a 2nd switch with the switch lite and oled so wouldn't it technically be the switch 4?

If nintendo makes new ip it would be cool when nintendo could recreate the legend of zelda games similar when lego recreated ninjago to chima and nexo knights, i think nintendo could do the same thing for the legend of zelda

i think it could be a mix of 3ds and the switch maybe it will be called 3d switch
