Ninja 300 With 30k Miles Still Runs?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have been getting a lot of questions about the Ninja 300 lately. Some ask about the Ninja 300's longevity. Will the Ninja 300 last. How many miles and you really get out of the Ninja 300. After almost two years and over 30 thousand miles, I think I might have a few answers for you.

    My 2013 Ninja 300 has 56,000 miles and still runs strong. I just recently bought a 2017 ZX-10R but my 300 still runs great and I use it as a backup bike. The only problems I had so far was 1. the starter motor went out at about 10,000 miles but was replaced under Kawasaki 1-year warranty. 2. The stator went out (was not charging the battery) at about 39,000 miles. I bought a used stator on ebay and replaced it myself. I always run Mobil 1 10W-40 Racing 4T oil because it is available at all the stores. Ride safe all!

    Kev Dog i will say it is a non-abs model, though. It was august of 2017 & they were wanting to move out last year models & wouldn't make that deal on the abs model. They were probably wanting to clear them out for the ninja 400 coming out. I went back to the same dealership a few months later & they had a brand new ninja 650 for $5,000!

    Eh I'd say 30k is middle of the road miles for a modern bike. I've got 23k on my 05 (pregen) ninja 250 and I have no worries about it. They say these pregens will go 50k+ miles easy so the new 300s should easily do that. Honda says if maintained their 300 should go over 100k miles! You still riding this in 2017? 😁 Great video btw

    Is it okay go for hours with top speed? (180 kmph/116mph) What is the fuel economy if you ride with the top speed? Can you ride it in Rain? Can you put bags on the bike and use it as a touring bike? Do you think it's worth to bring it to track?

  • @Carguylogan
    @Carguylogan7 жыл бұрын

    Its hard to say how long the engine will last. According to Ninja250.org, the old 250 engines went 50-80k before they needed to be replaced. The extra 50cc of the 300 is all stroke, so the piston speed and g force is greater, as well as the distance the piston slides inside the bore per revolution. Those things would mean LESS longevity, but the 300 engine was redesigned with a lot of upgrades. IIRC, piston oil squirters, a better skirt coating etc. I'm anxious to see how many miles they will last and what will fail! I use full synthetic oil and change it every 3-4k miles, stock air intake and exhaust system, so it has a good shot.

    It's probably worth noting that the 300 has a lower redline than the 250 (and powerband extending lower into rev range) which is going to mitigate piston and or valve train speed issues at least somewhat. Specific output is still low enough that one would expect decent longevity, and from what I've heard so far, this motor delivers it. I'm curious just HOW long lasting they are also. Maybe I should keep riding mine instead of upgrading -- for science.

    the dna of the ninja 300 runs back to the gpz 250, i used to run multiple zzr250s, managed to squeeze 350 thousand out of one, only major replacements piston rings x2 cam chains x3 1x head gasket,rear shock linkage replacement. scotoiler helped chain to 50 thousand miles to replacement, harsh winters salt on roads. crashed on the hour every hour,bike spent most of life with panniers attached. kept in oil and maintained an average of 150 thou a bike should be achivable.

    The chain on my ZX1100E has 53.000 miles on it. The original one went 48K. The sprockets are the factory originals and are still in good condition. This is a bike with triple the power of the Ninja 300. If I had a chain go less than 30K I'd be furious. PJ1 Blue Label every 300-400 miles. Much cheaper and safer.

    Waste of money getting a Dealership to do maintenance on your motorcycle. It is easy to do it on your own time. Especially the typical chain cleaning and lubrication every 250 - 400 miles depending on how much dirt has built up on the chain and sprockets.

    If you had only did oil change. That is also enough for this bike. It is a Japanese bike plus it is manufactured in Japan. End of story. It will live for ever, unless the owner purposely wants to end it. I have a 2015 , 300 ninja, nothing happens to it, no matter how I ride it.

    ThisLifeRiding Definitely, I'm only a small guy but the weight on this thing is really great, a lot lighter than I expected for a 650. Don't like walking with the bike though in case it leans because I know I won't be able to keep it up. Mirror arrived yesterday, was able to fit and use it for work! Going for a nice ride later on! :)

    so every 4000 miles roughly you paid between 200 to 700 bucks? I don't trust shops to do what they exactly say they'll do or what is required. Befriend someone who is tech savvy or learn some stuff yourself. Also in 30k miles thats a lot of money! :)

  • @kleinbottled79

    @kleinbottled79

    This. I don't trust a shop to work on my bike. My life is on the line, I need to KNOW it's been done right. Also, a motorcycle is more expensive per mile to run than a car if you don't spin your own wrenches. Ninja 300 is easy enough to work on, I've been enjoying that aspect almost as much as riding. Adds to the sense of freedom and independence. Everything up to and including valve adjustment is totally doable. Aside from tire mount and balance, haven't needed a shop in 14000 miles of ownership.

  • @ThisLifeRiding

    Short answer, yes. Rain is one of the reasons I have the touring windshield though. It keeps me fairly dry for the most part. Other then monsoon season, rain is pretty rare here anyway. It is not something that concerns me very often.

    For about $100 a person can buy a decent set of water-proof riding jacket & pants that slips over your everyday riding gear and keeps you nice & dry. I ride in Oregon, two wheels only, regardless of the weather. I actually love wet weather riding. :-)

    I have a Tour Master "Defender" rain suit, which is a waterproof jacket & pants. I'm 5'11" tall, 170-lbs, and for normal riding jackets I wear size 52 (I have long arms & torso, otherwise it would be size 50), and the Tour Master rain suit I bought is size XXL, which allows it to fit over my leather jacket & pants. If you live in a really rainy place, you will also want to consider some waterproof foot covers to keep your feet from getting wet & cold. I have waterproof riding boots, so it's not as much of an issue, but waterproof boot covers would still be a nice option for long rides in heavy rain.

    Your commentary is quite annoying. You do realize when you walk into the Kawasaki dealer they're cracking their knuckles. There's no reason in the world to be spending 200 and $700 on maintenance Cycles. BTW the fact that you've had for chains fail is a clear indication they've never put a drop of oil on your chain for you. The fact that you paid $800 for a stator job you need to get your head examined bud. BTW they're making a ton of f****** money on you.

Headstock bearings failing at under 30,000 miles is a major issue. You should get 20,000 miles out of a chain. This is comically inept stuff.
