Nikon D800 Review - Secondhand Advice

Here I review the Nikon d800 as a second hand camera amzn.to/1K9kcJh and its awesomeness as a professional camera that is fantastic for serious a amateur /enthusiast photographers. The lens i have on the camera during this review is this amzn.to/1EGSBuk

I use Swissborg to buy the majority of my BTC and ETH as it also has a yield wallet function that can give you up to 10% yield on BTC and 17% on ETH much better than leaving money in the bank. If you are worried about crypto crashing, then just convert the money into USDc which is pegged to the US dollar, and Swissborg has been able to give up to 32% interest on that (the interest rate changes daily)

Coinbase is a great place to get started and learn about the different tokens and coins and there are learning resources where you can earn Crypto just for watching an educational video on different coins. In total I have made around £35 free just watching the videos.

and a code for joining crypto.com exchange platform crypto.com/exch/b2dn7tg7u4
This is a new platform I am getting used to, it seems to have a few glitches on my iPad but works better on my android phone, it also has a lot of yield possibilities for different cryptos, but if you are worried about any currency falling, just invest in True GDP or True USD and get up to 10% interest by staking for 3 months, which at the end you get your money back and the interest.
All far better ways of having your money earn you more money than leaving it in a savings account in a bank.
if you have any questions about it, feel free to drop me a message or reply to this comment, happy to help.

Dude been watching your vids since I started photography at 2007. You're the most practical photographer (that is worth watching) I've ever seen on youtube. You kinda helped me in my mindset towards photography. Being a practical bloke helps me through rough times and made me even wiser in choosing the gears I need to use for professional work. With the technological advancement companies shove into cameras these days be it DSLR or mirrorless, there's no such thing as crappy gears, only crappy photographers. Cheers mate!

I got a couple of D800E bodies from Japan this year (2023) with less than 15K shots total combined on both bodies. It's FANTASTIC. I love it. I've been using mostly primes, i.e. Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART DG (full frame) and am going to experiment with a 30mm Sigma 1.4 ART (DX)... so I can run & gun for portraits at weddings with what amounts to a 45mm at ~15MP images, vs the 35mm full-frame lens and 36MP images. Best part : I paid under $700 each for the bodies.

Looking at a 2nd hand D800 to step up to full frame and replace my crop sensor D5600. Not that I'm unhappy with it, just feel I'm ready to take my photography to the next level. With the D810 and D850 out, I can pick up a quality pre-owned body only for $950 - $1200 (USD). The D800 is still relevant and the price won't break me. The only drawback would be replacing all of my crop glass with full frame. I liked the fact that you gave all the pros AND cons of this camera. To me, none of them were a real deal breaker. I feel like I have a better understanding of what I am getting myself into when I eventually drop the hammer on this purchase. Highlight was the burp (16:35). Glad you didn't edit that out. Cheers mate !

What a wonderful review! I got a D800E last year and its easily the best camera I've ever had. And, silly as it sounds, it really feels like a camera in your hand too. The only downside is that most of those old Nikkor beauties will not cut it on this camera, well I mean they will, but to get the best of this camera, you're going to have to really research what lenses will get the best out of it. As a guide, you will need to be looking at the G series lenses/Zeiss/Nokton and one or two Tokinas.

hi Dom, thanks for the upfront reviews and thoughts. A question; i am (not in a hurry) planning on stepping up from d610 to ; yes, perhaps a used d800, or should i wait till the d810 comes available used at a more affordable price? Secondly; i own a 24-70 2.8 would it be a problem not having the vr (coming out this year rumors say) on the d800 of d810? very happy now with the 14-24 24-70 2.8 an 70-200 f4 on the d610btw. cheers from Amsterdam the Netherlands

I still use the D800 in 2021. I've shot stills all day at events without running down the battery. This is provided you don't use the rear screen a lot. The screen runs down the battery fairly quickly. As of this month (Oct.'21) noise isn't a problem even up to ISO 6400 with Topaz Lab's Noise AI and Sharpen AI. And, their Gigapixel AI can make 6x enlargements with no loss of quality. The full size Raw file is 16.3 x 24" straight out of the camera. Sop, 40 x 48" prints are not a problem. The D800 does very well for landscapes, cityscapes, poraits, weddings and photojournalism. Today, the D800 sells used in excellent condition for $1,000 - $1,300. I may buy buy another body.

michael hinckley everybody on the internet blabs on about raw, I'm a professional photographer and i never use raw (or unless I'm doing a shoot with very strong light and shadows, which is once a year) shoot properly you don't need raw! when people shot film WHAT DID THEY DO? I was talking to a well known photographer whom mainly works for national geographic and he was telling me how he only shoots jpeg too. people, turn off the internet, actually use your camera and draw your OWN conclusions.

I've just bought one for a little under £800 with around 30,000 shutter count. This is my second one as I had to return the first one due to focusing issues. This "new" one also has some focusing issues, although not as bad as the first copy. I've had to do some fine tuning on my lenses, which is something I've not had to do before, and my Nikon 24-70 is maxed out at -20. Weird as all my lenses work without any fine tuning on my D750. If it wasn't for the fact that the D800 is producing some of the best skin tones I've ever got from any camera/lens combo, I probably would have sent it back and gone for something else. It also balances so nicely on my 70-200 VR1. I just need to spend some time dialing in the fine tune settings for my small collection of lenses.

I have rented the D810, and That is the one I really wanted. However, The difference is probably hardly noticeable, and not worth an extra 2 grand. I need the spare cash to get a good lens for it. Nikon made a statement when they brought this camera out and it is still holding its own in 2023. Like the F3 it moved the goalposts.I have settled with the 24-70 F2.8 silent wave which covers a lot of situations. It was as if Nikon waited till they could stun the opposition and make a camera that kept up with the inevitable minor advances. The F3 was made for nearly 20 years and whilst digital is much more about electonic advances I think 15 years would be a reasonable time span before it is classed as out of date.

I'm amateur. I went from the D700 to D800 -both second hand. My reasoning was: I do not print large. If anything, I downsize my images. The image quality of the D800 files downsized to 12mp was clearly better (DR, noise, detail, colors at every iso). I almost never shoot as a machine gun. I've a high end PC. Only negative is that the left focus issue is real. I cannot see how any other DSLR would improve the results I get from the D800 but I can understand if somebody is ok with D600-D750 or prefer other cameras.

Good Morning Sir, with all Respect. My name is Rajan & I am from India, I am 85% Physically Challenged (Orthopedically- Slow to move around) but I love photography. Sir I have being watching your videos and studying about basic of cameras. As I am so love with photography & a beginner I thought to get a bank loan and buy Canon 5d mark III with a kit lens. But after watching your video I thought to go for Nikon D800. My budget is 3000 US $. Current price of canon Nikon D800 DSLR Camera (Body only) is 2400 US $. Again in my budget I have 600 US $. So what Lens should I buy First also battery grip, tripod and flash light in my small budget. I travel in scooter and take pictures in mobile and my Canon point and shoot camera. Sir please help me out to choose a best lens that I need to buy, also the lenses which i should buy later so I can save money and buy. I like to take Portraits, sceneries, macro photos and far photo(because I won’t be able to move like others to the subject closer if it is moving). Please suggest me a good advise what I should and not to do. With my disability I am confused to take which lens please do suggest me Sir, a good advice. Thank you for the wonderful work, may God bless you sir.. Waiting for a reply..

+Rajan Narayanan Love My D800. had it for 3 years and it has made me learn so much.| i say get one, you will love it. look into renting one first. also you probably don't need the battery grip at first, i can get over 1000 shots shooting in RAW on one battery. spend your money on good SD and CF cards.

No. When this came out boasting 36.3MP, Hasselblad already had their H6D-100C with100 MP camera... well at cost ($32,995). So... 800 is a lovely camera but at its level.

i much as i like the camera im gonna have to sell it. many of y shot are blurry when zoomed at 100 percent. It's hit or miss with this camera, and that take the fun out of taking pictures. I just moved up to full frame and purchased it second hand and now i'm regretting it. Even auto focusing in video mode on this camera is slow. i wish Nikon has a firmware upgrade that address focusing issues in picture mode and video.

My D750's light meter is at best amateur easily fooled and is badly affected by back-light. The D800 is much better at those tricky situations. Buying another D800 rather than another D750.

I bought the d800 new. With several good Nikon prime lens. But I hate it!!! Because it is so very heavy! The camera with a 105 macro, yeah, slumping shoulders--- by noon. It is NOT a walking around camera. Studio--fine. If you want to imatate Ansell Adams and have the mule, great. But if you are going to climb and carry---yeah, well--- good luck with that. AND it is big! I have large hands. Size XL gloves. And I find this camera uncomfortably large to hold and manipulate. My hasselblads, my d90 all seem appropriately sized. But this is just a bit too big. Like throwing a football and then switching to a rugby ball and trying to throw it in the same way. The latter is enough larger to throw off the whole process. Same with this camera. It just doesn't fit into your hand, or hands. It takes near medium format pics and is near medium format sized, as well. And the shutter sound is muffled but funky! It just sounds odd and I've never gotten used to it. Certainly don't enjoy the sound. Or is that being too picky? I rather like the sound of my 500 hasselblad. Sounds like a 'proper' camera. The d800, not at all. And there is about a 50 year difference in their respective ages. The one has a nice, crisp snap sound while the other has a flopping kind of sound-- with a bounce sound, too. One sounds strong and the other sounds rather weak. I seldom use the 800. Or any other camera these days. The camera I use the most??? Now??? My samsung camera. It also allows me to make phone calls! And to watch tv on it. And the shutter is completely silent! Is very light weight, and it slips into my jeans pocket and is totally water proof! (It went through 2 complete wash/rinse/spin cycles with some cloths. Worked great without issues after that 'deep cleaning'! I'm so very sure my nikon's would not do as well.) Just my 2 cents worth. Other than cameras for fine art pics, the future for cameras is most likely the phone! And that future arrived at least 10 years ago. The camera companies just haven't caught up with that idea yet! Or accepted it. But the days of dslr and mirrorless cameras is very, very short. All except for a goPro type unit. Not sure I want to loose my $1200 phone while skiing a hill. It is, after all, impossible to find things in snow.
