High Glenn!!! I will not either. I HAVE a Sony A7iii that I bought just for fun and this past weekend I used my friend James' Z6. I will be a die-hard NIKON DSLR fan to the end. I think i even mention it in the new video I have coming out tonight. I LOVE everything about it except.... I wish it had a larger sensor like the D850. It is such an amazing little camera and I have been using that lately over all my other Nikon cameras. And, for video, it is again amazing. I use it for all my music videos as well. Ray, we are exactly on the same wavelength! It is AMAZING and even for video! I will not say I will not go to Nikon Z series, but I have all these amazing F lenses......! My favorite lens for a long time what the Nikon 24-85 G lens, but lately I have been using my Tamron 24-70 2.8 and really enjoying that all over again. Until I got this, my favorite was my D800 even over the D850..... until this. OK, I will stop going on about. It is my favorite camera hands down!! Thank you Ray! 😁

Hi Jurry De Vries! Well, you have a fantastic camera right now. The D500, a camera MANY birders still use is a crop sensor camera like you have but with a faster shutter speed and easier control of the aperture and shutter speed like you would have with a full frame Nikon. The advantages you have with the crop sensor is that if you have shooting with a full frame lens you can multiply your reach by 1.5 - a Tamron 150-600 at 600 is an effective reach of 900mm. As far as the Z series, other than the EVF, I am personally a fan of the DSLR and IF the D880 ever does come out I will get that. There are so many amazing older lenses that are available for the F mount Nikon - I love older lenses that would be out of my price range new and especially for the Z cameras. The choice is really up to you and your budget. I am a gear junkie, but remember that the best camera is the one you have. The artwork is yours and it is your eye that makes a great photo. You have a great camera. 😁💖

@@JonnyPink65 Cash aint a real issue (sold my company just 6 months before COVID struck so was lucky. My headache is: upgrade to Z6 II or Z7 II or D780? Plus my wife wants a camera as well mainly for family photos and street photography (she’s pretty darn good at spotting people and locations, is great at composition, doesnt want to fuzz with settings). So here is what my current (but far from final still) camera strategy is: Keep the D7500: crop gives extra reach and I like shooting with OVF plus if I sell it you get pennies only Buy Z50 + those 2 DX lenses: ideal for my wife and street photography, great for travel city trips Buy the Z7 II: full frame and high resolution (allowing for more crop basically compensates the APS-C sensor because if you shoot DX format with the Z7 II the 45 mega pixel is reduced to approx 20 Sounds all reasonable but here is the downside: the original reason for upgrading the D7500 was that the autofocus in the D7500 has 51 points and AF-C in tracking or group mode only works if light is strong + the object follwos smooth flightpath. A huge heron flying by smoothly and descending to land during the afternoon with abundant light, is no problem for the D7500 autofocus system. Try to follow a small bird with cloudy skies or close to sunset and the D7500 is lost in space. That was the reason I started to consider an upgrade. The Z50 is a given and easy choice. But D780 or Z6 II or Z7 II is an ongoing battle yet to be resolved. Any input is welcome Ps where do I post some photo’s or can I mail them?

Hi .S Slc - my reply got lost..... I use my D780 all the time with my Tamron 150-600 G2 lens and my Nikon 500 F4 for birding. Here are a couple of recent ones - kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4t-qaNmhs2ynZs.html & kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGR617iNY7yriLg.html I don't usually use the grip except on the D850. If you are using the controls on the grip for portraits, you could get used to using the regular shutter. I would guess you could use it tethered through the USB-C port. The only ones I have used tethered is the D850 and D800 and would still reach for the D800 for portraits even now. And of your old FX Nikon batteries will fit and work in there. I usually have at least one additional with me but have not needed it when out. For video, it is amazing and I have used that plugged in via the USB-C port. It is an amazing little camera with less feature than the D850 but better high ISO performance. I use it for birding with the long lenses about 80% of the time. I hope this helps!! 😁

I thought I had replied so my apologies. The 780 does pretty much everything the 850 does that I want it for PLUS the amazing auto-focus. I have always preferred Sony video cameras..... until the 780. They both have two cards so that is not an issue. The smaller files of the 780 are easier to work with when working with 100s or 1000s. I have not seen that much of a difference when cropping in like I had with the 750. I LOVE the color profile with the RAW photos on the 780, find the 750 bright (I like that for certain things like wildlife), and have found that I like the 850 best for astrophotgraphy. That could all change though. I will get to a video on the amazing auto-focus on this camera - something I NEVER would have said of a Nikon for video before. Both are amazing cameras so the better choice is what is in your budget. That is the best answer I can give you. Here is my most recent 780 video. I do love that camera and I was shooting both the 780 and 850 this day - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZZp92cOSfsuwc5s.html 😁🙏

The cards filled up but I still had battery left. Overall, I LOVE this camera even over my D850. I have also used it for most of my music videos, usually manual focus and on auto everything else... except a couple of times where I used my light meter to set the shutter speed, aperture and ISO I wanted, then let the auto focus do its thing. Until this camera, and as a Nikon shooter, I would have said get a Sony for video..... until this camera. And the cool thing is that all my F mount glass works perfectly. What would your advice be, in 2024, to someone who has (10) Nikon good ('Good' == F2.8 or faster F-mount, some are "G") lenses and uses m4/3, now, as my main cameras for Weddings, -- should I get a D780? (I just got a used, low shutter count D850)! The only other 'Nikon" bodies I have are D70, Fuji S2, S3, and S5 -- all are ~6MP! Further, I was looking at eBay, then started thinking, called Nikon to confirm that they would NOT repair any gray-market camera -- the one auction ending about now had a small crack in the top info panel. Worthwhile to get a new D780 for ~$1500-1600 in 2024? Primary use == Weddings, flowers.

You know, I put this out when the D780 came out and it pretty awesome at that time. My honest opinion is that the newest tech simply is superior. At this point, I am personally all Canon mirrorless other than me old D800 - Nikon just could not keep up with the tech competition so I switched when the R5 came out. The new AF and eye tracking is off the charts amazing. The only Nikon cameras that have it right now are the Z8 and Z9. All of Canon, Sony and Panasonic have bodies that have all this built in at a WAY lower price. Some of my new stuff, I was reviewing a Canon R50 and a 100-400 (giving you 640mm) and I was impressed. That set up will surpass the old Nikons and the D780 all for about $1200. Just my opinion. Sony has the A6700 and the 200-600 but that runs at about $3500 and the 200-600 is a little older of a lens now. The choice is up to you, but for me...... unless it is for fun, I would not personally go back to a DSLR - AND - I have stopped buying used unless it is from B&H so I can return it if I am not happy with it. They also wont take anything if it is not perfect so you are covered there as well. I hope this helps. 🙏💖🤗

@@JonnyPink65 Thank you for your reply! Buying Used: I've been going over a lot of the specs on used gear from eBay -- including used D780's. Then I went over to B&H -- where I was shocked by the LACK of information on the used D780 they had! Country of origin? Shutter count? What of the original accessories do I get? Detailed photos? None of this information was supplied by B&H for a used D780! I'm afraid I cannot fully appreciate the camera/lens comparisons you made, as I do not do "Birding" or Sports; I do Weddings. I was fairly happy with some eBay auctions on the D780, then, just this morning, I had a thought and called Nikon USA. Nope, they would not repair any Nikon camera not purchased in the USA. One I looked at had a small crack on the top glass -- a simple repair, but Nikon would not do it. Wow, that REALLY changed my mind; and I readjusted the units for sale. It turns out, I can get a NEW D780 for ~$1596.95, from B&H, while used units, meeting my 'qualifications' were going for about $1250. I will be using my Olympus/OM System OM-1's as my main system, and the Nikon D850 for really large prints, and the D780 for really low light work -- and the Nikons as a backup system in general. I smile when I read about full-frame mirrorless systems' upgrades and enhancements -- as my OM-1's already do all of that and more. To sell my Nikon F lenses and buy new Z lenses is just not financially feasible for me.

For me a great photo is a couple of things - color (Sony is crap and I will NEVER pick up another one of those even if I am sponsored). clarity even at a high ISO ( the D780 was great but I have found Canon blows Nikon out of the water as far as that goes), and how a photo looks poster size, not just on a phone or Instagram.
