Walden was a work by Henry David Thoreau that he used to describe his simple life there as a way to explore connections. It has come to mean a lot of things but a general refuge to simplicity. The not evading the world, but building my own expressed the need to remain connected to that simpler space and so within the world we live creating our own refuge. The pipes and folksy aspect of the song reinforced that.

Troy is singing in Welch at the beginning. Yes, it is a folk sounding song. In addition to the Uilleann pipes , Troy is also playing an Irish Low Whistle. He is from Cumbria in the UK. I Imagine playing Wembley arena in London would be a big deal for any Brit. Inspired by the Henry David Thoreau book ,Walden, which was written while staying at Walden Pond. Song is from the 2015 album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful. First album recorded with Floor, and Kai on drums. First song you have done that was written with Floor as lead. A heavier song on this album is Weak Fantasy, it was played at Tampere 2015, and here at Wembley 2015.

"Walden” was a book by Henry Thoreau about living a simple life in natural surroundings. For just over two years he lived in a cabin in the woods near Walden Ponds. A walden is a secluded safe haven, where your soul can come to a rest. The German term "Wald" (also used in family names, e.g. "The GrisWolds") is equivalent to "The Woods". While forest is "Forst" in German, naming a cultivated form of the "Wald", a Walden has more of a primeval forest. Welsh/Gaelick Intro: “Sain y niwl, Gaunt y goydwig fwsog, Gwenithfaen, cen y coed, a'r lleuad, Un gway f'adenydd i tapestri bywyd” "’Sain y niwl’ is “Sound of the mist”. ‘Gaunt y goydwig fwsog’ means “wind (or smell) of the mossy forest'. ‘Gwenithfaen, cen y coed, ar lleuad’ is ‘Granite under trees and moon’. ‘Un gway f'adenydd i tapestri bywyd’ is something like ‘weave my wings to life's tapestry’." (Found this online, not sure how accurate this is)

Quite a few Celtic folk-rock songs in Nightwish now that they have Troy, who was a member of Celtic folk-rock bands in the past and brought the appropriate instruments to tha band. Tuomas' of course, couldn't ignore the challenge. The song is about building your own world - forming it to suit you, if you will. Troy is from Workington in England. I don't know what you know about this but Wembley is the premium football venue in the UK. Wembley Stadium is where the FA Cup Final is generally played so every football-mad schoolboy dreams of playing at Wembley. The Wembley Arena was built much more recently as a concert venue and holds about 12,500 if memory serves. Hence the reference. (Marco refers back to this shortly afterwards in this concert in the intro to While Your Lips are Still Red which is a Marco-fronted song. This is probably my second favourite of the Nightwish concerts after Buenos Aires 2018. Note that Sleeping Sun is still on the setlist so looking forward to seeing what you think (though I believe I can predict!). Best version for me is masters of Rock in Czechia in 2015.

You never know what to expect, do you? LOL. They actually have quite a few songs with this folk/Celtic sound.

I love those Celtic sounds melting with metal. Melodic, a bit moody, playful rythm, lovely sweet harmony of the voices. Food for the heart.

Those are British sounds, not Celtic. There is really no such thing as a "Celtic" sound, though the term is often used for British folk. No actual Celtic music has survived into the present and the Celtic culture has been gone for centuries. Britain was one of the last places where Celtic culture existed (it used to be all across Europe from Britain to what is now Turkey), but it is long gone now. Celt was of course a multi-racial mutually existing culture, not a race in itself.

@@TheRealRedAce really? With the sounds of Uilleann pipes? Troy seems to have had a "Celtic" Rock band (You Slosh) and worked with the "Celtic" Folk band Iona and also with Máire Brennan (Clannad). Irish Folk music is often called Celtic Folk music, also by the musicians themselves. So here's where I got confused. Thanks for clearing it up.

@@Cherlindrea99 I really don't know why some people started calling it "Celtic" music. It has nothing to do with Celt culture. But once these things start, there's no stopping them. A lot of people do call it "Celtic", but its basically the British folk sound, common to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with some local variations. Uilleann pipes of course are from Ireland, though bagpipes in general seem to have introduced to Britain by the Romans.

@@Cherlindrea99 Well of course its British! "Britain" is not a nation, its a group of islands, including Ireland/Eire among many others and has been since it was named by the ancient Greeks long before either The UK or the Irish Republic ever existed. It currently contains two nations, The United Kingdom and The Irish Republic. The latter became independent from the UK in the 1920s but is still in the British isles. National boundary changes don't. change physical locations! Ireland can no more opt out of being in The British Isles than Canada can out of North America or Japan out of Asia. The UK for example, may no longer be in the EU, but its still in the European Continent! Incidentally, my grandfather came from Cork and one of my other grand parents from the Irish quarter of Glasgow, so I'm part Irish part Scots, part English descent myself.

Several NW songs have a folky sound. Another would be "The Islander", sung by Marko. My Walden is based on a book: "Walden: or, Life In The Woods" by US author Henry David Thoreau about the couple of years he spent living simply in woodland owned by his mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson in Massachusetts.

The song is Artificial Times: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYmpj8uqksqdY6w.html The song is part of the first studio album "Chronos" recorded by a metal band and a professional orchestra/choir. Hope you like them. Thx!
