Fun fact: Tuomas (keyboards) composes about 90% of the songs and also composes and works with real Orchestras and choirs to create the symphonic back tracks you hear in most of their songs. It's not synthesized but real instruments recorded since they could not go on tour with them. NW is always an Epic, Cinematic Event and a huge enjoyment watching with others who enjoy this energy!

It was not just duo, but trio! You could clearly hear Troy in the mix. And the backing tracks are recorded with London Symphony Orchestra, so they have all kinds of instruments indeed.

The Islander live at Tampere is a Marco solo

Marko has done a lot outside Nightwish, but you can hear Marko doing the the vocals alone with Nightwish too: "High Hopes" Helsinki 2005, a tribute to Pink Floyd, Nightwish makes the song heavier than the original PF version. Marko(rock voice), is amazing on vocals, so is the band as a whole. "The Islander" is another one with Marko (mellow, clean, beautiful voice, more power towards the end of the song) entertaining the crowd of 24 000 people in Tampere 2015 practically on his own, the man and his bouble neck guitar, this time he is using the guitar part only. Rest of the band joining him towards the end of the song. Totally different from any other Nightwish song, with folky Celtic vibes, brought by Troy, the multi-instrumentalist from the UK. Composition by Marko himself, lyrics by Tuomas, the keyboardist, the mastermind behind Nightwish. The song wasn't a good fit for Markos own band, so Tuomas thought it could be a Nightwish song. Hi, Mad... sounds weird. lol Marko Hiatela does have his own band and the only other band that can actually compare with Nightwish is Epica whose singer, Simone Simons, is very close friends with Floor and actually perform in an Epica concert together. I do listen to what you have to say, you mentioned something about childbirth in your comments, keep in mind Simone was three months pregnant when she did this retrospective concert( she has been with Epica since she was 17). @@dennislindqvist8443 Yanno (me a 54 yr old),being a fan of Queen and Nightwish, one thing is clear, both bands were/are way ahead of their time. I've seen both bands live, and like you stated; both bands are immaculate when it comes to live performances. I was lucky enough to be at the famous 1985 "Live Aid" concert at Wembley stadium, where Queen literally stole the show, aswell as the 2013 Wacken Open Air concert where the star of Nightwish was shining brightly. I will never forget! I look at it like this; "What Freddie was for Queen, Floor is for Nightwish. And anyone can say what they want, Floor and Freddie are THE best vocalists in the world to me. Imagine these two collaberating...that would be heaven!

I've tried getting into them before, back when Tarja was the lead singer, but it just wasn't my cup of tea, sadly (though I still think she is super talented and seems so sweet and I have so much respect for her). Great format for watching. The overlapping screens work well. Floor at 6'-1" plus heels, very commanding. The crowd loves her. There is also a third vocalist, Troy and he also plays the flutes, mandolin and other instruments.

I just adore this song - I think the reason they sometimes pair it with Empty Hope on a setlist is just for the rollercoaster effect - beauty of life, then the messiness of jerks. Great reaction as always!

Emppu, the guitar player is so good wit quitar that he has time do pranks,in Wacken 2013i Emppu,, sneaks bhiind Floor and unplugs or turns down her eardips. IMHO, Nightwish pretty much defines Symphonic Metal. With Floor at the front at what was already a phenomenal band, they really are in a class by themselves. But, since you asked for other bands that are in this vein, here are some that I enjoy: Within Temptation Delain Leaves Eyes Edenbridge

At the time, their lead singer Floor had only been in the band for a few months and many of the audience were fans of the band but did not know their new lead singer. "Shudder Before The Beautiful" was the first song they heard and they were sold from the first number. It's hot under the focusing golden eye of Ra and lot of going on between noise cancelling ear plugs when processing beautiful data. I have seen that wooden figure head in front of keyboard set many times but never saw that upside down tree roots but interesting view.

Marco has an Excellent voice.. If they need some rasp, he gives it to them.. If they need some heavy harsh vocals, he does that as well. But, he can also sing clean harmonies with Floor also. He does Nightwish songs that feature his more than Floor.. I you want something heavy he sings, They do a Tribute cover of the Pink Floyd song call "High Hopes" it excellent and it only has a Male vocal so he sings it.. There is also a heavy song he sings in called Master, Passion Greed.. Nightwish did this in the gap after Tarja and before Floor...

Several songs with Marko have been suggested, but I could not find this one. It is from his "own" project outside of Nightwish. The Finns will surely recommend the Finnish version, and though I do not understand any Finnish except from what every Swedish kid learns it has more feelings in the song, but the text is important so start with the English version.
